  1. I purchased Pro Media 2.1. Much better sound than expected. Compared them to other speaker sets at Micro Center (it was in the middle of a beautiful day in MN-store was empty & salesman was bored), the salesman was surprised at how well the 2.1 sounded. He had been pushing the Logitech and had never bothered to listen to these. He seemed to think the 2.1 were the best he had heard. I bought them and am listening to them right now. They don't sound as good as Lascala's, but for $139.95 they sound extraordinary. Go listen to a pair.
  2. Mireille Mathieu - Ein Sonnenstrahl Ertrinkt Im Meer. I don't understand a word she sings but really enjoy it.
  3. I have the AL3 in mine. Best speakers I've ever owned.
  4. Great looking record storage unit. Do you have one of these for each LP? Do you use smaller ones for 45s?
  5. Biscuits should work just fine; however, if you prefer to use screws you can use those square drive construction type trim screws. Besure to drill a pilot hole as well as a countersink. The countersink should be somewhat smaller than the screw head (I use 3/16ths bit for countersinking and that might well be larger than necessary). After countersinking use a sharp blade to lengthen your screw holes in the direction of the wood grain and fill with Dap or someother wood fill. If you are carefull in how you fill the screw holes (be careful with your fill colors as some fills will accept more stain than others), it becomes difficult for others to spot them after you have put a finish on your boxes. I think the plywood heritage boxes look great, they look like what they are. Good luck in whatever you decide. Tubby
  6. I have an M3 SS, M4-2 with the winder and an M4(black paint). M3 is better with 90mm. M4 ia better choice if you are going to use 35mm lense. I like 50mm lense on M4 better because you can view what is going on around the edges of the picture composition. The painted finish of the M4 scratches easier and shows more wear, get it in the chrome finsh if possable. I started out with SLRs but like the rangefinder alot more. My candid snapshot type pictures seem are better and easier for me to get with the rangefinder than my old Nikon F. Rangefinders are faster for me as well. Long lenses are better on the SLRs. I have the 280mm M mount and use it, but it is big and slow to use. Focusing the rangefinder is much quicker for me. I seem to make fewer mistakes with the leica vs the Nikon F. The leica lenses are excellent and slides seem to be a bit richer than those taken on my old Nikon F. I don't see myself going back to SLRs. The advantages of the rangefinder seem to out weigh its disadvantages-for me. I am not a professional, a friend of mine who is, uses SLRs; however his work is mostley done in the studio. I used to take alot of the cover pictures for our magazine and found the Leica easier to use for that as well. Rangefinders seem to give me an edge on understanding what I'm looking at.
  7. Frank Van Alstine told me to spray the inside of the Lascala base bin with audo body undercoating, the thick, black, goopy stuff that takes a long to dry. It is no doubt a messy job and hard to reverse. I don't know if it would work or not.
  8. Can pan-locs be mounted on standard 19" audio rack rails?
  9. What is asphalt sheeting and how is it applied?
  10. Would either stiffening or damping improve sound? Is there really enough bin vibration to degrade the sound?
  11. A local manufacturer of audio equipment (Frank Van Alstine) suggested that I coat the inside of the bass bins of my Lascalas with automobile undercoating-that black stickey, gooey stuff. He told me it would be a messy, dirty, smelly job that would be best done in either the garage or outdoors and that a substantial dry time would be required. He said this would reduce bin vibration, enhansing the sound. I've avoided doing so simply because I don't want to be without my speakers through the dry time. Has anyone done this or anything similar. Is it worth doing?
  12. I don't have the rack for the 410 & 420. My rack is 31 1/2" X 31 1/2" side by side in a standard 19" width. I am currently running the au 717 because it fits. I like the power of the Sansui because I don't have to turn the volumn up past the 12 o'clock position when playing LPs. I still have 12 1/2" of space left in the rack and if I replaced the au 717 there would be another 6". I know nothing about tubes. The Sansui seems bright with the Lascalas. I was using Speakerlab 7wa speakers (Horn tweeter, horn mid, 10" and 12" woofers-both active and sharing the same cabinate space). The Speakerlabs seem to have no detail, muddy compared to the Lascalas. The sound improvement is day and night, I now wondering if it is possable to improve the sound that much more by switching to a new amp. The Speakerlabs now sound like junk to me.
  13. Room is 12'6" X 38', 7'7" high. I play rock and roll, jazz, country western (my wife), and some classical. Equipment is rack mounted, that is why I like the Sansui. I also use a dbx 3bx ds and a dbx 1231 equalizer to correct loss of bass in left speaker - it sits next to an open archway to another room. When listening to LPs, the volumn is usually set somewhere between the 9 and 12 o'clock position. CDs require so little volumn that I turn the volumn down on the CD player so it can be turned up more on the 717 and be somewhat more easily adjusted. Are tube amps available in rack mounts? Could I still use my preamp section in the Sansui?
