  1. Yup! really did not want to go shopping for a new one. Gonna leave the dust cap off for a bit, just to make sure it's well adhered.
  2. Guess I shoulda mentioned....glue it back on...and yer good to go.....[]
  3. I have owned my Servo 15 for around 8 years now, and never felt the need for an upgrade or change, things took a change for the worse yesterday when this great subwoofer started popping and farting and making all sorts of strange sounds and whacky movements of the driver. After a process of elimination I came to the conclusion it must be something within the 15" speaker itself, as a replacement 12" Altec speaker seemed to operate fine when connected to the subs amp. While I was checking out the speaker it became obvious something was moving around within the dust cap, nothing for it but to take a look inside, Upon careful removal of the dust cap I saw that what must be a part of the accelerometer (probably a sensor) had become detatched and was now able to flop around. Hope this may be of some help to owners in the future, or any owners who have put there Paradigm Servo 15 into retirement. below is a piccy of the 15's driver the black square at the centre is the sensor that had detatched.
  4. Nice!!...and nice price... love my RF-5's. Someone should jump on these they are a fine speaker.
  5. Hi Larry, no it's not the pre, it's the power amp. Was thinkin' of a project using the speakers that came with it, maybe put it all in a box and make an i-Pod boom-box...lol...
  6. 5 watt stereo, just pulled it from my old Ampex 970 reel to reel. .so what do you think?? BTW it works fine and sounded pretty good with the tape deck....
  7. Well I can report that I am very happy with the SX 1050, no complaints as to the way it sounds, and the cosmetics are faultless...It sure is a heavy beasty.
  8. Well put Thebes, now lets not hear anymore nonesense about cables...[]
  9. Thanks for the input, was the sx1050 regarded as a decent receiver, or held more in regard for it's power? I won't mind putting money into it as long as the reward is at the end, otherwise I might just as well buy something new .
  10. Their professions audio and video equipment is still top notch! The video editing equipment was excellent, as were their cameras.Bruce The same can be said of their DSLR cameras, I had always been a dedicated Nikon shooter, not any more. I have a Sony Alpha 850 and have absolutely no regrets, lens choices are a little limited (new) but those they do have are excellent.
  11. Oh OK!....I wasn't challenging your obvious knack for perception...Nor was I trying to come off as a superior being due to my residing in the great country Canada (I would claim that regardless of my origin). Please forgive me for that well perceived challenge....I should, after all these years on this forum, have known better than to question any of your pontifications. Be sure I have now learnt my lesson.....[] PS...... "Good" French blood isn't that an oxymoron.....
  12. Thebes....was this a general perception, or one that was contained in your mind????
  13. Though I'm not really in need of another stereo receiver I have the opportunity to buy a sx-1050 that is in remarkable condition. I am very happy with my HK 630 twin, but like the idea of all those extra watts (120) that the pioneer offers, and from past experiments with(borrowed) higher powered amps my RF-5's also like them. So, question is, has anyone here had first hand experience of the sx-1050.
  14. I have a 430, 630, & 730. The 630 is fully operational and is a very capable receiver, excellent phono section, and good tuner. My 430 and 730 are both in need of servicing (lamps, pots need cleaning etc) so I can't really offer a comparison. Bought them because of recommendations on this forum. To my ears they live up to what other forum members here have said.
  15. Thanks HDBR, the points you brought up are the reason I was thinking of trying PSA veneer. I have veneered other speakers before and have never been completely satisfied with the results, apparently the PSA veneers should negate many of those problems, I was hoping some here can back up those claims made by the manufacturers.
  16. Going to re-veneer my Altec 14 speakers, anyone had any experience using PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) Veneers? Or do you think the more conventional raw veneer is the better way to go...Thanks.
  17. Aha! that would seem to be the solution to both problems...[]
  18. So you need protective grills...to protect the protective grills....hmmm interesting... Grandkids...thats the easy one...educate them. Pets...nothing short of an electric fence will deter them.....[]
  19. Having never been a Bo$e owner (up until two days ago),and having never really listened to any of their products, ive not felt qualified to pass any judgement. But at a visit to the local thrift store i bought a pair of like new Bo$e 201's for the price of a cup of coffee($2).I thought maybe they could replace my little Mission M70's in the spare bedroom.I mean c'mon a pair of bo$e have gotta sound better than a couple of little budget, bottom of the line speakers. Think again!!!,Any way i don't feel too ripped of, they don't sound so bad under the seat's of my boat, and that is were there staying until those cheap paper cones reduce themselves to pulp.Oh! my apologies to you all,i still did'nt mean to pass judgement, just to ask if maybe i paid to much.[]
  20. Tell them "it could be be worse than this",then buy a pair of RSW15's and prove it.
