  1. Please don't advertise it. We horn guys would rather the direct/radiator or planar guys not know what kind of fun we're really having. We prefer them to think we're all listening to And we're not? I thought I had finally become ammune to it and actually enjoy it! Honk on ---
  2. Right now there is a Miniwatt N3, 2x EL84 power tubes, 3.5 watts == $150.00. Owned one years ago driving Belles and Cornwalls. Crazy good for $299 retail, ridiculous for $150. If memory serves I believe they use a switching power supply and EL 84 are a wonderful tube. I really prefer more power but it plays a Big 3.5 watts. It is a steal.

    What I Got Today!

Nice shirt - I'm jealous! I have the matching tie - CEC - 2 Me - 1 Indeed you win! Merry Christmas
  4. Yeah it's amazing the sound a quality 2 way stand mount can provide. It's takes a little more poop to get em' going but they image like crazy, are very articulate and with a good design and quality drivers bass can be very satisfying. I have a pair of Merlin TSM I rotate in/ out of my rig and they are a real joy. Actually looking at them right now -- I think I'll set them up and take them for a drive. I heard some higher end BW stand mounts a couple weeks ago and yeah they sounded much like you described.
  5. Owning yet another speaker is about as practical as sprouting a third arm but variety as they say is the spice of life, particularly in the hifi hobby. Owned 1.6 and mg12 some years ago but never in the "correct" room to allow them to breath a bit. I have the room now and shouldered up next to the KHorns might be a an opportunity to really hear the difference in speaker design/theory.
  6. Unfortunately and as it is many times when current good fortunes bring less positive long term Outcomes. Yeah I'm thrilled that I can dump less than $2/gallon premium into my 6.4 Liter Dodge without wincing but take a look at your stock portfolios where all energy stocks are well off their normal margins. And we all or anyone with a diversified mutual fund portfolio are invested in energy. It's hard to come out a winner on both ends in this sector.
  7. No chit - there's a pretty good wind blowing in from the North.
  8. Suburb of KC, Kansas side Costco 1.69/reg // 1.94/premium
  9. RickTate - come on really? You bring in KS gun laws for thread on high $$$ hifi? Tell you what, come on over the state line, I'll protect you. And since you brought it up for whatever reason, a mall attacker in KS Will have return fire.
  10. Didn't happen I guess - ain't going back Maybe this will help - Picture - A stack of 7500 single $ in front of each speaker A stack of 6500 single $ in front of each amp A stack of 6000 single $ in front of the preamp And just sprinkle the rest around for effect. Paint a picture --?
  11. Yep that's what these 802's were - blowing 'em out at $12K/pr. Regular price $15K. Like 'em or not, they are impressive, built like brick crap house.
  12. A local brick mortar A/V is calling it quits and I took advantage buying what I am sure is one of a last few new Samsung plasma big screens. In the "big room" - B&W Nautilus 802D, Classe 600 watt monoblocks, AR tube hybrid preamp, high end table, cables, DAC etc. totaling around $40-45K. I must say where most of us here have good if not great sounding rigs, me included, this level of gear is in a different league. And yes it sounds very, very good. Extremely clean, crisp, almost too much bass to the point of bloat but an effortless hi end sound. A real clinic on hi end "hi fi" presentation. Whatever the hell that might be. Through it all each piece showed tremendous build, engineering quality. No doubts there.
  13. That Clown would be an ideal cell mate for Subway Jared! Bring on the double-meat foot longs ----!
  14. A picture is tough as i dont think the grills come off? Maybe picture this Chris - looking the KHorn in its corner, Fastlane elliptical is positioned in the left side of the top hat with the tweeter next to the righ. OR - the Fastlane site shows these same speakers being restored under KHorn restoration. I'll try pics in some form or another. Thanks
  15. My KHorns have the Dave Harris Fastlane top hat where the mid and tweeter are positioned side-by-side not stacked vertically as on a stock KHorn. I currently have the tweeter to the inside position on both speakers, mid horn to the outside. Do you think it makes a darn bit of difference? I do know that when I owned Magneplaners the tweeter section was to be on the inside. Apples and oranges I know but would that theory apply? I do know moving these beasts the 22 feet to opposite sides of the room is always a ball buster. Fastlane if you happen on this please chime in.
  16. The only Magic Wood I've heard of is an elixir not meant for the type of wood rot you mention! Don't ask how I know-----?
  17. Although my wife and I did the screenings this summer I still wonder of its value. I was expecting to see much more "modern" equipment for the scans they perform, something on order of mobile CAT scan labs in tractor trailers much like they do for mobile breast cancer scanning. CAT scan tunnels are light years ahead of what you will see from LifeScans. I suppose for peace of mind or to reveal a very real significant blockage it has value and for that we don't regret attending. Just don't expect state of the art medical electronics.
  18. LOL - yeah me too !!! 10'/10G with gold banana ~ $80 3 premium RCA interconnects ~ $80 ea. Am afraid if I don't do it now, I never will. I am so meticulous when it comes to routing and wiring, only want to do it once. Kinda of checking to see if I might be out of my mind? The thread title does say "cables" Is that $80 per foot on the RCA's or the entire one meter cable? If $80/meter you ain't scratched the surface yet. Just wait --- cables can be a very slippery slope.
  19. After looking for a TV since Thanksgiving I picked a 60 in Visio M series for a grand at Costco. Still in the box, unpacked. One of the last locally owned brick mortar A/V store is closing and when looking around I see a 55 inch 7 series Samsung Plasma on the wall. We talk, it is perfect, less than 50 hrs., as all top plasmas the picture is incredibly real, deep blacks without the almost too shocking "real" colors of 4K HD. $500 out the door - thanks Ill gladly take it. Back to Costco to put $600 back in my pocket and I get the plasma I wanted all along. Oh yeah, and picking up a Parasound DAC at half price to finally get into the computer/digital/streaming craze. And maybe a couple other goodies, who knows.
  20. Leopard skin Jubiliees - the new sound of the Bunny Ranch. "Let us play with your - ears."
  21. LG has recently invested billions in new OLED manufacturing facilities. This is obviously their vision for TV in the future. That and a handshake commitment from Apple to buy OLED products from them(LG) in the future. OLED is the new plasma for the production of high quality black contrasts. Hi end plasmas of a few years ago will actually blow the doors edge lit LED for black and life like color saturation. I've found 4K HD seems artificial in its brightness. That's what sunk the plasmas of Panasonic, Pioneer, etc.; they were out marketed by the publics perception that bright was better. For true picture quality OLED is the new plasma.
  22. That's a great design answer to your question on making "large" speakers disappear, kinda sorta. I like it and the light fabric makes them a bit more likeable to the uninitiated. Very cool --
  23. Hey Mercedes - my sons a cop and was involved in a home related domestic shooting where he was drawn on by the "bad guy". I'm glad he is able to wear a Kevlar vest that makes him look "tough". So from me to you - blow it out your ***. And yeah the bad guy is no longer drawing on anyone.
