  1. My wifes old Sanyo boombox has a boost button. It sounds louder without turning up the volume. Point being on Mickey Mouse setups like this it probably does not knock down the mids. It boosts the bass and maybe the highs on the 3 band EQ.
  2. I added a 1080 about 4 weeks ago. It helped take some of the edge off of my RB-75 , Yamaha RXV1400 reciever combo. I think you would have the same or better results with your RF 7's because they are more demanding for power. That is my opinion. Most people probably could not tell the difference in my setup. But to me it was worth it. $700 b-stock. Good luck. Pioneer Elite/Klipsch should be a good combo from what I've read. Are your sources good? CD, DVD player.
  3. Does anyone want to speculate if there will be a matching set of droids for the proto-type? Meaning center channel, surrounds, bookshelf, sub, or hovering butt kicker? LOL! I may give it a chance with the grill on though.
  4. You gotta love the mid horn on the proto-d2. It sounds sweet just looking at it.
  5. Mdbrien, God Bless you New Orleans folks. Hope you and your Klipsch headed for high ground last week.
  6. Where is the system profiles? Will there be one? Or is everyone going to have huge profile signatures?
  7. Uh Oh. I'm all sack and no balls.[:$]
  8. Damn. I just got my Crazy Poster status and now one Blue Ball. Gibby
  9. That is awesome Scooter. I bet it looks really mean below your big screen. Maybe you and Klipsch can team up and create a new reference/premiere center like that. 3.5 way 10" woofers 4 driver Front Ported (for placement near wall under a projector screen)(or cabinet) Non reflective surface for glare off the screen. Call it the Premiere RC-75 or the Scooter Super Center. I'd buy it
  10. RB75 is below my screen, about 6 inches off of the floor, it is tipped back a little so horn points at ears in seating position. my screen is 116" diagonal. Top is 10" from ceiling, bottom is about 27 inches from the floor. It sounds just like the dialog is coming from the center of the screen. I have heard of RF7's for centers but don't know how they are positioned.
  11. Ran across a deal on a mint demo model RF 7 for $515 a few days ago. I thought it would fit perfect laying sideways on a custom stand about 12 inches off of the floor. Just under my projector screen. I hear the 60x90 horn can be turned for this. I have 3 RB75's LCR now. This center RB75 beats the RC35 that it replaced. Couldn't help but try to think of a good reason to take this bargain black beauty home. Gibby
  12. Just got a black beauty like yours. Worth every penny. Good luck.
  13. Here Goes WOW I never knew what imaging and soundstage sounded like in my theater until now. I had to keep checking to make sure the surround was not on. Sarah Mclachlan "Angel" gives me bigger goose bumps now. Piano fills the room. Vocals were clearer. Even Dave Matthews(if thats possible) Nightwish album is incredible. Just close your eyes and let it tear into your soul. Didn't think an orchestra would fit in my basement. Big full rich sound Fast attacks. can feel that push and pull thing you guys talk about. Less fatiguing sound now even at louder levels vs. 110wpc AV reciever. I was skeptic on the Klipsch/Yamaha ==== Bright/Harsh thing. Now I am a believer. It definately warmed up the sound of my Yamaha RXV 1400. Thank you Rotel for bringing out the best of my RB75's. I was almost starting to under appreciate them. I can't imagine the mighty RF7's. Only one bad thing. My RW-12 sub is getting stompped into the dust. Fix the weakest link next I guess. Gibby
  14. I heard humor from a salesman. A new in-wall surround speaker will be introduced.
  15. Hope to get it hooked up Tuesday AM. More to come...........Don't expect too much I'm still a newbie.
  16. For the last couple months I have been checking out the pro amp market for home audio. Conclusion was : Carver Professional ZR 1000 or 1600 QSC PLX 1602 Crown K1 I wanted to stay in the $700-1000 range. I thought the home audio amps were about twice the price. While on vacation shopping I hinted to the wife about my find. A single floor model RF 7 (looked mint) for $515. "Would have been my horizontal center channel" And she didn't say heck no. So today when I ducked into a store to find the B stock RB 1080 amps (200wpc x2) for $699. I bought it because I felt I had approval for the RF7 and didn't get it. I hope I did the right thing. My allowance is now used up for a while. I hope the B stock unit works out. It has full warranty. Gibby
  17. That really sticky double sided industrial tape should work. It also might give a little cushion/vibe resistance also. It is about a 1/16th inch thick, that foamy cell stuff. Might be hard to remove stuckum for resale but better than holes.
  18. Michael The Avia DVD is a tutorial and how to set up and calibrate audio and video for home theater. I think it is probably geared more towards video: contrast, color, gamma, has see thru filters for colors red, blue, green. etc... I got mine thru HDTV supply off eBay. $40 I wish I could tell you more but I didn't get to use it yet. The AVS forum folks talk highly of Avia. and another but I forget the name. gib
  19. Thanks spkrdctr. Just was thinking back 10 years ago in college. My reciever was down so my roommate hooked up his detachable boom box to my speakers for a whole weekend of partying. I'm thinking there was a lot of square waves riding the rails, "If those things even have rails" uugh
  20. Colter, Been meaning to try my rat shack meter with my new AVia DVD. But. I got a bad disk. Brand new. It's warped on the inner ring. Only my luck. Have been e'mailing them. I think they will replace.
  21. ---------------- On 8/12/2005 2:20:39 AM DrWho wrote: when an amp clips, it essentially sends DC through the speaker (instead of AC). This is bad because it quickly heats up the voice coil and usually results in thermal breakdown (it melts). It is the nature of a voice coil to become completely damaged all at once...in other words, if it's working now then it's never really experienced any damaging power in the past. You know a speaker is good when it sounds good...any kind of damage results in very audible artifacts. ---------------- So good sounding ebay or pawn shop speakers could have lots of life left in them. They really are not half used or burnt out. Correct?
  22. With a 2 year old in the house, you should consider putting a fuse on the speaker line. Actually I have twin 2 year olds in the house and a 5 yr old
  23. Thanks guys What is the easiest way to fuse? Can you "in line" a blade fuse on the + speaker wire. Do both the HF and LF. What amp ratings of those instrument fuses would you use? I have RB75's bi wired HF and LF. And RC35 and RB25 for rear and surround not bi-wired.
  24. Does the wire in the magnets fry off it's insulation? or what Does damage happen in the first seconds or minutes or hours. Like those 20 seconds it takes you to get to the old Kenwood reciever because the 2yr old cranked the volume on it. Just a thought I had while considering some used speakers. How do you know they are good. Just because the cones are not dented means they are ok. If the same speaker was pushed with clean power but insane amounts. Would the cones of the woofers or tweeters tear or pull the surrounds out. But the hidden parts be intact.
  25. Yes that would work ok. Better yet see if your yamaha is a 7.1 see if it has a zone 2 output and put the outdoor speakers on that. That way you could listen at different volumes and sources(cd dvd radio etc.) outside Better than that hook up another old reciever to your zone 3 RCA outputs. This would have a few advantages. That is what I do with my hot tub speakers. good luck
