I seem to rememeber him posting something about it a few months ago & he raved about. I also remember KH (mobilehomeless) saying some very positive things about this guys work. ---------------- I never said anything about his work quality. Yes, he got the preamp, but he hasn't recieved the amp yet. And now he just found out that it probably won't be until the end of NEXT MONTH before he gets the dumb thing. Like I said, if you want to dump over 500 bucks and wait HALF A YEAR to recieve it, then go for it.
  3. I wouldn't give that jerk the time of day, much less my money! This is the same idiot that my brother (jt1stcav) has been dealing with for the past 4-6 months, just on trying to get his amp after shelling out over 500 bucks. If you feel like giving someone a bunch of money then waiting several months to get something that might not even work, or be the wrong one, go for it. Not to mention that amp looks cheap.

I am collecting NOS tubes for them as well. I understand that they are auto-biasing. - Lee ---------------- Well, it doesn't hurt to ask. That's gonna be one lucky kid when he grows up, Also, thanks for shedding some light in the bias question!]
  5. If I go with the mono blocks, which I probably will, I'll also get one of these little Dared SL-2000 preamps. They are supposed to be very good little units.

Would you be interested in selling them? I also asked this before but never got an answer..... Are these Waves auto-biasing or manual? Just wondering more than anything else.
  7. If it were me, I would tell all four of those broads to hit the road! It would be a cold day in **** before I would let them back in. That's why I don't like that many people, or have that many friends. If it's not their stuff, they don't care what happens to it. To them, it's just stuff that can be replaced.

  10. I've done a little rearranging!! What I have done is move the KG's back so now they're about 6" away from the back wall instead of 3' and toed them in just a hair. I have the subs pushed up against the side walls as far away from the KG's as possible. Here's the results..... The bass has improved dramatically because the KG's are now closer to the wall. The imaging and soundstaging is amazingly good concidering those subs are kinda boxing in the Klipsch. From what I can tell, it seems this little amp is very capable of driving these KG's of mine to very good levels without any compression. Very natural, clean, tight and punchy as all get-out, and completely black between tracks. It's hard to believe that this little Dared amp is blowing away my Aragon amp in every way! I'm listening to Diana Krall's "The Girl In The Other Room" while writing this (regualr CD, not SACD). 11. Shouldn't the first picture and last picture have been switched? Kinda like reading a sentence from the right to the left. I hope he doesn't get a baby hernia!

How different is the KG series from say Heresy or Forte? ---------------- All I know is that depending on what year Cornwalls you have, like the Corn I's, they are 98dB @ 1 watt just like my KG 5.5's, and are bass-reflex loaded like the Corns. So I imagine they would put a similar draw on the same amp. Of course, the Heresy, Forte, and all the older models are better built. I for one am not impressed with the construction of the KG line, no bracing, no solid joints, but oh well. As long as they don't fall apart on me, I'm doing alright! And if they do, I'll just build new enclosures myself, and slot port them.
  13. ---------------- On 5/18/2004 12:15:32 PM sunnysal wrote: power output is exactly what I would be worried about with these little babies, try out your brother´s amps first before making a decisions. remember the waves make less power than the dared (8 watts versus 12) and the KG 5.5´s 98db efficiency is right where I might say "not enough power"...of course it all depends on your room, the music you like to listen to and what volumes you enjoy BUT...an EL34 based amp that put out closer to 30 watts per channel would be a safer bet with those speakers, IMHO. tony ---------------- That's exactly what I was thinking. In fact, I've got that Dared playing in here right now and must say it can get pretty loud. No, I am not pushing it at all. The volume is where my brother put it, which is at the 12 o' clock position. I have my CD player piped directly into it and it sounds pretty darn good. Dare(d) I say it even sounds better than the Aragon?!?! Anyway, I've also been looking at the new AV-20 DT mono blocks that ASL offers now. They produce 20 watts each which I think would do fine, since this 12 watt Dared is doing this good so far. I have to admit, these new amps are a little better looking as well. However, I just noticed something on their site. Here's the link, look at the specs and please tell me those frequency response ratings are just a type-o.... http://www.divertech.com/aslwaveav20dt.htm
  14. This reminds me of when I had the Cornwalls and MY Mcintosh MC250 hooked up together. At first, I naturally had them hooked up to the 8 ohm taps. Then after doing some reading online, I heard people suggest hooking them up to the 4 ohm taps. To make a long story short, I left it that way for the rest of the time. The bass was better sounding (not sure about deeper bass or more bass though), the mids were fuller, and the treble was smoother and warmer. Overall, that MC250 really started to sound like a real tube amp when wired into the 4 ohm taps. One other thing I remembered is that it ran cooler using the 4 ohm taps as well. BTW, reading those two posts of mdeneen's made me feel like I was listening to my dad talk when I ask him how tubes and such work and why.
  15. Well, for starters, I need to sell the Aragon in order to have the money to buy another amp. I know it stinks to do it that way, but I don't have much of a choice. However, to help me with my decision, my other brother is going to let me barrow his Dared 12 watt tube integrated amp for a couple days (hopefully today since I'm off) to see how it sounds in my system. I'm just hoping I can still play the system loud enough to enjoy it. One question though..... Are those Wave 8's or the new AV-20's auto-biasing or do you have to set it yourself? Either way it's not a big deal, since I do know how to set the bias.
  16. I am very seriously thinking about getting a pair of these for my Klipsch. I've already got my Aragon 2004 Mk II up for sale on AudioGon.... http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1090032493 I know Colin did a review on the Wave 8's a while back and he really liked them. I was just wanting to hear everyone elses views on these little amps since it seems that 90% of the members here own tube gear. There's a few other tube amps that caught my eye for right around $500-$700. Some of them even using a quad set of KT-88s, or some EL34s. Any thoughts or suggestions? BTW, I am wanting to stay away from vintage tube gear just because.

Rocket 88 I personally don't think so. Craig ---------------- To each his own I guess. Personally, I would take a Rocket 88 over an MC240 any day of the week, even if it is 10 watts less power. Given the fact that the Cary is new, better built, uses better up-to-date components, looks better, and most of all, is a lot more versatile with the wide range of output tubes you can use (KT88, KT90, KT100, EL34, 6550, or 6L6), upgradable power cord, heavy duty gold plated RCAs and speaker terminals, AND is switchable from Triode Mode to Ultra-Linear, providing 60 watts p/c. Yeah, I think I'm sticking with Cary. But like I said, to each his own.
  18. I would say no more than $1200-1500. If he doesn't go for that, then oh well. $2000 is just way too much for that. Honestly, for $2000, I would say the heck with that old thing and go with something from Cary. You can find a nice Rocket 88 or V12 used for that much, and end up with a much better piece of equipment.
  19. A nice open space like that, I'm sure it gives those Cornwalls (all five of them!)and SVS's plenty of room to breathe. I wish my room was that big.
  20. Even in my very early teens, (10-12), I was taking old speakers apart and modifying them in an attempt to improve the sound of them. Or I simply built my own. Either way, I've always realizes and loved music right from the beginning. Like I stated on another thread, I was literally born into music and stereo equipment.
  21. Yeah, so. I've had a dedicated PC for mp3 playback on my stereo for several years now, and it cost me under 100 bucks!

The only thing the size of a room does is determind what frequencies your room modes will be at. If a room being too small was the case, then you wouldn't get any bass below 100Hz in a car, or ANYTHING below like 1000Hz with headphones!
  23. Does anyone know what these are? I've never seen these before. Since I'm not interested in buying them, I didn't want to bother the seller with a useless question. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5700081858&rd=1
  24. I'm glad to hear your mother's and everyone else is doing much better now!
