  1. Down firing drivers have sag working against them,as the moving mass is constantly pulled down by a magical fore called GRAVITY. Front firing subs, the driver faces less issues from sag. Before sag poses problems a good many years more will pass(opposed to the bottom/top firing). SQ wise a dead heat, output also a dead heat.
  2. Of a single LMS-5400...not much. I have four LMS-Ultra and will add four to eight LMS-Ultra in a few months. [] I am slightly jealous of four RE XXX drivers...just enough to want my own quartet.[] Jay, I would not be pulling on the driver,I would pull the trigger. [:@] Plulling the trigger on a four unit purchase of course.
  3. This is a fact and I saw the moon last night(thanks to the clear patch of sky). The Moon was larger than usual ! Also... The tenth planet is comming and with it the end of day...2012. As predicted by WebBot. WebBot also predicted a scandal in the USA end of 2008(the governor in hot water?) and an earth quake in(around) Vancouver(CANADA) December 2008 (around 12-15th). If there is an earthquake then I may believe that WebBot thing. ...oh $ it I need to dig for my bunker...2012 is close! [] Who has a spaceship? I am paying premium... []
  4. It looks like the string pulling people behind the curtain have planned cycles! Before the WW I the economy was a disaster, they sunk that ship and economy rebounded. Not enough ,they let Adolf and Hirohito build up the war machines, then after a ocean of blood economy was back up. The Gulf War sustained the good economy and now the economy is sliding again. Now a major conflict would be needed to make things roll again! That is scary. Not good, the cycle never left us. Now all of a sudden the world is short on money...where did IT go? Not like we do not like to spend in North america,we love to spend,we love big cars, big homes and lots of material goods. Problem, the shift of jobs since almost twenty years to the PRC. That is the reason America is facing tough times. Lets not pretend that is not the case. Hiding in the sand and saying "Its all good" is a fool's remedy.
  5. Adult bevrages(as GWB calls them...) are best kept in bottles. [] Those who see the bottom of the glass too many times/day need them like a drug, collections on the other hand do not harm you.
  6. To wake this hobbie thread...yeah I was half asleep so typos follow me. I am into helicopters,my first training copter...by Hirobo. My new RC additions this week! $4000 spent on RC toys, love it. And I do not want to talk about the price of the next helicopters...
  7. Ricci, I will then have to keep you in a freezer for 48 Hours. Then defrost the things grasping to the RE XXX's ! Then again you have four RE 18's,you can only manage to hold on to one. [] For some recreational WWE style debates please visit the BS forum, where my best buddy NO Valve and I are in full Christmas spirit !!! [:|]
  8. Can subs dream? [] I doubt they can, can subs move air. They sure do. Some people are impressed by the output of pro subs. Pretty much all pro subs are optimised for maximum clean output, not extension. They should be called GIANT bass modules that pound the pavement and render a few drunk concert goers more hearing impraired. LOL With the fragile(as in castle of cards) economy we may see a new market segment form ...from consumer gear to Pro gear to POS gear. [] BlueRay will mutate into Bad Ray offering a blazing 320-200 resolution in Mpeg 1. LOL next... Wol-Mrt changes their slogan to We Crush Prices and ... more! ...further down the road...I finally become low key and humble(aint gonna happen) The tenth planet passes near Earth in 2012 and there is a major pole shift! We need to reverse the polarity... LOL End of 2012 TheEAR capitulates and signs the Deaf Sub act ...giving the aliens (illegal or outter space?) total power of the sub bass market segment!!! [:$] The judgement day arrives!!! TheLord Subwooferus descends on planet Earth from Nirbu (whet ever it is called) and declares TheEAR the supreme master of TheEARTH ...hey see the TheEAR TheEAR..TH. I seize Hurd's TC Sounds and Ricci's RE XXX's drivers. Then I retire...I also claim Jay's PMS-5400 as my own!!!
  9. Mirage subs better than Klipsch...only in a mirage. [:#] Mirage has and had a few interesting "Bipolar" subs. The Klipsch RSW line and RT-10/12d plus the THX twins are above what Mirage makes now. Mirage used to manufacture a dual 10 and 12 subs, these were the finest units they ever made. That was a few years ago. Today morage is more about max value classic ported subs(as the market and the clientelle changed..a bit). Now Klipsch has clearly higher performing subs.
  10. Bottom line a great sub is defined byclean output, plenty of clean output sustained at high SPL and capable of sustaining(linearity)this output down to below audibility. Pro subs roll off as fast as falling rocks under 30Hz this is NOT acceptable today. WIth the advent of high displacement drivers there is no excuse to propose subs with poor extension.High outut yYES,but extension down to below 20Hz while maintaining the HIGH output and low distortion MUCH BETTER.
  11. -3dB point,a great 12-80Hz rating is worthless if the sub starts to roll of above 30Hz and the -3dB point is at 40Hz. A great sub will be linear down to at least 20Hz and is capable of high clean output @ 20Hz. Here displacement comes into play, there is no replacement for displacement(be it driver, port and/or other loading to increase output). A reference class sub will be capable to below 16hz at levels of over 100dB measured GP two meters from the sub.In room this translates into much higher output as room gain is inevitable. The best subs today can best 110dB measured GP ~1 meter from the sub,at frequencies below 20Hz! This will be over 120dB in room!
  12. SW8 is large...HA HA HA please. [:|] The JL Audio f113 is very small, the SVS Ultra13 is mid sized and the Epik Conquest is ...very acceptable in size. A large sub has an internal net volume of ~10 cu ft or more. The SW8 is the size of a shoe box. You want small and good...Sunfire Signature and the Velodyne DD12,these are not cheap. You want a better value...SVS SB12 cube alot cheaper and close in performance. Best compromise in my view...HSU new sealed sub using a mighty 15",this unit would be my first choice as far as price performance and SQ quality with good output...and extension.
  13. I did not realise what I was missing untill I got my TWENTY driver wall O subs finished. Now I have totally effortless abyss bass at my command. From near DC to 80Hz reference levels are smashed with total ease. [] Power is addictive, now a single JL Audio f113 or any single commercial sub is just...restricted. []
  14. The large Epik is in no way more accurate than the HGS/DD18. Itis capable of vastly superior output below 20Hz. Distortion in the subsonic bass is also percieved as MORE output by the human hearing. The Danley sub(using the 12" driver) is capable of higher clean output than the big Epik,no contest here.
  15. Sub12 for $249 !!! Thatis one heck of a GREAT DEAL. Anyone interested by a solid sub at a incredible price should jump on that deal!
  16. Just noticed this OB thread and the sad news. Oldbuckster made this forum a better place ,he will be missed. R.I.P. Buckster

    Sub

You can split several times the single sub out,I have four subs per sub ouput(at least!). The sub amp is doing the work,if you split you get less signal, compensated by the gain on the sub and you have the gain on the receiver/pre pro.
  18. For general music listening the RSW12 and 15 each do a great job, they are never boomy of intrude on the music, for serious HT they miss the abyss portion of the subsonic portion that brings the shake factor home. I would advise people to listen to the Klipsch THX trio, two subs powered by the matching Klipsch amp, this combo starts to bring serious ...very serious output and extension home. And these subs are very compact.
  19. Reviewers look at the highest 20-60Hz output, the RSW15 has great output 30Hz on up. The Conquest has great output even at 16hz. For the deep move ruble or pipe organ reproduction a subwoofer with serious output under 20hz make all the difference. When you charge $1500 or close, people expect ouput in the 20hz range. Today with all the low cost high displacement drivers and transformerless amps there is little excuse to sell expensive subs not capable of serious 20Hz output...in the 1K and up price range.
  20. For general home coputing ~350-500VA is fine. For larger gaming rigs and small servers I would look ~750VA. The 1500VA and up are needed for larger data servers and seriously heavy gaming machines. Not the larger UPS will hurt,as you get more run time.
  21. Google is for the folks with a googly eye! I like the search engine and that is about it. The rest of the gizmos they can keep.
  22. I have it and it is damn good. Gears of War sure helps sell some consoles.
  23. I am in the planification stage, then I will be in the saving the Rupies stage and finally go buy it and play. []
  24. I prefer the Fox on fire and the good ole E.
