  1. I would really like to see that painting in person again someday, probably more than any other work. It was still in NYC in the 70s before being returned to Spain per PP's instructions. Massive, as a teenager it took my breath away after turning the corner. After seeing it and learning more about it, his message was perfectly clear.
  2. Good call, thanks for the guidance, I didn't see the need to discuss it further other than what was the view, history at the time.
  3. Now there is a moderator who sounds like he has a pair, of 402's on top of hugh bass bins. Way to make a call Detel. No ambiguity, no cheeky comments, just straight forward coon As s common sense.
  4. They used to be the Indians in his day. They were when I was a kid. So that would probably be another subject that PMK would weigh in on, whether they should have changed their name.
  5. I think putting political thoughts in writing and defending important positions VERY beneficial to keeping a record between debaters and posters honest...That said, I wouldn't have gotten involved in that thread if the first post wasn't so obviously political and sometimes I can't help but give a second opinion. Precisely, no one else can help themselves either, which is presumably why they are not allowed.
  6. What Klispch seems to forget is that this generation that so avidly supports their products was steeped in freedom of speech and expressed frank, diverse and strident opinions. We fought that war in Viet Nam in the jungles AND in the streets of this country. Every member here merits deeper respect than Klipsch seems willing to offer. Whether intentional or not - this petulant corralling is a bit of an affront. Yes, Klipsch has earned our loyalty with their products - but does Klipsch respect or even understand the character of this select customer base? Treating us like children at recess is not very respectful - with all due regard. Humanity grows from debate whether intellectual or confrontational. We all now know not to look for that here on these forums and Klipsch is losing some of the best of us for being so myopic. I do wonder how Paul Klipsch would feel. I would ask The Chief Bonehead, or Dr. Hunter. I have only seen one reference to politics and PMK, when he dispelled the myth that he developed the LS for the the gungubernatorial campaogn me mentioned that the kidded the candidate after he lost the election and said things might have turned differently if he had used his speakers. One think for sure, if PMK was on this forum you couldn't make some flippant remark and not expect your *** to be handed to you. If you have read his interviews, especially the Bruce Edgar one recently reposted, he had citations in hand from peer reviewed journals and other publications. My thinking is that there would be a whole lot more question asking, and a lot less people makeing statements about what was in the news. It would be focused on audio, speaker design, FM midulation, railroads, Chile, ballastics, oil and gas exploration and why The Cardinal was going to beat Cal next season and would be in the Rose Bowl. So ignore the rules? Renegotiate the rules. Debate over the the war you mention was in the streets, the schools, the cities, and it was protected by the 1st Amendment, speech here isn't protected, nor is it at your place of employment. As I mentiobed before, I think they should bring back that hidden forum where politics could be discussed because it appears so many people need an outlet apparently cannot control themselves. Travis
  7. Chris, What is the best live performance of that piece that you have heard, which venue? Is it possible to articulate the one performance over the other?
  8. I don't think Clinton did, he and his family moved from Hope to Hot Springs at about the second grade.
  9. Quite a testimony, I knew you had a lot going on, back pain, etc, but that is quite a load. I give a sh*t, I feel confident most people do as well. This is why when I initially responded to this post by Mike, I thought it would be better if Moderators would point out the offensive posts, if someone is antagonizing someone else they can be called on it. I made light of you and Craig going at it and selling tickets, for that I appologize. No idea what either of you have been through individually, what if any issues there are between you, and if you two are serious half the time or not. It is none of my business, and I am certainly not the judge of either of you, or anyone else for that matter. But you have obviously identified something as evidenced in your post, that is typically half the battle. Some people never identify it and they move on, by choice or otherwise. As far as your posterior, sure you can do something, just turn the other cheek.
  10. I don't believe their were any personal attacks in the Baltimore, baseball thread. The original post had political and racial overtones from the original post. I am not saying that anything was intentionally by the post, but there was only one direction it could go. Well how could a post about the fact that spectators were not allowed to attend a game because of safety be political? Well it was the 3 or 4 questions following the news flash about the baseball game score, such as whether the mother who grabbed her son who was "attempting to loot" a hero or not? Someone pointed out on the first page that the post had no where to go but political. Then there was some discussion that it wasn't the intent, but rather was an invitation for friendly discourse amongst "family." From there it went to the mother had six kids out of wedlock, corruption in Baltimore, and we were off, me included, just like the Preakness. EVERYONE in that thread talked about politics, political philosophy, the left, the right. WVU, I appreciate the fact that yoi wished it had stayed on topic so it wouldn't get deleted, but you sure were willing to discuss politics and pointed out the reason WV, with its four electoral votes went Republican and cost Gore the election. If the rule is that politics and racial discussions should be are out then that thread should have been killed the first day. A moderator was in that thread this morning and gave a friendly reminder not to use the names of particular elected office holders as being too political. Never mind the previous 15 or so pages contained discussions about political ideology, media's influence, and specific sociatial issues and where people come down on them. Again, not one personal attack, but that's mot really the issue is it? Chad has pinned a reminder at the top, NO POLITICS NO RELIGION. Just like Thanksgiving at my parent's house, well we do pray and give thanks before eating, but that is another story. This group can't talk about gas prices or the tooth fairy without bringing politics into the discussion. Why would it be any different about Baltimore? Moderators, moderate. It is a tough job, but we are counting on you, because no corporation can allow politics, race, religion or sexual orientation to be a part of their official forums. If you don't do your jobs, this forum is gone. Moderators are like referees or umpires, people want someone who is even handed, fair, UNBIASED, amd wolling to make a call. Don't second guess yourselves, don't make apologies, and you do not need to explain your decision. Just call it, "I am/we are shutting this down because it is political." Did you notice that no one disagreed that the thread was political. They knew it from day one. Good referees are able to make calls without regard to whether they are popular or not, without second guessing themselves, and knowing going in that some will agree and some will disagree. It is difficult because it is human nature to want to be loved, liked, or popular. If you are a moderator and you need love, buy a dog or a kitten. Here are some buzz words to look for that a post just might be political other than an elected official's last name in it. Liberal, conservative, right wing or left wing (unless they are talking about sports), far right, far left, socialism, communism, democrat or republican (upper and lower case), POTUS, election, debate, vote, voters, primary. Moderators didn't make the rules, they are here to fairly enforce them.
  11. Wireless headphones, with tube amplification, with vinyl or reel to reel as a source was what I thought the last poll said.
  12. So you are saying the fall was a good thing?I'm not saying its good or bad, I'm just saying that depicting animals eating each other before the fall is theologically incorrect.Thelogically, there isn't agreement on this. Genesis 1:29 is debated and there are views on both sides. yes there is ... and I've only met one other person that shared my view. There are a lot more than just the two of you on that view. The standard Commentaries I have read seem split. It is a central issue with "Old Earth" vs "Young Earth" theologians. I feel pretty confident that the view at the time of that painting would have been man didn't eat meat before the fall. It also predated the kick ofF of the Reformation by about 15 years, so I don't thinking he is commenting on The Church. I think he is just giving his view of what the orthodoxy was at the time, and details about eating meat were not in his thought process. It was filler. But then again, why would he go to the trouble to paint in the few small instances of it, and if it was intentional commentary, what was he trying to say? "He don't eat meat? He don't eat meat! That's ok, I'll cook a lamb."
  13. So you are saying the fall was a good thing?I'm not saying its good or bad, I'm just saying that depicting animals eating each other before the fall is theologically incorrect. Thelogically, there isn't agreement on this. Genesis 1:29 is debated and there are views on both sides. There are, however, Age of Innocence myths common among many ethnic groups where there man didn't eat meat. Ovid's, The Metamorphosis for example.
  14. I read all of Casteneda, starting out as a high school assignment. Hard to picture him being prevalent around Hope, that must have been cool. Was there a place you all got together? Dry county, I can't picture a coffee bar there either.
  15. It is a thrill to read those each and every time. Did anyone else have trouble opening the Rolling Stone one? Travis
  16. That is crazy, it seems to be an off-hand of saying the person you report to holds you accountable. Why was he upset about that? Pretty nice way of demonstrating to the boss that that the Big Stew Man Rule was unworkable. It also reveals how in many organizations if you have a way of getting things done, you end up getting everyone's job done. Put yourself down for a raise.
  17. I think you are right. But it may be too late. Their pension plan is seriously under funded. http://www.njspotlight.com/stories/15/03/01/should-the-state-offload-teacher-retirement-benefits-onto-local-school-districts/
  18. I always liked this reaction to what had to be some piece of thought provoking fine art. https://youtu.be/RV7Qz640OeM
  19. He was certainly the master of satire. The center panel depicts so many taboo subjects for that time, miscegenation, sodomy, same-sex relationships, etc. The center panel was always the most thought provoking to me. Is he suggesting this is the paradise on Earth if there had been no bite of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge? Or is it depicting the moral decay because of it? Fendi had to most certainly have been influenced by him. Travis
  20. Here is another list I have seen over the years: "T.H.I.N.K. before speaking... Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? If not...probably best to keep your mouth shut." This is a link to a discussion on the accroyacronym in Inc. magazine. http://www.inc.com/lee-colan/think-before-youspeak.html http://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/think-before-you-speak--sermon-body-larry-wilson-sermon-on-tongue-159447.asp. A website discussing the acronym with biblical citations is support thereof.
  21. This study by the Peabody Institue and the associated book it generated should be of interest and encouragement to you on home schooling. http://news.vanderbilt.edu/2012/11/homeschooling/
  22. Now remember that my mother is a retired 1st grade teacher with her doctorate in education and a masters in guidance counseling and my father is a retired school superintendent of the second highest operating budget double AA School system in the state at the time and past president of the County board of education. Roger Roger, In my book, people like your parents are the real heros of this country. I wonder what their view would be on issues like charter schools, vouchers, mamdatory minimum skills assessment tests, etc. I wonder is they have differing views on some of these issues, on being an administrator, one being a teacher? Travis
  23. It is understandable why you feel that way, I think many reasonable people here maybe feel the same way and, from what I read, part of the reason for Mike's post. Which makes it one of the saddest posts I have read on this forum.
