  1. Neo! How did you do this? How did you manage to distort reality so? For a brief moment I thought I was reading the thread 'To SET or not to SET'! Then I realised, I wasn't. At least I think I wasn't. You are very adept at manipulating the Matrix, Neo. I'm wondering about this amorphous figure I've seen during my internal battle. I think it's you Neo! Wielding that SET powered light sabre. Are you the Oracle?
  2. Yeah it would. I just read in that Shorthorn thread a comment about some lack of QC at times. A few years ago my first Klipsch speakers, a pair of KG5.5's started buzzing from the back. I rang Klipsch and they told me to take the drivers out and look inside the cabinet. I did and found that the back cabinets weren't glued in like they should be. A hot glue gun fixed that and no trouble after for a couple of years when I traded them on KLF10's. Maybe you could access the cabinet via the side panel and rectify the problem if it bothers you? I know how you feel though and I know how much you would have paid.
  3. That's a bit of bad luck, Consistent. I'm surprised the cabinet makers would have missed that. I'd be surprised though if there was any adverse effect on the sound.
  4. Welcome to the Forum. You have an enviable background. Fancy having met PWK! Your system looks great. But let me look into my crystal ball.... Yes, I can see a pair of Klipschorns in your future! You lucky person, you.

Your timing is impeccable. You see this battle is raging inside me. I'm being dragged into the Dark Side. I'm kicking and screaming, fighting with all my strength but..... He's calling me..... It's the SET monster! I'm being called by the SET monster! Beckoned into the unknown by an amorphous creature wielding a 3.5 watt light sabre! How do you fight such a creature? What do I do? Paul, help me! I'm losing my..............

And worse is to come. I'm dreading the countdown to the 9/11 anniversary. The morning of this tragedy I woke up to the news on the radio. This was also the morning of my wedding day. But here in Australia the date was actually 9/12. Each wedding anniversary my wife and I celebrate, we will also be offering a prayer to those poor souls who had their lives taken by those murdering b*******.
  8. When my brother was 2 years old he used to like playing with his red truck that he got for Christmas. In fact he wouldn't be parted from it. He'd sit on the floor and say, truck, truck, truck, truck as he pushed the toy around on the floor. The only problem is, he couldn't pronounce the 'tr' part of truck very well at all! Instead substituting 'f' for the 'tr'!!! Needless to say my brother was the source of much embarresment when we had visitors!

A "worthy" thread will take on it's own identity, and be carried forward, even if it is in multiple divergent directions. The whole idea of keeping a thread "pure" as far as it's original topic content is concerned is in itself self-limiting and rather pointless, or maybe it's pointilistic? ---------------- Their is no suched word as flucked. And pointilistic? Get reel!

A useful thread to resurrect given other threads running at the moment.

Edwin, keep checking back with my "Matrix" and soon you will see pictures of my 2-channel system. The photography will be stunning (better then that of Chops, Jim, edster, fini and jorjens) . ---------------- I can hardly breath with the anticipation.
  12. Congratulations on your Klipschorn twins. You must be a very proud parent! I agree with everyone else. Enjoy the sound for a while. You will agree how good the Khorns sound just slotted into place - contrary to what you might expect. After nearly two months of Klipschorn ownership, I still haven't done any serious finetuning. I'm still thinking about and enjoying the idea of the tweaks I'm going to do.

I can not say if it was due to the thickness of the wood or what, but they did roll off. Edit: Now that I think about it, the unit I tested had the "corner" come out even with the edge of the khorn. PWK suggested that the corner be 4 ft to each side. With the corner being the "mouth" of the horn, making it smaller / shorter would change the low freqency cutoff. ---------------- That makes a lot of sense. The stuff I've been reading about horns and corner loading suggests you need a proper corner whether false or not, i.e. the side walls would have to extend well out from the Klipschorn. Because the corner does in fact form part of the horn mouth. That's why the Klipschorns work so well from such an apparently small folded bass horn design. The folded bass horn is in fact not small at all - because the room corners are really part of PWK's original design. He supplies the mid and treble horn package and part of the folded horn component - we supply the rest. (appologies to those in the forum who already know this!)
  14. Jazman, thanks for posting that picture. I was just going to get on and ask someone to do that. It's funny, but seeing that picture has promoted a deep desire in me to upgrade to a pair of Moondogs.... even though I'm a current PP fan. So that's what the upgrade thing is all about, I can't fight it, I see, I hear, I want! I think it's primeval (if that's the right term).
  15. I thought most Bose products were made in the good old U.S.A. If not, does anyone know where they are made?
  16. Neo? Have you posted a picture of your monoblocs on this forum? If so reference please. I just can't get my aging and slow computer to access the search function on this forum. I've seen your home theatre setup - looks good but I don't recognise the main speakers. Chops and his brother jt1stcav are the current champions IMHO for posting lucious pictures!
  17. I've heard several variations on Lowther folded horn designs. Nice midrange but there are invariably restrictions at the frequency extremes. Some of the custom cabinet designs I've seen are huge! But they sound okay, if not a bit colored. The Avantgarde series is outstanding. I'd have to say the Trio approaches the Klipschorn in sound quality. But when you take pricing into account, there's no contest in favour of the Klipschorn of course. The other Avantgarde speakers, being the Duo and Uno are hybrids, so I wouldn't consider those with pure horn designs, although I don't mind the sound quality. Another favourite of mine is the Loth-X range. They're based on the 'Stamm' driver, a design not dissimilar to the Lowther, created by Singapore based, Steven Stamm. Steven has recently redesigned the driver and the new version doesn't feature the 'dual cone' appearance of the older version. I haven't heard the new driver but it's claimed to have reduced significantly the coloration and frequency response limitations of the older Lowther based design. I hope to listen to the new driver design soon as the Australian importer has been in touch with me and invited me for a listen. I'm looking forward to that. Apart from pricing, which is greater than that asked by Klipsch for the Klipschorn, the Loth-X designs appear to be far more amplifier and source dependant than the Klipschorn. As Klipsch enthusiasts know and appreciate, the Klipschorn can be driven adequately by budget tube amps. But when matched to high quality tube designs (yeah, okay, even certain solid state designs - I can't believe I said that!), the Klipschorn becomes a totally different breed, exhibiting all the qualities and attributes of true high end.

  19. I've chopped and changed over the years and I've sold perfectly good amps to friends because, well, I don't really know. Perhaps it's the thrill of getting something new or different. If I had the money I would have kept everything I ever bought, and just keep adding to the collection. I think it's an itch that just needs to be scratched. (that's not original, I read that in the F' 9/11 thread).

Perhaps prescribing to a pair of hearing aid devices will greatly increase your pleasure of enjoying SET through your KHorns. . ---------------- Ouch! 23. Reading some of the comments here, it's obvious that Klipsch Forum members are well informed, intelligent and quite capable of independant thinking. Film producers and directors have a lot of power behind the lens as has been acknowledged several times in this thread. They should exercise this power in a responsible manner. In my opinion, there is a danger when people, through no fault of their own, are perhaps not discerning as others. Such people may see this film, and in their ignorance, accept without question, the theme that Moore is trying to prosecute.
  24. Thanks guys for your comments. I have to whole-heartedly recommend this amp to anyone starting out with tubes. Just as it was recommended to me by a friend when I was confused about the whole tube issue.

And Moore' comments both written and in the media have created such a negative feeling in me that in all honesty I could not sit and watch his movie without feeling somehow - debased. So before anyone else asks, no I haven't seen the movie and I don't want to. But I respect the views of others and their right to see it.
