  1. Welcome to The Forum! The Heresy I speakers start rolling off around 60hz. I use mine with a sub; and have it crossed at 60hz. Seamless transition (pretty good sub) all the way down to the mid 20hz region...... I have tried crossing at 60, 70, 80, and 100hz. 60 is by far the best to my ears. (they are set to "small" on my receiver; so the receiver cuts anything below 60hz to them) My opinion is your best bet is to get the woofers replaced with OEM units; or the ones Bob Crites sells; if you can afford them (~$200). These speakers are very efficient already. (94-95db). If you are looking for improvent to SQ; replace the caps in the Xover. (Sonicaps go for around $40-$50 from Mr. Crites). If you are looking to increase bass output; sealing the back panels with foam strips will get a tighter seal and improve bass response some. There are many, many other improvements the DIY person can make. (Ask Moray James and Groomlakearea51! [] ). Good Luck.
  2. Thanks for the input. I will look for the sealant you guys speak of. Even though these are 3 way speakers; I decided to use foam intead of rubber.... (May not have made much difference; but IDK. ).....
  3. I was fortunate to be part of something similar last year in Chicago. Everyone who can attend this should.... It could be an excellent evening! [Y] Enjoy!
  4. Yeah, what sucks; is 10-15 years from now, I may be refoaming again....... (I intend to keep these for awhile). I wanted to find comparable butyl rubber surrounds; but it was discouraged as the weight and properties are different. Anyway..... hook up day is coming! [H]
  5. I have my PC in close proximity to my HK receiver. I have a CPU fsn running off the PCs power supply, and it is externally placed on top of my receiver. This works really well. The only downside might be dust buildup, but our buildng is 100 years old; so it just means more regular vacuuming of the PC and electronic components.
  6. Chisox, There is a CL posting for minty KLF 20s for $500. I have my heart set on the 30s; but fnding them around $500 will not be easy....... I got to Hear Big Cliffs Chorus IIs versus Fortes in the same evening. Bigger; more badass soundstage. Both speakers rock; but the Chorus IIs do it better and even more so in a larger room! I'd like to hear a comparison of these two as well (30s versus Chorus IIs). I think the KLF 30s are a more pure rock and roll speaker; where the Chorus IIs can just pound you no matter what..... Awesome experience; I still am grateful to Big Cliff.......
  7. Sonicaps on Quartets will produce similar improvements as my Heresy Is. I think they cost ~$40 and 1.5 hours time (including sealing the Heresy backs). Do it! You will be glad you did. [H]
  8. Thanks again Guys; for your help...... Can not wait to get these running on the HK 430 in the bedroom. I have the woofers installed (and "thunk" tested). No rub and they sound solid.
  9. Refoaming.... DONE. They are drying right now. I am pretty confident they will be just fine. Here is removing a dust cap.
  10. Come on down... The Price is Right!!!!!
  11. [] More volume? Perhaps.... Better? Sorry.... Maybe louder, but not better. [H] You are welcome to come by for a listen. BTW.... An Epik Empire (Or better yet Dual Empires) will stomp any sub spoken of in this thread. Just Sayin []
  12. Not sure about the inductors; but the Sonicaps will make a nice difference. My Heresy A-B test proved the difference to me....... Good Luck!
  13. I think Meister is pretty spot on. The KLF cabinets can come apart and require regluing with gorilla glue or something similar. I too, feel shipping these (or getting shipped to you) is a bad choice. Driver damage is likely. That being said; the 30s are a kick arse speaker; reputed to be the best Klipsch speakers for rock. (20s and 30s). I wish I could find a pair in my price range. Good Luck!
  14. Thanks guys! I am going to wait to see how good/ comparable the new dust caps are. (I almost started cutting the old ones out, but would rather be sure the new ones are good). I guess I just need to be really careful.....
  15. I would suggest leaving them as is; but if you must; there are several good threads here about this repair. (You will have to use the search function). Good Luck.
  16. Cornfed; wow; that was a good deal! [Y]
  17. Thanks for the reply. I did a set of KG 5.2 12" woofers before. They were polypropelyne, not paper; so that is my biggest concern, is cutting/ tearing the paper while removing the center cap. The glue supplied was also white and dried clear; it is almost like elmers glue. I think I will go to the hobby shop and get an exacto knife...... Thanks again.
  18. +1! Sorry for her family and loved ones' loss......
  19. Welcome to The Forum..... I should point out.... the majority of Klipsch CPU speakers are still working fine. Promedia Ultra 5.1s may be the exception....... My point is; the link is good. (Thanks!) But I still believe the name Klipsch stands for quality. ( I have PM 2.1s almost 8 years old and still working).
  20. OP, Chi Sox is pretty spot on..... BUT...... I will tell you that Herresy Is with a sub equal (and possibly surpass) Fortes without one........ (Chorus speakers are more a long the lines of Cornwalls...... Next step up) My .02......
  21. 2 Sub 12s would probably get more loud than one U12, but what do you prefer? Clean, tight, accurate bass (Emotiva U12 doing music) or loud, sometimes distorted bass (Sub 12 doing HT). I love bass, but I also like it porportional...... (Accuracy). If I turn up my sub, it can be overwhelming....... (It has some stones). Again... It is your ears.... (I say this a LOT). Good Luck.
  22. Emotiva Ultra 12 for $375ish...... It may be overkill, but he will not be sorry....... Good Luck.
