  1. "got bored with it" lol....sounds like an old girlfriend of mine as she showed me the door... lol [6] (oops, did I just admit that? [:$] ) Here's an approach you might consider... surely SOMEONE "near" you (hour drive ?) has some LaScalas or perhaps Khorns that could give you an opportunity to at least hear the beasts in SOME kind of format. If so, you will have a reference point and can go from there. You might be totally blown away by the LaScala sound and be 100% content for that (for the next 18 months [A] ) Then if you want to move up, you can go to the Khorns and be happy with those for perhaps 36 months... [A]...you get the idea. Ok, so I'm being somewhat of a brat. Seriously though, there has to be someone relatively near you so you can at least get a small audition and create a starting point. With your Danely, you can probably get by with ANY of the speakers and not want for much more thump. After all I've read on the DTS 20, I'm kind of intrigued as to how it would sound on the Jubilees. (you wanna drag it up here and we'll audition each others stuff? []) I'm intrigued with you getting bored... Might I ask what kind of sound you're after? (I'm not familiar with the Def Tech stuff at all) Do you want high dynamics? High clarity? Lots of visceral impact? (perhaps the Def Tech does all that, I don't know) I DO know that with the Heritage line, you are clearly walking down that path, just a matter of degree & placement in room issues. The word I use most often is they sound "BIG". I might want to add... if your room is big enough (with corners) to "handle" Khorns, then it is big enough to handle Jubilees. I would even go further to say, if your room will NOT handle Khorns (no good corners) you can STILL maybe get by with Jubilees as they do not 'require' to be tight into the corner like Khorns do. Obviously, there can be other room issues making a Jubilee hard to fit but I'd contend that the Jubilee will have the placement ease that the LaScala has (needs no corner), yet the better sonic benefits the Khorn has. Kind of a best of both worlds. (ok, so I'm now up to 45% pimp) [] Something else to consider (if it's sound your after and can live with 'ugly' visuals). Seems the K402 horn (on the Jubilee) is a lot better horn than the smaller horns on the LaScala & Khorns. You could buy some cheap (ugly/beat up?) LaScala boxes with plans on using the woofer section ONLY (since you have the subs). You could then mount the K402 on top of them and get some of the benefits of the 402 over the other horns. You would run the setup as a 2-way. I'd bet that would also be a killer setup. Offer to audition here is still open, just for the record. [Y]
  2. I agree with Fritzie on contacting Badcaw Boy. Badcaw is also known as "Berry Boy" and I'm sure his wife has even OTHER names for him other than "Mr. Roy Delgado". [:@] [] you can email him at roy.delgado@klipsch.com He was in on designing the Jubilee and I THINK soley designed the K402 horn which is the big "plug ugly" horn you see on most pictures of it. He'll probably put you onto Chuck but maybe not. They'll first come up with "can" they do it, then how much. (side question to others: don't they make some of those BIG guns (mcm's) out of marine grade??) If so, I don't see why they couldn't do a Jube. you'd have the only Jubilees certified to use as a dinghy!! [6] If you want to take a "business expense" trip to the Smokey Mountains, you're welcome to find your way to my place and give them an audition. After all, if you DID get a pair for your business, woudn't giving them an audition be part of the process? Just had the 10th person over yesterday giving a listen (enjoyed the visit Tom).
  3. Try to see the Blue Man Group show... it's VERY hard to describe it but I can almost bet you 100% that you and anyone you're with (family, children, girlfriend) will also love it. Especially in Vegas, they have an absolute KICK HINEY sound system in there (for real). Probably Bose!! []
  4. I want to (try) to be the first one to say WOW~!!!
  5. I'm afraid you'd have to take that up with Amy's earlobe... [] [:$] [:#]
  6. I'm starting a vicious and uncalled for rumor, that he's now holding out for a pair of Jubilees... []
  7. Mas Mas Mas... I thought you'd get a kick out of what happened to me. I downloaded & printed your files. As a bit of history, I recently decided to go to the eye doctor as I've not been to one in probably 35 years. I'm starting to notice the need to "lengthen my arms" as I read. vision is "20/20" however he said I can stand to use some $3.00 1 diopter reading glasses, bought at Walmart/other. I picked your stuff off the printer... hmm...can't read worth a damn... reach for my $3.00 glasses... STILL fuzzy as heck...what gives??? I have a damn fine color laser printer... Oh...seems the work itself is essentially out of focus. My initial reaction was all the sudden my eyes have gone KAPUT on me and now I realize it's a sinister act by yourself to simply freak me out. I (honestly) can't decide if its easier for me to read with the glasses ON or OFF. Quite a quandry. As my basement is my next big project (after the bathroom is painted/finished) this is going to be of specific interest to me. []
  8. My sister in law & bro in law live in Freddiesburg!! I'll see what the Doc says.. thanks! I know this tape might be frail, might break, might have all the oxidized stuff already rubbed off of it. If this endeavour doesn't work I can live with it. I can't live with not trying though. So, I gotta give the process an honest effort.
  9. I'm game for you to try it. I can send it overnight next Monday, you'd have it Tuesday???
  10. Buckette... Perhaps there is "no interest" for some cosmic reason?? (insert Twilight Zone music here) [*-)] [*-)] [*-)] [*-)] [*-)]
  11. I realize I can try to find some audio guy here but I thought I'd offer it up on the forum first. During my recent trip to the Detroit Auto show with my Dad, he brought me something. He brought me a cassette tape. So what you might ask... [] This tape is about 38 years old and probably hasn't been listened to for more than 30 years. So what you might ask [] The tape was made by him. It is probably a bunch of nonsensical stuff like "went to the store today & bought a toy" kind of thing. BUT, what makes it interesting, is... it is the tape he made when in 1969, he took myself (then age 9), Chris Wynn (then age 15 and since deceased) to Cape Canaveral and we watched Apollo 11 take off. I don't know if there is 10 minutes of "stuff" on there or 90 minutes. I don't even know if the tape will work. The actual "lift off" was also recorded onto this tape. We were standing quite a ways away with the big crowds and you could just FEEL the earth shake as it lifted off. This is the primary memory still burned in my head. If this recording is worth anything, I'd be real intrigued to hear how it might sound on some Heritage [6] He stumbled onto this tape when cleaning some things out and he immediately realized what it was. He asked me if I could do something with it (copy to cd) and I said bring it to me. Tape is now in my hands. I don't have tape player anymore and thought someone on forum might find it a bit historically interesting to do something like this. What I'm looking for is a simple transfer to a cd (or perhaps 3 cd's...one for me, father and Mr. Wynn who again lost his son a handful years later to a drug overdose) We visited with Mr. Wynn on my trip to Detroit. I'd not seen him in... geez... decades is not the word... I'd say 30 years. He's in his mid 80's and failing health. I told him I'd (somehow) get him a copy of this. This task has now made it to the top of my "to do" list as I really want to get a copy back to Mr. Wynn. I think it would be pretty cool IF his sons voice is on the tape. I'd love for him to hear his son's voice again. Sadly, I have NO idea if his voice is on the tape. I recall very little about it as I was only 9. If we get a volunteer or two... I'll send you the tape, cd's and even a return box (all UPS). All you'd have to do, is the intermediary steps. Thanks and I admit... I'm looking forward to hearing it again myself and more importantly, shipping a copy off to Mr. Wynn. It's become a little mission for me [Y]
  12. You probably know what I'm going to say. I'll say it anyway!! [] In my opinion, buying new (which I DO applaud!!), you left out another option. For a similar price (or perhaps a reasonable amount more) you can make the question do you want LaScala II's or the Jubilee's as opposed to the Khorn. Are you thinking about 5 LaScala/Khorns?? or starting with two? Something to think about... if you can live with the LOOKS of the Jubilee (and for additional price, it can be "finished" from the factory with their stock veneers) then it's a no brainer. The Jubilee was designed to replace the Khorn and frankly, steps all over it.....or at least, the pair I owned. I've never heard a AK-5 Khorn. What I find interesting from a HT perspective is, you could obtain some surround (old style) LaScala boxes and use the Jubilee horn on top, as your upper end for the LaScalas. Meaning, you could run your LaScalas in a 2 way format with the same matched K-402 horn the Jubilee uses. The Jubilee isn't as persnickety as the Khorn, wanting to be tight into a corner and all. It gives you a lot more flexibility of placement. Hard to go wrong with 109 db/w either. Do a search on Jubilee and start reading. You're welcome to PM me, email me or even phone me if you want (I have an 800#). If you go with LaScala II's (which IMHO are a clear improvement over the original's, and I've owned some since 1979) or Khorns, you certainly can't go wrong. I think though, if you heard the Jubilee's, you'd possibly come to the thought that going that route might be more "right". All depends on what you want and "Mr. Budget" of course. If you're near me, you'd be welcome to give them a listen. Heck...even if you are NOT near me, you're welcome to give them a listen... all comes down to how far you want to drive/fly [] []
  13. You might make it clear to the seller that you want it double wrapped so to say, and you are willing to pay the extra expense for that. another idea (I did this when shipping two seperate Academy's) I spent maybe $70 (guess) on the hard 2" foam, bought some U-haul appliance boxes (for TV I think?) and commenced to double wrap a single Academy. The buyer then RETURNED the empty boxing back to me and we used it again. This cut down a bit on the net packaging price as we used the single setup twice. In case it crossed your mind, since it was my idea, I paid for the return shipping of the empty box (which cost about the same as shipping it WITH the speaker!!!) Another idea is, on AudioKarma, they have a section "pony express" or something like that, where people who are driving from A-B might be able to take it for fellow members. I needed 3 Heresy's brought from Indianapolis to Knoxville and by happenstance, had two in Knoxville that needed to go to Indy. I had two people offer to bring the ones from Indy to Knoxville but they weren't going to be making their trip until March. As it was, I ended up going to Detroit so I was able to make the delivery myself. None the less, it's certainly a rock worth looking under. You never know who's going where & when. If you're lucky, perhaps Ole Buckette will personally deliver them in his Porsche... [au]................
  14. Only if you want their second best sounding speaker! [:#] [6]
  15. hmm.. seems I can't say the word c h- ink I guess the censors don't know it can be used in a friendly fashion. Ok, I'll have to change it. Ahh... the first DENT in your armor!! The first melting of your ice!! The first opening of your door! sigh...one of them has gotta work []
  16. Ahh... the first ***** in your armor!! [Y]
  17. Amy, can we talk about ear lobes? [:$] [:#] [:$]
  18. Yeah, I could meet up with you, and we could then head down to COYTEE's place, would love to meet you rascals.......EH ! I would have to bring my own music with me, because Coytee has nice speakers, and a lousy ear for music, been trying to set him straight, but I think I'm not getting through, young whippersnappers................ Pffffffffffft... You're going to risk scratching those fine speakers in that funky Porsche? Oh, the indignity...maybe if you get down here we can show you some REAL transportation... []
  19. Just noticed this comment here (sorry). So I'll make some comment. Yes, I really DID like the sound of the SE-OTL's that much. Even my wife who detests my "big ulgy passe' teenager speakers" (LaScalas & Khorns at the time) as well as her sister who hated them just as much, BOTH made independent comments on just how sweet they sounded. My wife was the one who made the final decision between selling the OTL's and the Wright 2A3's I had. I tried to A/B them as honestly as I could with no measuring equipment. The biggest drawback again for me, was the OTL's only had 4 watts and I simply love to listen to it much louder than 4 wpc allows. Now that I'm going 2-way, the system is "loud" when my 2102 meters start hitting & going beyond 1 watt (I know they're not perfect but they're better than nothing for a reference level). Now that I have an idea of watts being used on my 402, I wonder again about those OTL's. I emailed Bruce at Transcendent & gave him a synopsis of my scenario and he actually suggested his next up amp (T-16?? or something like that). I've not gone there yet as I've simply BLOWN "Mr. Budget" out of the water this past year with all the incoming I had (MC-30's, MC-2102 1 year ago, 2 dbx amps and then of course the Jubilees to top it off) I don't want to get into a buying spree right now so I'm just sitting & listening to the plug ugly 'teenager speakers' mated up with what I got. []
  20. Uh...that would be an "or". not to be confused with Bob Orr, unless of course, his last name IS Orr, which, it isn't. []
  21. Duke might have the biggest (never seen them in a side/side). I'd bet that Mike, Ralph, 6foot8, myself and soon to be Bob, have the most plug ugly!! Rigma gets honerable mention (for the 402) []
  22. Uh...Mark dude... go to bed!! My therapist said, although I gotta get a grip on Santa Clause, I'm still ok with the Easter Bunny. []
