  1. I've also noticed that their shipping performance has deteriorated a lot in the past few years. I don't use them as much as I used to. They pissed me off by not letting me cancel an order I placed at 2AM on a Saturday night, when I tried to cancel it about 10 seconds after placing it. They said it was too late to cancel because the item was "in the process of being shipped." It was still in the process of being shipped 2 days later, then it finally shipped 2 days after that, and I got it 3 days later. It was obviously a ploy to avoid an order being cancelled. .
  2. Anybody know what a cheap ticket at YS costs?
  3. I really can't hear much difference between low-end and expensive players. I would get what you can afford that has the features you want and is easy for you to operate.
  4. Have a good one, and many more. Tom
  5. Considering Marino did not have complete teams behind him like most of the other superstar QBs, I think he did an amazing job. Some of the Miami defenses he played with were horrible, yet he still found ways to win.
  6. Welcome to the forum, Alex. If you like Klipsch, high end audio, and nice people, you will like it here. It's good to have you with us.
  7. I ran across this deal on speaker stands for $30, which seems pretty good to me. If you have some bookshelf speakers and need stands.... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENCST
  8. Oscarsear, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. It's some of the most informative and interesting info about smoking that I have ever read.
  9. Let's see, over 4,000 in less than year. I hope you didn't get the posts in exchange for a divorce or unemployment.;-)
  10. I had a back problem about 20 years ago. It was intermittent and would come and go without warning. But when it came, I was basically immobilized as it felt as if someone had shoved a knife into my lower back. Eventually, the pain spells became longer in duration, so I went to see a chiropractor. After about 2 months of tri-weekly visits he sort of got the pain under control, but I would need to visit him at least once or twice a month for an adjustment. After a couple years of this routine I could see he wasn't curing anything, just masking the symptoms. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life dependent on a chiropractor, so I went to see a couple ortho-neuro docs. They wanted to slice up my lower back and fuse a couple of vertebrae together. They said that this operation "might fix the problem", and that there was about a 10% chance I could end up paralyzed from the waist down. I decided to pass. They offered me pain meds but I knew too many people who were hooked on them and what they could do to you so I never got any. Finally, I ran across a Dr. who actually knew what the hell he was doing. He did work for the Bears and had a lot of very good credentials, which included a distinctly "non-surgical" approach, which I found encouraging. I decided to see him, it took 3 months to get an appointment. The exam took about 5 or 10 minutes. He looked at my pictures, watched me walk back and forth, and felt a few bones. He deduced that a nerve in the spine was being pinched due to weak muscle support in the stomach area, and sent me to a physical rehab class where some guy showed me how to do some specific exercises. I did the exercises at home every morning and after about a month, the problem disappeared. Occasionally I will do the exercises to make sure that things are in good shape, but I have never looked back since then. It's all about finding someone who is competent. Anything to do with the spine is a black art and there are a lot of unscrupulous people making millions of dollars off unnecessary surgery, etc. And pain management with drugs is just a government sponsored junkie program that make the pharma companies bushels of cash every day.
  11. This site has a lot of good information about avoiding scams on ebay. Known scammers are named and their scams are described. http://www.scamsonebay.com/pages/content.php?content.38
  12. Some of those scams are really clever. That first one (a) seems like it would be hard to beat.
  13. I like the question. Will you ship to France? Funny. What about Nigeria?
  14. I don't think it's as one-sided as that. Some people may start out with used Klipsches because they could not afford brand new ones. In the process they become Klipsch fans and may later upgrade to new, better models.
  15. I just spoke with the owner of the record player, and she is moving next week and just wants it get rid of it. It's now FREE! Go for it.
  16. Hey Jay, how's everything? Did you tie one on on Fat Tuesday?
  17. Fine. Berwyn is a nice town. Good restaurants, 10 minutes from the Loop, affordable housing, the Houby Fest. What's not to like?
  18. Remember the guitar amp that was louder cause it went to 11?
  19. I ran across this item on a local BB. I know nothing about it, but I thought someone might have some interest. "Grundig Majestic Hi-Fi: Purchased from Polk Bros 1/14/1959 $ 619.95. It is a beautiful cabinet, radio still works, has a tape recording device and of course the record spin that plays 45's, 33's and 78's. Needs some wiring work. $100.00" http://www.berwyntalk.com/smf/index.php?topic=1944.0
  20. Kind of surprising, eh? "The United States and Britain ranked at the bottom of a United Nations survey released yesterday evaluating the well-being of children in wealthy countries. The Netherlands topped the report issued by UNICEF, followed by other European countries with strong social welfare systems - Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Among the report's overall findings was that wealth alone did not guarantee a child's well-being, with some poorer countries scoring ahead of richer ones. The United States and Britain finished 20th and 21st overall, respectively, behind Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary." http://www.newsday.com/news/health/...0,4276990.story
  21. This is pretty amazing. Einstein and all the other heavyweight physicists always thought the speed of light was constant. But this prof at Harvard has figured out how to slow it down to a stop, convert it into matter, convert it back into light, and then speed it back up to its normal velocity. This creates all sorts of possibilities: "A weird thing happens to the light as it enters the cold atomic cloud, called a Bose-Einstein condensate. It becomes squeezed into a space 50 million times smaller. Imagine a light beam 3,200 feet (one kilometer) long, loaded with information, that now is only a hair width in length but still encodes as much information. From there it becomes easier to imagine new types of computers and communications systems - smaller, faster, more reliable, and tamper-proof." http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2007/02.08/99-hau.html
  22. Some articles you might want to check out: Letting your car or truck warm up in the driveway on a frigid morning can get the cab or passenger compartment toasty, but it is otherwise a waste of fuel and the least efficient way to warm up an engine, a University of Missouri specialist said. You can do your engine a favor by heading straight out the driveway, as long as youre not in a hurry, said Bill Casady, MU agricultural engineer. Gasoline engines are fairly forgiving on a cold day. Actually, modern fuel-injected engines really take some of the fun out of cold weather engine-starting. During the first several minutes after starting a cold vehicle, we are thankful for what is otherwise known as waste heat, he said. Eventually, the waste heat that is normally carried off through the coolant is enough to warm the engine to normal operating temperatures. If the engine is idling, however, it produces little waste heat. It can take a long time to warm an engine thats doing almost nothing except turning its own crankshaft, Casady said. A lot of unburned liquid fuel can make its way down into the crankcase, where it dilutes the oil instead of doing any useful work. The quickest way to warm the engine is to drive slowly, accelerating gently at relatively low engine speed, he said. You will be able to bring the engine up to efficient operating conditions as quickly as possible while minimizing excess engine wear. http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/queries/showall.idc?story_num=2615&iln=635 ------------- Excessive idling can be hard on your engine. Because the engine isn't working at peak operating temperature, fuel doesn't undergo complete combustion. This leaves fuel residues that contaminate engine oil and make spark plugs dirty. http://www.cleanair.utah.gov/winter_driving.htm ------------ Energy Solutions Alberta adds another suggestion: never let your car warm up more than thirty seconds before you start driving. The EPA agrees, and states that longer idling actually causes engine damage. The owners manual in my Audi warns, To avoid unnecessary engine wear and to reduce exhaust emissions do not let your vehicle stand and warm up. Be ready to drive off immediately after starting your vehicle. http://www.terrapass.com/terrablog/posts/2006/02/conservation-tip-idle-engines-are-the-devils-tools.html
