  1. Kevin - where are you located? I live in the Middle East, but will be in Southern Cal this summer for vacation (Santa Clarita, if you know where that is). How far are you from there?
  2. "The system is astonishing! Ours has about 5 hours on it now and it keeps getting better. " Anyone else wondering why someone has this system and only has 5 hours on it? I would have put 25 hours on it the first day

    Top 3

DVD's: We were Soldiers Braveheart Lord of the Rings (both, and I'll bet money on the 3rd as well). Music: Toy Matinee Yes - Fragile (ok it's old, but man it's good) Mark Knofler - Sailing to Philadelphia (HDCD with great guest - Van Morrison, James Tayler...).
  4. Great - I hope that's the end of that problem. Let us know how you like it after you have everything dialed in a play with it for a while. Good luck!
  5. I only have a few DVD-A's and they play through my digital connections, but don't sound as good as playing through the multi-input analog cables. I think you get the play back, but none of the enhanced sound by using a "regular" DVD player. Also brings up the SACD issue - some play on regular CD players (Hybrid) some only on SACD players. Some are multi-channel, others are stereo. In any case, there's not enough available in either format yet and that's too bad, they do sound nice!
  6. New Rotel RMB-1095 Amp for $1,350 and RSP-1066 processor for $850 (including tax) from an authorized dealer who quit carrying Rotel.
  7. Too many good people with a vast wealth of knowledge. I've only checked out a few other audio/HT forums and don't spend much time there. Everyone once in a while I'll post the same question on a couple sites to see what comes back. Without exception, the help I get here is superior.
  8. "Rotel 1095... nice and solid with films, but not as musical as I'd like with 2-channel listening. Hoping I can hook up with a Bryston 9BST, or better yet, one of the new Anthem Statement P5's (yes, I know it would be overkill with Klipsch speakers, but it's still a lovely piece of work...)" Agree - the Bryston is very nice, but what don't you like about the 1095 for music? I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I like mine for music. Just curious - and of course, I needed the extra post.
  9. What sub do you have? Doesn't matter much, just want to make sure you have a sub (if not, I don't think you have any choice but large). Bill - I'm with you. I have the RF-7's set to small and the cross over at 80hzt (still playing with 60 hzt, not sure yet). It's not that the mains can't handle the bass, but the sub will do it more effectively and take stress off the mains. "Small" is a poor term as it leaves the wrong impression. It's as much about overall bass management as it is speaker ability. One issue you may have using Bose cubes is cross-over settings. With your mains, you may want to use a cross over of 100hzt. That's too low for your cubes. Not sure if you can set the cross-overs different for each set of speakers? If not, go with your mains - the surrounds don't get as much action anyway.
  10. Carl - you nailed it. I couldn't believe the increased bass from the RF-7's when I went to separates from an integrated amp. I love the sub for movies, but I often change the RF-7s back to large and turn off the sub for music.
  11. 100 watts into 8 ohms? If so, you're fine. If it says 100 watts into 4 ohms, you may be a little light on power.
  12. On your original list, you have the Yamaha DSP-A1. That's not a receiver but an integrated amp (no tuner). That was a really nice unit - it was their flagship model - but it's several years old and missing many of "todays" features (SACD, DVD-A, 6.1 or 7.1...). I had one for a few years and just upgraded. I was very happy with it, but if you go that direction you should deal hunt as it's not the most currect technology.
  13. ez - I compared Rotel to B&K. They have a little different sound, but both provide nice, smooth sound - not at all harsh. Both are quiet as well and good matches with the sensitive Klipsch speakers. B&K's are well thought of on this board and I understand why. For me, I rated it even with the Rotel equipment and got a better deal from the Rotel dealer. Since hooking everything up, I've been extremely happy and haven't looked back - Good luck.
  14. My processor re-set to the factory settings last night (babysitter playing around too much). Anyway, my wife was trying to play a DVD and got the picture fine (DVD player is connected directly to the TV), but no sound as the default was Co-axel and I have Optical connections. Anyway, my wife starts playing with things and get's sound when selecting the multi-inputs. I have these RCA cables hooked up for SACD and DVD-A, never occured to me to use them for DVD's. Now the question - has anyone compared sound between the digital and Multi connections for DVDs? I believe the Multi connections by-pass the digital components of the processor. Anyway, I'll play around with it a little later, just wanted to see if anyone has done any comparisons on this. Thanks
  15. "There's just something a bit boomy and and weak about them that doesn't appeal to me; maybe it's the front firing drivers, or the small enclosure, or a range of characteristics. " The RSW's are rear firing with a forward passive radiator. Set-up must have been bad. I have the RSW-12 and it sounds great. I've had other subs that didn't hold up nearly as well. Like all subs, you have to move it around and play with the settings - all subs can sound like crap, only the good ones can sound good.
  16. How are these being marketed? Are they coming in "above" the Reference 7 series? I like the look of some of it - looks like matching speakers across the front, but the mains don't "look" as beefy as the RF-7's (maybe that's why there are 2 subs?).
  17. This is the first thread I've seen turn political. Guess I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'm an American working overseas - have been for years. Having seen how things are done in several foreign nations, I've come to value the "Made in America" tags and will pay more for it (in most cases). The average consumer, however, will not. The same people who ***** about US jobs going overseas are the same ones who will buy a product made in China over one made in the US because it costs 15% less. Can I blame them? Not really - there are few of us willing to pay extra. This problem isn't going away - 3rd World Nations don't value their time like Americans do. When someone is willing to work for a few dollars per day, the US really can't compete. Can't blame unions in the states either - while they do keep the labor costs up, few Americans would work for less anyway. There is a place for both US made and foreign provided products in the US. I don't want to pay a premium on everything - on many items the quality difference isn't important to me. Someone already said it above(mOOn maybe?). I don't want Klipsch to compete with mass produced speakers made in China. I'm willing to pay more, and I think people who buy Klipsch aren't "deal hunters", their looking for quality.
  18. No kidding - I saw this at the office and they heard me laughing all the way down the hall.
  19. The Pirates of the Caribbean reference is the first I've heard of a bad pressing (in DTS or DD). I've read DTS is less compressed and generally has better sound. I've compared in several movies and couldn't conclude that either was consistently better. Also a reference above that Dolby Digital could be Dolby Pro-logic. This shouldn't be the case, but I've found some of these myself (all older movies). I've assumed the boxes were mis-labeled, but that didn't make me any more happy about it.
  20. Hey guys - not mine and I have no idea about the seller, but just saw these 1961 Klipschorns on E-Bay. Not cheap (quite expensive actually), but look to be in nice shape and he posted a lot of photos. Just thought I'd let my fellow forum members know, in case anyone suddenly realized they haven't spent any money for a while. Here's the site: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=3092476807&rd=1
  21. I'd have to put in another vote for the RF-7's. They are just damn fine speakers. Can't add much more than what Bill already said. In the cost benefit review, you can always get less for less, but then you're getting.....well.....less.
  22. "the dipoles for surround is good if your room is not very large and if your room has no hard wall." Not so sure - I have a large room with concrete walls (Middle East construction). I've been extremely happy with the RS-7's for DVDs. I've only recently hooked up all the cables for SACD and DVD-A and only have 1 of each disc at this point. With very little exposure to that, I've been happy with that sound as well. I'm sure there are better options for specific cases, but I'm happy using the speakers where they are "suppose" to be and trust the Klipsch engineers knew a thing or two while designing these.
