  1. Yeah, you'll be fine here. And under the heading of It's a real small world, I also heard my first Klipsch speakers at The House of Sound in Springfield, Mo. Actually helped my brother in law pick up his Cornwalls from the HOS in 1977.
  2. GRB

    Grammys!

Watched most of the awards. Two amazing performances: Alicia Keys-she absolutely blows those pipes of hers, Melissa Etheridge-her Janis Joplin tribute brought down the house. The J-Lo / Marc Anthony pseudo-opera was perhaps the most lame performance of the evening.
  3. By the way Allan, nice Lark. Had a buddy in high school whose grandmother owned one. We used to rod the crap out of that thing. Had more electrical problems that a Jaguar. Headlights just took a dump on us one night and we got stopped twice on the way home. Thought we were gooing to get killed.
  4. While in Phoenix on business trip a couple of years ago, my company took several of us to the Barrett Jackson auction. I must have seen 25 musclecars I would have killed for. It was an amazing event. By the way Allan, a 1969 Hemi Super Bee with matching numbers, right miles, right condition etc., could easily bring $75k to $100k today. Baby Boomers with disposable income are driving these types of cars through the roof.
  5. Frye, First; congrats, you obviously "Get It". Second, and at the risk of sounding like a sexist pig, I have met very, very few women who do. My experience has been most women perceive music as a background to a party, club scene, something to pass time in the car, etc. and do not think much else about it. Call it like nirvana, dream state, whatever, I just don't know if I have met many females who have experienced this. Maybe we are just wired differently. Anyway, glad you "get it". Enjoy.
  6. One word (two syllables) for you: E-Bay.
  7. Steve, Congrats. You are gonna love it! Here in MD you will get several HD broadcast stations. Wait till you get to see Monday Night Football, Superbowl, U.S. Open, etc, etc, etc in HD. You will get spoiled quick. Enjoy.
  8. How's about Stevie Ray Vaughn: Riviera Paradise...He was a guitar god and this track is proof of that. A guy that can make a guitar scream the blues and then play this jazzy / moody / bluesy piece. He may have been (IMHO) wihtout peer.
  9. Got my 59avi about two months ago. Replaced an Elite DV-05 with it. Paid $895 and it is worth every cent. Much improved picture and incredible improvement in sound. Much bigger soundstage. Better DVD-A than SACD but no complaints.
  10. Yeah, "Sketches" is interesting. I had to listen a couple of times before I started getting it. There is, maybe not the right word, but tension comes to my mind. Some tracks are haunting. Very nice.
  11. Hey Gary, not to hijack the thread, but just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation on the Kenny Burrell John Coltrane SACD. Got it just before Christmas. Great album. Must have listened to it a dozen times already. Santa also brought me a couple of other SACD's; Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain and Blue Train. They sound great on the new SACD player. All in all a great Christmas.
  12. Gary, LMAO. Good point, the vibration issues with vinyl are hell in the car.
  13. Holy s**t, I just bought two Miles Davis and two Thelonious Monk SACD's for $40 total with shipping. Great tip. Thanks.
  14. Dean, Now that's what I call Christmas spirit! Very admirable.
  15. Griff, I too have had monster cables woes. All I used when I first started upgrading equipment. I have had monster cable connectors bend and break with little pressure. I even had a monster cable that was causing a scratching / hissing noise. They are so far from quaility it is amazing. What this boils down to is that monster has developed a very good marketing strategy with great packaging. I would also assume they have cut deals with BB, CC, Tweeter, etc. to sell them cable at HUGE volume discounts. Thus increasing their sales, allowing for more marketing, deeper discounts to the mega retailers and so on and so on. As a result, the mega retailer has even more incentive to sell them because of the margins. Can't even remember what I have in the snake pit now, but it is all mid-priced cable that came from an independent retailer. No MONSTER.
  16. Thanks for the input and recommendations Allan. I had a feeling you might weigh in on this one. I bought the "Blue Trane" SACD a month or so ago and my wife asked me the other night if you could wear out the grooves on a CD like vinyl! I LMAO. Needless to say, I am enjoying it. Appreciate the comments.
  17. LOL..My pleasure, glad to help. Would love to hear it on your K-horns. Happy holidays.
  18. You're kidding. Did you actually have this playing when I asked the question, or did you decide to listen to it when you started thinking about it?
  19. Thanks Gary-you sold me I just ordered it.
  20. I was browsing an online SACD seller and ran across an SACD of John Coltrane and Kenny Burrell. Just wondering if anyone on the forum has heard the album and what their review of it would be. I am by no means a jazz expert, but I do like Coltrane and Burrell and have never seen this album before. Just curious as to anyone else's thoughts on it. Thanks.
  21. Hey Rudy, is Brent a forum member or do you have a way to contact him? I am thinking about a new controller also and am considering Halo. Thanks.
  22. Might be the funniest thing I have seen on e-bay. I bet the shipping would be cheap too. Would love to have seen the look on his face when he got the e-mail.
  23. Beautiful speakers. What is the deal with this nomadinca guy? By the way gilbert, where are you located? I am originally from that part of the country.
