  1. No point, unless the DAC has an embedded crossover and two outputs and a volume control. The analog signal from the DAC will be digitized again in the AVR to apply bass management. Unless you use a sub with speaker-level inputs and let it do the bass management. Except that there's only 4 dB between 80W and 200W and driving the speakers to 200W will lead to compression anyway. If 200W were required for speakers to sound good, then they would have very little dynamic range. I listen with volumes appropriate to the content. You might want 100W peaks for drums, but be very happy with a jazz trio at 1/100th W. If the impedance curve of the RF-82 difficult? Otherwise, HK receivers are still high-current and should be able to handle a normal load, specially in stereo when only two of them are in use. Tough call.
  2. 6 dB. Two closely-spaced speakers playing the same level increases SPL by 6 dB.
  3. Are you using the sub for music? If so, forget about DACs and the like.
  4. Need a light canon for it, otherwise you might regret it.
  5. The current is split. But shouldn't matter into a high-impedance amplifier input. It only cares what voltage it gets.
  6. Odd post for someone with a 20+ page thread in the sub section True enough! OTOH maybe more people would have seen it in the HT forum.
  7. Good point about the lumen. Funny thing about the width limit... I joke with my wife that most HT rooms have screens on the short wall and are already width limited almost be design. Mine has the screen on the long wall to accommodate Klipschorns. When I built the box that holds the screen slightly inset into the ceiling, I made it easy to widen it to 15 feet wide. I expect that someday I will have a 15-feet wide super-panoramic screen with a post-4K format.
  8. What loss in signal? Both amp channels will get the same input voltage without any drop.
  9. I sit first row 9.5 feet from a 120" diagonal 16:9, so...
  10. sub section was too quiet. Never a good thing to have too-quiet sections in a forum. So -1. I don't see the point of the HT Showcase gallery.
  11. It's not on amazon.ca except used imported from Italy. Went to the RedBull store from http://www.artofflightmovie.com/ and it snags on my address. They appear to accept international orders but I can't get my address to Canada accepted. Frustrating. Got it (cheaper!) from www.actionsportsvideo.com

  13. Congrats on the purchase! I too suggest setting the speakers to small with an XO of 60 or 80 Hz. If a speaker has less bass capability than the sub, then it's small.
  14. Gotcha. Still, I do have a projector and wouldn't have only a projector. Dedicating the room to a fixed screen projector is too much for me. I get a lot of TV use out of that room.
  15. Unfortunately, that's not practical in all applications. I watch Blurays on the projector but wouldn't watch TV on it. Next spring I'll upgrade my 720p 50-inch to something in the 60-65 inch class.
  16. Can't even see mine! https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/gallery/image/87-dsc-13592r/
  17. Glad that BB will make it right. My local Electronics store delivers, unboxes and inspects for damage (and take it back then and there if there's an issue). I guess it saves them hassles in the long run, and I am happy they do it.
  18. That's right! I had forgotten that pic.
  19. I like them a lot! I was reluctant to get them at first because 8-inch drivers felt small to me compared with the rest of the system. But after the simple X-Curve removal mod on the crossover, they sound great as a as speaker set to small in their role as rear surrounds. And I love the form factor; they don't get in the way. I must be the only person to have mounted sideways to take advantage of their slanted design. In a few days, I'll try them for a track or two as stereo speaker complemented with the sub. That will be the ultimate test. Just tried the KPT-100 in stereo with the sub crossed over at 80 Hz... Man! those speakers sound way better than they ought to! Great imaging when I stood closer than they are apart. They sounded great!

    Forum merge

Yeah, I was just refreshing pages in the various forums I frequent so didn't see the announcement, but noticed an error loading the Sub forum and noticed my DIY subwoofer thread appear in HT. That is a good merge. Traffic was low in the subwoofer forum.
  21. How about adding a powered subwoofers in the 2 channel as well so we know where to ask about more specific subs. For example subs for 2 channel music listening, or subs for multi channel home theater use. There is no "powered subwoofers" sub-forum. The old posts were merged into "HT". I suppose people that want 2.1 subwoofer advice might post in the 2-channel forum. The high-end Palladium posts might have had a better fit in the 2-channel forum, but it's hard to say without seeing the actual content that was there (which I didn't frequent often).

    Forum merge

I see that the "powered subwoofer" section of the forum was merge in here in "Home Theater". Makes sense, I guess.
