  1. Don't know if this will answer or not. I took the last shot with tape against the window, which is NOT in the same plane as the wall. The window is actually a bit further away than the wall. My hope is this will be close enough to answer your questions.
  2. And when the tape came out the front side, I took another picture shooting straight down. So, for fast 'easy' numbers, you need 3' on each wall and 3' from corner straight into room (I like to round up)
  3. Next I slid the tape UNDER the base of the K-402 and slid it to the back corner
  4. Here's the tape measure. I tried to take it as perpendicular to the wall as I could but I think there's enough fudge room there to simply say, keep the first 36" free and you are good to go.
  5. Ok Mike... I got some pictures that I think will help. The short answer is, if you have them snug into the corner, the Jubilees will own the first 36" from the corner. The pictures will show you that they really take up less than 36" and i want you to take note that my baseboard kept me from pushing it back even more (probably an inch after baseboard and shoe molding) here is a pic of the LEFT side of the left speaker against the left wall so you can see the gap that was there before I took another shot. Clearly if the floor allowed, the speaker COULD snug in tighter.
  6. Maybe if you get a chance to listen to the Jubilees, you will make a comment on the forum as to your impressions?
  7. I've got a sawzall, right angle drills, compressor, nailguns, levels, T-squares, circular saws and of course, bottles of glue. We can MAKE them fit for you!! [6]
  8. I can vouch that my Khorns held my 2102 without nary a wimper. I have no idea what the VRD's weigh
  9. I had my tube amps on top of my Khorns (congrats again btw) I've had people say don't do it and other say "they lug guitar amps around with tubes in them and nothing happens there" I'd personally say just put a soft towel under it and have at it!! I didn't notice any sonic differences either (I did have them on floor also)
  10. Something to bear in mind... the top end of these things are a lot more forgiving than Khorns/LaScalas. The sweet spot when I had my Khorns resided right in the middle of the room where a table sits (and wife was NOT going to let me move it). With the (in my case) K402, I can sit just about anywhere in the room and hear everything. the biggest reason I don't have mine shoved all the way into a corner is the silly power cord issue. Roy said you could pull them out something like 10" from the side walls and either not lose "anything" or "anything significiant" (I forget which). Big point I'm trying to muddle through is with my Khorns & LaScalas, the HF is more like a laser and with the K-402 it's more like a floodlight covering the entire room. You might not "have" to angle them. Cool thing is, you can if you want (unlike Khorns) and not lose anything in the bass department.
  11. Given what I see there, you're GONNA block that window to some degree. What I can do when I get home (presuming Roy's numbers don't help you) is shove one of mine back into a corner and see how far out the wall it goes. My guess is it will end up protruding less into your room than the LaScalas do. (I know you want the width, not depth) I've attached a pic which I know you've probably seen before. Those are 12" logs so maybe that will give some perspective. Today, I've got mine pulled ~10" from the wall and firing more directly into the room. I've got a big fat heavy electrical plug in a socket that mandates ONE of the speakers be jacked around a bit. I simply jacked the other one around so it would be more symmetrical.
  12. I'll be interested to see if you have the same sentiments if/after you get a chance to visit & hear them!
  13. Well that does it... I guess the big bash is on at my place. Now the REAL test begins...(and Mark, JC, Fritzie, TBrennan and others can attest to this...) if you can FIND me... []
  14. Mike, I've done it for others so I SHOULD know the numbers (and I don't [:$]) If you'd like to either give me a phone call tonight (I'm leaving town for several days tomorrow morning), I'll be happy to give you exact numbers while you're on the phone so we can be sure you've got the right numbers. They SHOULD be smaller than Dean's Khorns & false corners. Had you had Khorns in the location then the answer is easy... it's basically a swap. These are a tad wider though because of the finished flair. If you want to talk tonight & get some numbers (although I guess the forum should have the numbers for the 3-way version with dimensions??) I expect to be home & done walking the dogs by 6:30. Anytime after that would work. 865-988-8555 As I reflect...I even already have a tape measure sitting next to them for when I measured their overall height for Dean.
  15. I'm heading to Hilton Head in about 24 hours, so if you're really fast, I can load them up & deliver them to him! [ap]
  16. Great! Listening to music is what it's all about. Or . . . are you going to be listening to sweep tones? Parrot... you might get a perverse kick out of this. When we went to Hope last summer, several of us got there a couple days early. One day we had the chance to swing by the factory and the Jubilee that Roy was going to 'audition' for us was in the test chamber. Of coruse we all wanted to see inside there and all that, but while in there, Roy asked "Would you like to HEAR the Jubilee?" Well, I think our collective answer was "well DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and we all scurried into the test chamber and they shut the door. This thing was sitting in a very imposing way on a stand with a mic a couple feet in front of it. As we were preparing, I was asking myself..."I wonder what he'll play for us?" Freebird? Frank Sinatra? Bee Gees? Then it started. The volume (thankfully) wasn't anywhere near its capability but it started none the less. We were getting a sneak listen to the Jube... Then the sound grew a bit... what piece did he bestow upon our ears, but a test tone sweep!!!! []
  17. Congrats to you Sam! [Y] Just be sure you show up & nab the Khorns WITHOUT hearing the Jubilees...lest you change your mind and wait to save up a few more pennies!!! []
  18. I did some rewiring (both speaker wire AND IC's) and picked up some hum. It was that comment to him that made him decide to send these to me. He suggested that the grounding sheath around the wires would help elimnate that (probably 60 hz) hum.
  19. I'm one that's happy using 12-g wire from HD. I was recently given some 'fancy' wire. This wire appears to be two stranded 10-g wires (I think they're fully stranded but if not then it's a solid core with strands around it) This stuff looks about the size that I have going to my stove/oven! Anyway, it appears to be two 10-g wires, individually insulated of course. What I find interesting is SURROUNDING this pair of wires is one of those braided wire sheaths. There is then the plastic wrap surrounding the whole ensemble. The guy who gave it to me, as I recall, suggested to me that the two wires will go from amp to driver leads. He then said that the ground sheath would be terminated on the amplifier end but OPEN on the speaker end. He said this sheath will help minimize any noise pickup and if I did get something, it would drain it to the ground on the amp instead of carrying it towards the speaker. 1. I don't know if I remember exactly what he said correctly so if I butchered some of the above, my pardons 2. I don't know if any of the above is accurate, regardless of what he told me. 3, How might I best try to utilize this wire? As it is right now, I'm thinking in putting it from my Mc-2102 to my K-402's. (or might it be more interesting to put it to the bass bins since they are exposed to more power). 4. Regardless of where I might use it, should I use it as a simple 2 wire and buy some termination spades so I can somehow plug it in or am I just as well trimming some of the excess girth and use the smaller tip as a direct connection to my amp/drivers? 5. What about that ground wire sheath? This is the part that for me, is something out of the ordinary. Should I forget about it? Try to terminate it somehow? (if so, where) I do not recall that ANY of my amps have ANY kind of a ground to them but I might be in error there. If they do not have a ground (I just verified the solid state on the bass unit doesn't) then is this sheath useless to me? 6. If there IS perhaps a ground on the McIntosh amp (dictating that I use it on the K402) would I do as said and simply ground one end of it? What might this sheath do for me, if anything? He gave it to me as a gift to try and I told him I'd try it & see what happens. I'm perfectly willing to give it a whirl. I don't expect much (if any) difference than the 12-g stuff I'm using already but I'll try to keep an open mind. Besides, since XLR cables have the sheath around them, maybe there's more going on than I'm aware of? What say you?
  20. Shawn...if you read this thread... Would those LaScala crossovers you sent me work on the 510/LaScala in a 2 way? Edit: Dang you're fast
  21. I once made a reference to a "JubScala". Roy says they (K-402 & LaScala bass bin) will match up very nicely. I went on to ask him (in my case) about mixing the 510 and the 402 using the 510 for center channel. As I recall, I don't think it was his favorite mix, not that it would sound "bad"... unfortunately, that's a vague memory to me. I'll be interested to see what the answer is because when (if ever) I get my basement done and slap my 3 LaScalas down there, they'll be my front 3 speakers. I wonder if three 510's would be a better mate to the K-402 than three K-400's? (given that they all might not "match"...which one is the lessor of two evils)
  22. I see you're a bit south of Savannah. My wife & I are heading to HH & Bluffton this week. While there I'm hoping/planning on meeting up with Chris Robinson & hearing his system. I'd love to see how that big Danley can put out. I guess you're about 7 hours from me.
  23. What about the BLOOM??????????????????
