  1. for movies I have it plenty loud- same amount of excursion as music- actually more cone movement in movies. I just ran a sin sweep from 10hz to 100hz- there no problem with the driver. a couple of rattles from the amp plate but no problems with the driver. has to be the music and/or amp clipping. for DVD music in movies its fine. and no the wire is not banging the back of the cone. the basket is like 12-16 spoke- no way the wire can get threw that. besides I already have opened it up before after playing and the wire never was out of place.

    BOSE=BLOSE-

I decided that I would ask bose some technical questions about there crapst... I mean lifestyle system. heres what I wrote and heres what they told me- just what I had expected, not a DAM THING!!! BLOSE: ****To reply to this message, please select the reply button. To help us expedite your inquiry, please be sure to include our original response.****** Dear Jon, Thank you for your inquiry. Bose® Corporation does not publish these specifications. The reason for this is that we believe that such statistics do not add very much to an understanding of an audio product's acoustic characteristics and, even worse, can be misleading. Audio manufacturers make these measurements independent of industry standards, and in varying conditions. Additionally, a single statistic is not a reliable measurement of a product's performance. One could, for instance, find a very expensive system with exactly the same specifications as a much less expensive system. On paper, the two would appear identical. The difference in performance, however, would be significant. A better approach, we feel, is to listen to the product. We strongly urge you to make your own comparisons. Bose systems will surpass your expectations. I will not buy it unless I know this info(and I plan to buy directly from this site). what is the high frequency cutoff for the sub in hz? and you say "...pure sound reproduction down to the lowest frequencies, even at the loudest levels..." what is the lowest freq in hz? and how loud will the sub play in room like a 15x15 ft room- not the speakers, just the sub.tell me this in db because thats a true measurement. how much power is the amp on the bass module? are Bose bass modules really efficient so that the amp is smaller? I need to know what you think about the lifestyle sub compared to 12 and 15inch driver subs. will those 12 and 15 inch drivers keep up with that bose module. thanks BLOSE obviously doesn't know what there talking about! what DUMBA$$E$. "specs don't show much"- well they sure as hell do. they say the environment is not a standard. ****, I asked for the amp wt rating on that POS sub- why not tell me? does the environment affect it. He avoids the questions because he knows himself that BOSE it crap. SPREAD THE WORD,BOSE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyone else ever get these crap answers? or other funny/dumb experiences with BLO$E. scp53
  3. Im 99.9 percent sure its the amp clipping. because the driver is not bottoming and everything else is fine.
  4. no the sub is not bottoming. because it moves the same for movies and music- making no bad sounds for movies and this other sound for music. and no the volume is not set on max. usually its between 1/4 and 1/2 on the sub amp. I asked this same question on another board(PE board)- they said that some cds are being burned "hotter(louder)" and this may cause it to clip. maybe this is the problem? and you said "crackling sound"- no its no crackling sound. thats for sure. all I know is it happens on music and not movies even at the same excursion(I watch the driver move-same for both)
  5. so I got this titanic kit sub(250wt 10" mk3 sub). have played it many times quite loud(not overwhelming the driver/amp though) for HT(lord of the rings-the last 2 ones, matrix reloaded and revolution, and pearl harbor.). sounds sooooo good. tight and controled. no bad sounds. then you play music on it and on hard hits(just as much excursion as theater) at higher volumes the sub makes a coning sound. not a sound from it trying to play the music- just the sound of the cone moving and switch direction quickly. and its only for certain music. I play Linkin Park Meteora and it sounds fine at any volume. but on some other cds, I have to play the mains louder to cover up the sound- and even then it doesn't help always. could a sub play excellent for theater and suck at music? I mean I've played it before and thought it was fine for music- maybe Ive naturally wanted it louder. Is it possible that its the amp-because after one song(bass-to bass heavy) loud its hotter than a 3 min bass scene in a movie. and no its not from its placment. I ve had it 3 different spots- one upstairs and two in the basement. same crap cone movement sound. I even pulled the driver to check if its ok. looks fine to me. no torn suspension anywhere and the cone moves fine when pushed be hand(lightly on the dustcap). Ive been so happy with it and now I have probablems . another note about the sound- the crossover setting seams to make little difference. the sound is there regardless of its setting and could the cone need to be broken in more, Ive had it for a weel or so. and the last question- do subs like a rsw or other subs of the like make little sounds when the mains are turned off? or do you hear PERFECT BASS when those subs are cranked? no cone sound movement, etc? thanks in advance. sorry I was son long winded scp53 JON note: today- after I tested it on a movie upstairs- I was carrying back down to the basement when I slipped and slide on my back all the way down. I was really f@$#ing lucking that nothing was broken(on me,the house, or the sub). OMG did it scare me. if I would have let the little thing(14"x14x14) roll- it could have really took out the wall because it weighs 50lbs. but Ive walked up and down that stairs before with it no problemo.I quickly checked the driver and amp physically and by playing it- sounds the same. clumsy me. I really need to pay attention when handleing expensive things(I payed 350)
  6. I need to get me one of those. probably a silver one. pretty cheap and VERY compact. is that silver one just for a couch or chair? or could it be used for the whole room? i mean for two chairs or a chair and couch? and do you have to eq them(like a sub has crossover adustment)- would there be any point- or will a standard 100x 2 stereo receiver do the trick- by just splitting the sub signal off to the receiver. hopefully someone will be able to tell us how well they work scp53
  7. HSU is a company that makes subs only, for the most part. there website is hsuresearch.com Ive heard some very good things about them. for a sub that you want- consider the stf-2. it is 400 direct from HSU right on there site. its marked down from 500 and is 10" and 200 wt. Im sure that its comparable to the klipsch ksw subs. and it has a MUCH better warrenty:7 years on the woofer, 2 years on the electronics, parts and labor included. i think the klipsch is like 2-3 yr. if you have any detailed ? go to hsu's message board. theres a link right on the home page. as for those silver ones at that website- do you think there a authorized dealer? it seams like to good of a deal to be true- 5 sats and a ksw 10? no way they could sell it under 400! and besides- if you get it & use it a while and something goes wrong, bb will probably take better care of you than that website will. (but I don't think BB has very good cust. service either) I thought that the Heritage/KSW series was better than the Reference/RSW series. Is that the case? did you mean sw instead of ksw? because the rw/rsw subs are for sure better than the synergy subs-the ksw10 and ksw12. good luck scp53
  8. where do you plan to buy them if you don't buy from BB.com? the least you should do is buy the ksw 10 or 12. If you could afford it, go with the 12. Ive never heard the ksw's really, only the rw/rsw's. I m sure it is fine- either the 10 or 12. you probably should quickly go to a store and listen to one. see if you like it. and yes the quintets are equal to promedia stuff-easily. the 5.1 quintets alone are 400 reg price. and the 5.1 ultras are 400 and thats with a sub and amp. so these are superior to the ultras satilites. would you ever consider a different sub? like HSU? you can get 100 off if you buy a sub directly from them. goodluck scp53
  9. that is a good deal! I just dropped money into a sub so I can't jump on this deal. I bought some very good condition sb-3's that were floor models. and they just had some cosmetic blemishes to the cab. those guys at that store(fs appliance) take good care of stuff. they don't let anyone just walk in there and start using stuff. and then you go in a BB store and everything in the audio section is cranked and damaged. any way. I wish I would have waited. I paid 365 for the sb3s and now BB has them on sale for less than 350! and there brand new! oh well. I guess I ve used mine a lot. besides, If i waited for the best deal all the time Id be waiting for ever. i hope someone sees your message and jumps on those speakers. one guy posted about silver quintets and where to buy them. I recommend BB web site(and no i found it myself, not from this post you started .)
  10. I looked at the specs at the KLF 30's you have-those are dam nice speakers. I m almost positive that the rw 12 wouldn't keep up with those big towers. actually I know it wouldn't. you ask what DIY/kit would be equal to the rsw 12 or 15- I think your talking spl output right, but quality still obviously. go to partsexpress.com. they have the titanic kits and they also offer many good seperate drivers. they have a message board and many recommend the dayton DVC 12 or 15 inch. they said it has loud slammin bass and good quality. if cosmetics arn't a big priority then it should add up to: 15" DVC dual vc-350wt rms coil, ea coil 8ohm-----$132.50 amp-500watt rms- many, many featues. alot better than 500 wt amps on consumer subs at audio stores-------------------------$around 300.00 cab,grill,port(s),foam,etc-------------------$25-100 so anywhere from 450 to 550 you could build one based on this driver. but I ll tell you that the cab is on the large side. bigger than a rsw 12 for sure. is your room on a cement floor or is it off the "ground". trust me, this makes a big difference. my titanic really lacks the feeling in my basement. but in other rooms off the cement floor it is really good. shakes well. i shouldn't say mine doesn't shake a cement floor- it does a little at very high excursions, and you have to be in a piece of furniture to feel it. so depending on this may determine how big of sub you want. is 450 your limit on a diy project? if you could spend around 600-650 go get the titanic 15 inch kit. has a kilowatt(rms) amp and weighs a ton for its size. I would think it be plenty for you. as long as your not a REAL BIG bass head. this 15 would give you tight control and high spl output. I don't think as good as a rsw15 because that has a passive radiator. but im sure they would be close. im no pro at this stuff, Im just giving you some ideas... scp53
  11. I have found the quintets at bestbuys web site. but there not the grey/silver ones. and there only 300 for the pair! thats not to bad of a deal. and the sub is 300 instead of 400. better jump on this right now if it is really what you want. would you ever consider going to a bookshelf system. it will give you lower output/play louder generally/fuller sound/etc. I would recommend the klipsch sb-1's or 2's and matching center. but thats going to be more $$. but if your hooked on the quintets by the ones at bb RIGHT NOW! there the same as the silver ones. just black. by the way- how big is your room? if its med to small the quintets should be ok. its for larger rooms that you'll want bookshelf's or bigger.
  12. Kenstr, I m sure you'll be happy with either. I ve never heard the 5's but I have heard the 7's. they 7's sound great so the 5's shouldn't be much far behind. go with the 5's because there on a deal right now. that money you save could be used for other components/speakers/etc. I think someone else will come along who has heard both side by side. they are the ones that can truly tell you the difference- 5's vs 7's. goodluck scp53
  13. I have never seen ANYTHING that looked so wickedly cool. WOW. I just looked at speaker pics real quick. some of those would be a real I catcher- and id like to hear if they sound as good as they look. thanks for showing us this site... by the way- I don't know I a lot about amps and which sounds best so I have no comment on what he has built. well I guess I haven't had time to read it all yet either. scp53
  14. just wondering- is the klipsch power rating a thermal rating or mechanical rating? I always thought it was thermal like most other manufacturers use. can I run my klipsch sb 3's over 100 watts of continuous power if I don't over excert the driver-8" bass driver?? to answer your ? IMO, ultimately, it comes down to how far you are excerting the driver- I can excert my klipsch sb3's well over there limit(but im VERY carefull and never have) if the bass is turned up- and there isn't even that much watts going to them- but thats for certain songs. 99.9% of what I play the klipsch handle it regardless of receiver settings. someone said that they have ref floor standers for surrounds- do you have the bass managment turned down on them?? seriously, theres no way you could give those 125 wt speakers(or what ever they are) around 200- 250 wts conts. have you actually pulled out a tester of some sort to see whats actually going to those speakers? maybe im wrong?? hoping for some feed back into my ?, and i don't mean to hi jack this thread either. just thought my ? were similar to what was asked scp53
  15. marcelin , the kg 4's are going to be better in some respects just by looking at the specs. the kg4s handle 100 wt conts and the 2's only 65 wts conts. of course this is thermal continuous handeling but it still matters. and the sensitivity is about 4db higher than the kg2's. 4db is going to be noticable. id go with the kg 4's vs the kg 2's even though I ve never heard them by the way- what does the "ICG" in the product description mean. is it injected carbon graphite or something like that?? I know the newer synergy pair that I have is img cone. that stands for injected medium/molded/? graphite- I think. thanks, I hope im not hijacking this thread. scp53
  16. I ve read in a consumer electronics guide book or something like that(no I don't beleive a lot of crap and reviews that can come from these-by the way I was just killing some time, I don't normally look at them) and read that a new klipsch 6.1 is coming out this summer or fall. is this true? its supposed to be a full system - "just add video". it comes with 6 speakers and a 300 watt powered sub(looked like 2 x 8" drivers or 2 10"-and I think it said it was ported). the klipsch branded receiver puts out 100 watts x 6 channels. and its THX certified. im not sure if it came with a DVD player or what- I can't remember. maybe someone could tell me more about it- but don't think that Im interested in buying it- I already have a decent 2.1 stereo and full 4.1(I wish 5.1 though) if i combine my equipment. just curious about a new klipsch product... thanks scp53
  17. Billiardicus , welcome to the forum. and congradulations on finding what real speakers are. for cables don't buy cheap stuff but don't buy audiophile grade stuff either because it is usually well into the hundreds for a pair of speaker cables, etc. i've never have used anything higher than average monstercable for av hook up and speakers. but then again I just have synergy speakers, receiver, and a dvd player. and as for components Ive heard many times, from different forum members, that separates are going to get the most out of the RF-7's. I guess Im just reinforcing whats been said above... good luck scp53
  18. colterphoto1, you meant rsw 15? not rw 15 because that doesn't exist. just making a correction
  19. sickpuppy, wow, omg, holy f#$@ing sh@t. that is one hell of a sub. do you know if it had flat response? how low could it go-freq wise? I should get one but I don't know if my tv and other speakers would stay fuctioning(because of power consumption of sub and huge spl out put)! hum... i think I ll stick with my small 10 inch titanic sub which is very tight. I doubt that the 5 foot driver would be able to play tight bass at all. unless the motor struction had good control over it. but still thats a lot of cone to move back and forth quickly & percisly(p e r ...?).
  20. sorry, I forgot to put line dashes around what you said when I replied. I just copied your message into my reply box. oh well. I just read that the sw 15 went for 2000 cdn just a decade ago. and if you could get one cheap that be the way to go.
  21. Well I am still not having much luck finding a sub. Anyone have a large powerful sub for sale? I am going to listen to an RW-12 on in 2 days. Its brand new but has a blemish on the cabine and they are willing to sell for $600 CDN. I'm thinking that sounds pretty good. Like I had mentioned I preferred to purchase a SW-15 before the RW-12. After comparing the specs the RW-12 blows away the SW-15 as far as specs go. Shouldn't this tell me that the RW-12 would sound better? Do these number comparisons show an honest advantage? I've heard the SW-15 and if the RW-12 is better than that it might keep me satisfied. FREQUENCY RESPONSE: SW-15 - 27Hz-120Hz3dB vs RW-12 - 21-120Hz 3dB MAX ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: SW-15 - 110dB SPL vs. RW-12 - 113dB @ 30Hz 1/8 space, 1 meter AMPLIFIER POWER: SW-15 - 200 watts maximum continuous(252 watts peak) vs. RW-12 - 340 watts continuous @ <2% THD / Dynamic Power*: 825 watts Jonathan I just got my new driver back 4 days ago. the bass on this sub is very impressive. it is so tight- keeps up with tight bass songs and you can hear and feel each beat distictivly(spelling?? d i s...). there's also 2 other models that Im sure would blow your mind in quality and ouput- excpecially for the price. I only have the 10 and am VERY impressed. it handles lord of the rings and pearl harbor well in my 16 by 18 foot room. and im not corner loading it and am 13 feet away from it. it has some REALLY GOOD shaking ability for rooms that don't have a cement floor- this is no BS, yes a 10inch fully sealed sub can shake. on to your questions. is that blemished rw 12 a good deal?: well what is 600 cdn in us dollars? I know that in the us it goes for like 650 or so. shouldn't specs tell which on is better? The numbers mean something but you shouldn't go just by that. the drivers in each sub could have different efficiency ratings so the rw 12 may need more power at a given volume vs the sw 15. or vise versa. also that power is head room for the rw 12. its not all really usable. I doubt it will ever get up to 700 -800 watt range. one thing I am positive on even though Ive never heard a sw 15 is that it will have less if no distortion when compared to the rw 12. I've listened to the rw 10 and 12 but never at high volumes. but some people on this board say that the rw series has a lot of port turbulence/distortion at high volumes. so that 113 db is not usable because of the port distorton unless you don't mind it. a few other things to think about: the specs on the sw15 say 110 db but don't say how far you are from it, is it corner loaded, etc. the rw 12 specs show 1/8 space which means it loaded in a corner and at on meter. and your not going to be one meter from it so thats not usable. im sure that the sw 15 isn't corner loaded because it doesn't say so. but im sure its at one meter because thats a standard of taking spl spec readings(at least I think it is, all the specs of subs I see from other companies are at one meter if they list the spl, why not this one.)so id reccomend the sw 15 over the rw 12. it will run cooler and for SURE have less/none distortion. note:when you look at subs or any speakers for that matter, what really matters is db output if you want it loud. don't bother with the watts generally speaking unless there is no max spl stated. but maybe you still might want to consider a diy sub.you can save a lot of money and get a lot better performance. this sub I got will match subs twice or even three times its price(at least sound quality wise. for example: I know some one that has a infinity reference sub-1200-1500 dollars- said the titanic beats his sub definatly in quality. but again some of that is opinion). oh by the way, I like your name. thats my name too. except usually I just go by Jon. good luck on your choice. Jon
  22. I second zealot's opinion. I stated earlier in the thread looking at weight. that cht 12 looks like a very good sub spec wise. whats a price on that?
  23. does that KSW12 play pretty well(clean/tight/flat freq response/spl output/etc)? I ve listened to klipsch reference subs but never sat down and listened to either of the two synergies that are still being made- the KSW 10 and 12. I would have been interested in it except I already just bought a Titanic mk3 10"/250 wt. best of luck selling it here. Im sure someone will be interested in it. just curious- why are you selling it? what are you going to move up to? a Klipsch Reference sub? SVS? scp53
  24. I found the leak of my sub- it was right under the seal. I ll quickly explain for those that want to know more specifics. the rubber seal covers both sides of the woofer rim- but the top part really doesn't serve a purpose except to hide the frame rim. so you'd think it seal well- wrong. there is a slight gap between the top rubber seal and the top side of the woofer frame. the air would leak from a few screw holes and exit and enter through this gap. any way... I m VERY HAPPY to have it solved. wow, holy sh@t, this thing has huge bass with NOT ONE bit of distortion. it really is unbelivable. oh yea, and today I watched the matrix- it was quite impressive. usually I keep the volume down(on the sub, not the mains and surr speakers) because of the air problem, but know I can turn it up more . just thought I d share my great success story ps: don't let my few problems/headaches make this not a consideration. I think it was just my bad luck. once its set up correctly the sound is COMPLETLY DISTORTION free- no cone sound or any other distortion- only distortion is the pictures that fall off the wall during a movie just kidding. I havent had it cranked yet but I don't think its that powerful. only something like an SVS can do that. mine only vibrates/resonates things. scp53
