  1. Hey, I enjoy posting on these forums and getting useful information. Klipsch offer these forums for our convience free of charge so we can talk about their great products and how best to use them. They have asked for the flaming of other members to stop. Where is the problem here. Perhaps think about this; if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Chances are, no one wants to hear it anyway. Hard to believe that this problem is created by grown adults.
  2. On the subject of subwoofers, check out http://www.svsubwoofers.com/ for your subwoofer needs. If you feel compelled to spend more on a sub that doesn't necessarily sound better, then look at Klipsch subs. SVS has some great cylindar subs that have got nothing but rave reviews by home users to professionals. Here is a good spot to check out sub reveiws on SVS; http://audioreview.com/pscSpeakers/Subwoofers/PLS_2741_830crx.aspx . There are other good subwoofers out there obviously, but SVS is probably one of the best bangs for your buck in the subwoofer department. I've also heard good things about HSU but never owned one. Hope this helps a bit.
  3. Sorry to hear of your problems man....Such a sad thing when a person has to part with their speakers. Good luck in the job search.
  4. Here is something for you http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3085458530&category=14992
  5. Ok, here is a few things I found about matching the KG-5.5's to a center; the Klipch site says this would be the perfect TIMBRE match for your 5.5's http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=178 And then I found this as well on a Klipsch matching site; http://www.audiocompaniet.no/matrix1.html Both of these speakers I've seen on Ebay and would probably go with the KV-3 instead of the RC-3, but the choice is obviously up to you. Hope I could help a bit. And I'm no expert, I just went off of facts listed by Klipsch themselves.
  6. Sorry to hear that man. Unfortunate that these lessons have to be learned through the expense of your pocket book.....
  7. I'm with MINN on this one. I know that I own Chorus II's and have listened to the RF-7's and I couldn't say that they were better then what I had. In fact, I don't think they were better at all. The KLF series is regarded very well by a lot of HT/audio enthusiats as being a GREAT speaker. I can not see how or why you would justify spending that kind of money on a speaker system when you have something that is great and the improvements would be minimal. This is an opinion and you do whatever you want with your extra $2000, but I don't think you'll feel that you made a $2000 improvement to your system after it's all said and done. If you really want to spend some cash, wait for the new reference line to come out that was shown at CES 04, then maybe make some compairisons and decide.
  8. You know what, I had a Yamaha once and it sounded like crap on my Chorus II's until I put a EQ on them to tame it out a bit. When I purchased my VSX-45TX I was comparing it to the Demon 3803 and with all the EQ settings set to factory on the 45TX, the Denon sounded better. But once I tweaked the EQ settings, the 45TX blew the Denon away. Now, the new Denon looks to be pretty much the same reciever as the previous one except it has a ROOM EQ which I've heard is like a peramdic EQ and will help tweak your speakers to your liking. If I were looking at buying a reciever, I'd go with the 3805 in a heartbeat. But, this is all upon what you find inportant. If you did some looking around in the next week or so, you could probably find a hell of a deal on the 3803. Just my opinion. And I'd stay away from Yamaha with Klipsch speakers. EDIT: I'm sure there are other differences between the 3803 and the 3805, I just don't know what they are and haven't looked them up.
  9. Haven't heard any of the speakers that you mention, but I can tell you that one of the warmest recievers I've heard with Klipsch is Denon. I think you've made a wise choice on that first item on your list. If I were in the market for a new reciever I'd probably buy the 3805, I'd buy more if I could affort it, but I think that 3805 is a sweet reciever. Hope you enjoy it.
  10. Just a suggestion on my part due to the fact that you are thinking of putting a RC-3II for a center. It does not timbre match well at all with the Forte' II's in my opinion. I had one with my Chorus II's and if you haven't had a serious center speaker, you're going to be disappointed with that choice. My Chorus II's over power that little thing big time and make it sound hollow. I upgraded to a KLF-C7 and for the extra couple of $$ it's well worth it. People will also say the Academy is the best match but I don't want to spend $900 on one. If you are going to drop some serious cash on a speaker, consider you hear about 80% of you dialog through your center speaker and it should take top prority. I also own the SVS 20-39PC+ and it's a kickin sub. I've heard nothing but great reviews about the PCi series, but I wanted the extra overhead. I don't know how you could go wrong with the PCi version though. Maybe consider picking up a Denon 3803 as first priority Then a SVS 20-39PCi for a sub. Also stick with the powered subs. I don't think a non-powered sub will do your system justice. And a KLF-C7 for a center. You'll be able to sell that KV-3 on Ebay for $150 or so. If you have any extra money left over, you might consider replacing those Boston's with a pair of RS-3II's for your rear surround and play music in 5 speaker audio instead of 7. Since the back-surrounds are just for backround sounds, this speaker does a very good job of filling the room with them. I was very impressed with mine in HT for side surrounds. Just my opinion. Edit: Here is something else I thought about, if your Heresey II's are in good condition, you could get $600 or so for them on Ebay and then look for a pair of Forte' II's or Quartets for your side surrounds and that would give you a better timbre match. I've seen the Quartets going for around $450 to $500 on Ebay.
  11. I retract my statement about the sub, I didn't realize that he had one.....must have slipped right by my tired little eyes. Sorry about that. I have heard the RSW series and the SVS 20-39PC+ and I'll stick to the SVS personally. I have read good reviews of the RCW series, but I think it's over-priced personally. The SVS is a bit cheaper in price, but a very good contender if you are in need of a sub. So, I would probably go with a new DVD player. And then a amp. Sorry for the confusion...I'm tired.
  12. In order this is what I would replace or purchase; 1) Didn't realize you had a sub. Sorry. I'm blind tonight. 2) New DVD player. 3) The Denon 3803 is a great reciever, I would also think of buying a quality amp and use the Denon as a pre/pro.
  13. I think they are sought after because after the big push of the HT, it left many people with Heritage line speakers without a good center center. I was using a RC-3II for my center and it was clearly outmatched by my Chorus II's. So the decision came down to the Academy or the KLF-C7 for the best possible timbre matches. Since I didn't want to spend nearly a grand on a center channel, I purchased the KLF-C7 from a guy and I can say that it was the best upgrade that I have made to my system in awhile, besides the VSX-45TX. The C7 almost timbre matches my Chorus II's so closely that I can barely tell. If the Academy is better, I'd be hard pressed to notice it unless they were both in my room. The C7 is such a great center for my system that I have no regrets paying the little bit extra that I probably paid. I also thought of purchasing a RC-7 but then thought of the timbre match and the decision was over.
  14. While the title says best movies, most of the picks that I would have picked have been listed. But, one concert that I truely feel that makes Klipsch speakers "SING" is Alice N Chains - Unplugged. I always felt that acustic songs really brought out what a speaker is. I really think this DVD makes my Chorus II's sing a different tune than most speakers. If you haven't heard it, take a listen to it some time, it will make you see your Klipsch speakers in a different light.
  15. LURK LURK LURK.....LURKERS (. ) Well, we have one person from this board that has emailed him offering him more money and said something about the rip in the cone.... Unfortunate when people tell you to "DROP IT" and then turn around and email him telling him that they will offer more money. Scum of the earth.
  16. I realize that I was lied to. The fact is, I put out an email this afternoon to him and like the night in which he didn't reply to me and offered a weird excuse, this is much the same. I believe that he is trying to think of a good way to say he doesn't want to sell the speaker because he got a better deal without saying so much. I know I got screwed, and I know I got my money back without any hassles. I also know that I purchased a KLF-C7 and while it's not as good of a price, I am going to be happier than having the RC-3II. The thing that I noticed about the Academy vs. the C7 is that the Academy's horn looks tiny compaired to the C7's. Am I going to be happier? Not sure. I suppose not considering that I payed about 3X as much. The only answer that he could give me now with the email I sent to not come out a liar would be "Yes, you can have the speaker". Any other way and he proves himself to be a liar. It's hard to make someone admit that they are lying, but I don't see how he could answer my email without saying that I can have it to prove that it is indeed true that the speaker is damaged other than to produce a picture of the tear. What does this gain me? I suppose that I prove that he's a liar and get a bit of satisfaction and possibly send the email records off to them for their review. That way it's in their ballcourt. I do find it interesting how he hasn't replied to me today. I assume that he's scratching his brain on how to lie to me without coming off as a selfish renegging prick. I do know he asked me to write a positive review of him and he would do the same for me....... Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.
  17. Thanks Taz for that detailed explanation. I sort of figured that the most I could do was complain Ebay and write a negative note on his feedback. I don't really believe on being a prick about it since it's not usually my style. I believe more in tact to convey my messages, it has worked pretty well for me this long. On top of that, I being a buyer with 0 statements good or bad just doesn't add up to me to have my first one be negative. The guy has been pretty civil for the most part and I sort of had a feeling that this was going to happen in the long run. If the speaker is truely damaged, maybe he'll decide to part with it and let me do the repairs. Or, if he decides to make up another story or not respond to me, I'll know the truth anyway. I am chalking this one up to learning a lesson in general because I don't see how me writing a negative review of him is going to benifit me in the long run. Like I said, I'll just see how he replies to me and I'll give it some more thought about complaining to Ebay and writing a negative review of him. But from what I've seen and heard, complaining to Ebay does absolutely nothing. But there are always exceptions. FREAK
  18. I have a civil email into him that asks if he still wants to sell the speaker I would still take it off of his hands and fix it myself. We'll see what sort of response he has and then I'll decide what level to take it to from there. Yes, he refunded my money already, but I still won the Ebay auction but I'm not sure what sort of action I can take since he refunded my money other than file a complaint with Ebay and leave him negative feedback. Do I still have grounds to prosecute?
  19. Here is something I found a bit interesting while searching the net for the speaker in which you describe. Now, I would assume that in this compairison chart that the Academy would be listed under the perfect match for the Chorus, Forte',Cornwall, Heresay, and Quartet, but it's not. They list the perfect match for these speakers being the C7. It's hard to find a matching chart for these speakers and I remember stumbling onto this one other time and couldn't remember where I saw it. Also, the list some newer speakers on it and am surprised that the Academy isn't listed at all.... http://www.audiocompaniet.no/matrix1.html
  20. I am currently running the following; Reciever - Pioneer Elite 45TX Mains - Chorus II's Center - RC-3II - Switching to KLF-C7 Side Surrounds - RS-3II's - Switching to KG4's Back Surrounds - KG1's I have listed to my system in 5.1 and 7.1 and have to say that the 7.1 does a much nicer job of filling the entire room. Obviously 6.1 surround movies are limited but my 45TX takes up the job of filling that speaker when only running Dolby Digital surround on the movie. No, it's not the same sounds but it does sound good just the same. Just my opinion.
  21. Another thing, while the RW line is good, I think it's over rated for the price. I've demo'ed the RW line and still say that SVS blows it away. If the RW line was cheaper I would indorse it more, but for the price vs. SVS, I think SVS wins hands down. I also sold my KSW to my brother in law and he's happy with his little infinity 5.1 surround he has with this KSW now. I went over tonight and calibrated his system and it sounded pretty good in there with the KSW, but nothing near the SVS. I could still hear the sloppy bass in the KSW. These 2 subs get rave reviews by a lot of people http://www.svsubwoofers.com/ http://www.hsuresearch.com/ Look up some reviews here; http://audioreview.com/defaultcrx.aspx
  22. I HAD a KSW-12 and the problem with it was that it just couldn't keep up with my Chorus II's at all. I found it bottoming out because of the levels that I play music/movies at and the bass that I like just couldn't be had with the sub I had. So, the search I entered into turned into reading and posting about SVS reviews and comments. I talked to Eric at SVS and we discussed what I like and the levels of volume I listen to it at. I was initially going to buy a PCi model but Eric said that he thought I sould get the PC+ version because I open the windows in the summer and crank it up when I'm working outside. So I ordered it even though I hadn't heard it....All on faith and reviews. Recieved it about a week ago and I can tell you what, that SVS 20-39PC+ absolutely blew the KSW-12 away and left it in the dust. The KSW tends to sound sort of loose when running. It's not the tight bass that you'd like to hear from it. The HT was ok, but music was not so great. The SVS sub is just pure, clean, and tight bass that I have never heard before. I played LOTR Two Towers at about 95dB last night and this sub was shaking my house like I've never heard before, and it didn't distort once. They offer a 45 day money back guarentee and I think that if you are truely serious about bass, look SVS up and check out one of their PCi models if you are looking to save some money. I think you can get into a 25-31PCi for around $550 and you'll know where you spent your money when you recieve it and you won't regret it. Hope this helps.
  23. Dave, shoot me a line if you ever want to sell that 57" TV. I'd be willing to take it off your hands if the $ was right. Not sure what you paid for it but it looks nice.
  24. Heretic, How do you propose I MAKE him give me the speaker? I understand exactly where you're coming from with this, but I'm not sure what I can actually do. If I say I want the speaker even if it's damaged, and he makes up another excuse, I'm still getting scammed. Is he a piss poor Ebay'er? Yes, probably is considering that it's this sort of crap that angers people because he failed to do his part and properly research his item before hand. I also think he's a COP.....which is sort of funny. It would be funny to show up on his doorstep and demand my ACADEMY. I could notify Ebay, but could they really force him to turn the speaker over? Not sure, don't have enough experience at dealing with Ebay to know.
  25. Well, he refunded my money this evening and put a note with it that he is going to try and look in the Metro area this weekend for replacement cones for it. He apologized again and that was that. So, I got my money back, yes I was probably scammed. Sould I make a huge deal out of it? Not sure entirely. I tell you what, I'm going to wait for a few weeks and then email him asking what sort of outcome he has had with the cone and base his response on what sort of feedback I give him on the Ebay site. I understand if he caught on that he could get more for it, but the least he can do is offer it to me again if he truely does have a problem with it. People just generally piss me off. There are no morals left with most people and only live for the all mighty dollar. Sad world
