  1. Well, should you decide to sell those Heresy's within 6 months or so, give me a buzz.

  3. We're practically neighbours! (Rimouski, Quebec) Will you be needing those Heresy's when you get your KHorns? Drop 'em off at my place!
  4. First, the poster does not have a sub, so the question doesn't even apply. Unless setting to small redirects low frequencies to R+L large? In either case, set to large since you don't have a sub. Secondly, with a receiver that does bass management adequately (multiple frequencies & diffrent for each pair), you can set the RC-7 to small but set the frequency to 40 Hz (if you have a sub).
  5. The ultimate Heritage center channel twice two? Once again, I'm on thw rong coast...
  6. I'm interested in this also. I could do that for a center speaker instead of Heresy's on a shelf.
  7. I let the auction go (ebay). It ended at US$162.50 for a pair of black KG 5.2's which is very cheap, but it wwould have cost me about the same in shipping charges. I'll keep looking for Heresy's, preferably black, within Canada and within driving distance, which pretty much means Quebec or New Brunswick; the odds are not in my favour!

The KG is a sonically matched speaker to the Khorns, and thus, I'm assuming would likewise be a good match for the Scalas as well. One vote for, one vote against. Since you have this setup, that says something! Are you running a single one or a pair? What is the dB gain offset on your receiver for the center channel relative to the KHorns? What are you running as your rears and other surround speakers? Only a 5.1 system although the receiver would do 7.1. I'm running floor-standing speakers that used to be my main speakers in my living room: Nuance XS-3. Not that anyone is likely to know them. No longer sold; this was 10 years ago. I don't think the timber match is not as imporatnt for the rears; they are nice full speakers, 4 feet tall or so, and work well for either movies or music. I'm looking for a good center channel over the TV, but I have only 3 feet of clearance between the TV and ceiling which rules out the Cornwall or La Scala.
  9. Would KG 5.2 or KG 5.5 work as center for La Scala's? Or should I hold out for (the more expensive) Heresy's? The KG's are pretty affordable compared to heresy's. Are they any good? (I think so!) Would they timber-match the La Scala's as well as the Heresy's (or close enough?) Thanks, Peter
  10. I have the 2-disk set too. My gripe is that my kids watch it in french and the widescreen disk doesn't have french in 5.1, only in Dolby Pro-Logic. Yuck. So I'm stuck watching it in P&S. The english version is soo much better than the translation anyway...

From what I understand you want to use a pair of Heresy's as a single center to attempt to match the output of frint KHorns. You already have pre/pro + amp Halo gear, so as dougdrake said, you can use a Y-splitter and feed the center pre-out to two channels of your amp and feed the Heresy pair (instead of putting them in series or parallel). The problem with using a pair of speakers as center is that you get two closely spaced point sources instead of one, and listeners who are seated off-center will experience interference between the two. Will it sound muddy or not be noticeable? I don't know, but you have all the gear to try it. So try it and report back! :-) If it doesn't work, and you need to use a single Heresy, we may not want to split a pair since I want a black one. There is that guy from SF with a pair of black La Scala's for sale but that's far away from me and I'm not sure they would fit.
  13. I live in the wrong country, on the wrong side of the continent. Those look like mine! And I need a center channel too... ;-)
  14. That's about 17 x 12 feet. I use a pair of La Scala's in a 30 x 11' room, only using up about 15 feet of the room for the HT part. The La Scala's are along the 11' wall, but they can go into the corners since they are not rear-ported. It would be better in a larger room, but it works well for me.

  16. Wow... I don't have the skills for this but a few of my friends do. Maybe they would be interested in such a project, financed by me. :-)
  17. Sorry, I meant this year's avr-330 instead of avr-320 (two years ago). Can be had for $449 at etronics.com (same price as the Onkyo you listed). ecost.com has the older but beefier avr-325 from last year at $435.46. The price difference is small compared to this year's model, but I'm told the 325 was sold as a 4xx series in Europe which expalins the beefier weight. The older avr-320 can be had for $389.99 at ecost.com and this year's avr-230 for $319.99 at etronics.com. You can look up the specs and download the manuals for all these models from www.harmankardon.com Note that the 2005 x35 models are about to come out, with new features. But on a budget you can't go wrong with the above. For plain 5.1, no thrills, no zone II, but great sound and high-current, try a NAD T742 for $399.
  18. A harman/kardon avr-130 is nice, I agree. If 5.1 plus stero on another romm is required, step up to the avr-320 which does that. The 6th and 7th amplifier can either be a Zone II stereo or extend the 5.1 to 7.1. Check out ecost.com for excellent pricing on factory reconditioned units. If you can find it, last year's h/k avr-325 should be cheap and weights in at 40 lbs. I have this driving La Scala's and I'm very happy with it.
  19. Too bad it's no longer on the markey. I'm told the replacement Pioneer is not as good. I'm still without a DVD-A/SACD player... Am I missing out to the point where I should run out and buy one? I do think DVD-V concerts are very good (e.g Diana Krall Live in Paris).
  20. As for me, if I had the room for a cornwall I'd probably put in a La Scala (to match my other two). They are both about the same height. The only way for me to fit a La Scale would be to angle it into the suspended ceiling a bit. Could work, but WAF is not obvious...

    Heresy II

That hurts! They look new! Congratulations, lucky man!!!
  22. It sounds like we need to pair up and buy La Scalas on ebay and have each of the pair shipped to different places!
