  1. hey bs is that a dead soldier? the k77 sitting on top there please dont tell me that its hooked up, because you needed more highs?? j/k jay
  2. i got mine today, the wife was a target and they had one left (of the three that came in this am) the picture is great(110 inch ft projection) the audio is amazing (i am useing the analog outs to my pre/pro and forcing the dts neo6 surround mode) when running from the cops in need for speed "most wanted" it scared the crap out of me when the cops got on the loudspeaker and told me to pull over. i didnt know that my surrounds could get that loud! and the sound field is truly "3d" my wife just made the comment that we now have a $25k video game? jay
  3. does your av reciever have an input level set up? if so you may have inadvertently turned it down. i found this out because i had different volume levels on different sources and found the input levels set to different gains also check to see that the output levels on your source didnt get turned down. and the last thing would be to make shure the mute(-20db) button didnt get pushed. hope this helps, let know what you find out jay
  4. chris, it will do 1080i/1080p if you have a display that will do true hd resolitions it will make a big differance! if your upconverting to a display that is rated ed(extended definition) , the inprovment may not be as noticeable jay
  5. it comes down to pixel count the sxrd sony has twice as many nuff said! id do the sony and hope that" They" can figure out our new "source to beat all sources" (blue ray/hddvd/holograms, think R2D2) jay
  6. steelerfan, it has a switchable output dac dts/dolby at 96k or 48k it also has 5.1 outs with channel set up (volume/delay ect) and a master volume to control the 5.1 outs. you can switch on the fly between dolby and dts on discs that are encoded with both soundtracks, as stated before dts rules i havent used it for music yet and dont know if i will (i use the dacs built into my pre/pro anyway so it would be used as a reader only) as far as movie soundtracks go i havent heard any glitches or unruly stuff out of it and it has a low noise floor jay p.s. steelers are going to win!!!
  7. scooter, i know it wont do blue ray, and i know its not true hd. and i quit listening to salesmen along time ago but, i sampled 6 different discs and the picture looked way closer to hd than my other player. i agree that the improvement will also differ depending on the naitive resolution of the display and the quality of the built in scaler of the display. in my case(sony vpl-vw12ht w/1366x768) it made a marked improvement. as far as an external scaler i didnt want to incure the extra cost also about blue ray as far is i know none of the blue ray players that are coming out will output hd over component and im not ready to upgrade my projector at this time. so, if anyone else finds themselves in my boat, (no DVI/DMI ect) it's worth a look. jay
  8. its a black metal box 19 inches wide 1 inch tall it has a little tiny display(1/2 inch by 2 3/4 ) silver face plate 5 buttons on the front (most featres accessed from the remote) AMAZING picture (720p/1080i/1080p) jay
  9. dammit. jim??? never mind ...... BONES??? SCOTTY??
  10. i agree with what was mentioned above if they still play and sound ok they are most likely not damaged. i have had several voice coil fires (the ones that fill the room full of smoke) remember if you let the smoke out, their done!! jay
  11. first off "thanks "are in order!!! picky, thanks for your rant about the hd thing on the third page, second post down, you have a link to the Neu Neo 2085 upconverting dvd player. (720p/1080i/1080p, output over the COMPONENT outs) for thoes of us,and there are many, who went for the first generation of hd displays(the ones without any other input other than COMPONENT) we still have a choice!! after checking out the link, and reading the one review that they have, i ordered one. it came today(it was IN STOCK!!) after playing around with it some i put in I ROBOT for a short preview. i ended up watching the whole thing ! the menu is a litttle wierd the remote is a little wierd the picture is AMAZING!!( over the COMPONENT OUTS) for anyone who doesn't have DVI/HDMI ect. BUY THIS DVD PLAYER NOW!!!!!! before, THEY, put it out of production!! some cool features (1) direct play (skips all the fbi/preview stuff) (2) A/B comparison between dolby/ dts (at the push of a button on the remote) (dts kills the dolby d) more to come, the best $245(with shipping) i've spent in a long time jay
  12. sorry about the missing pic? when i previewed the post it was there but... jay
  13. i also agree with the others you will NEED a bigger sub or subs with the output of the 7's the little sub will be taxed to keep up when looking for subs to keep up with mt cornwalls i ended up with a pair of duel 15 pro subs and have never looked back
  14. when setting channel volumes, should you... (a) point the meter up from the sweet spot ( point it at each speaker ,from the sweet spot © point it to the ft of the system, from the sweet spot or does it matter, as long as its consistent jay
  15. i have this funny in car video....when my gas pedal falls off....... never mind jay
  16. thanks, mike i run skicks at all 4's at the track. on the street i use the gsc's in th front because they dont toss as much gravel into my eyes!! and yes i do weight ballance is +/- 11 pounds per the only car that has bested me at the track is the trans am corvette driven by randy rhuleman(sp?) he was scott pruitt's team mate with derhig racing they test at our track jay
  17. mike nice car heres mine (sorry i used to be able to do a link so it woud show up but...) http://www.nationaltbucketalliance.com/members/T03-1168/index.asp 750 rwhp 2115 lbs (w/ driver) 0 / 100 / 0 in 7.5 seconds!! 1.25gs in the corners jay

  19. jeff, i use NAD, i have a big pile of bridged amps one for each channel huge power, great dynamics!(rated at over 4 db of headroom) three 2600's/four 2400's all but my first one found at the pawnshop/ebay see my profile jay
  20. thebes.... always good for a hearty laugh!! one thing to remember is that ALL electronic equipment is packaged with some smoke inside. the goal when working on this type of stuff is to NOT let the smoke out, it almost never works correctly with out the prepackaged smoke inside where it belongs!!! one thing that i do when finished with my internal gambleing is to perform a SMOKE test? plug it in , turn it on, and if the smoke stays inside the unit, you're most likely OK lol jay
  21. we have a new puppy! today i watched her listen to my system on the quiet parts her ears were forward.... on the middle volume parts her ears were neurtral... on the loud parts here ears were back?? so...i got to thinking .... what if we (humans) could POINT our ears?? sounds stupid??? try it!!! i made a "headphone set" comprised of 2 balls cut in quarters and suspended by a peice of wire, draped over my head and pointed to the ft end of my system. sounds ....interesting to say the least kills the multi-channel thing for sure but.... jay
  22. its worse than you think..... up converting dvd players have been around for a while now and only the first generation players upconvert over component???? now we have 1080p displays that wont accept a 1080p input????? as of yesterday the only way to watch a hi-def source(other than broadcast tv) was to make it yourself, store it on your hard drive and show it to your buddies, over a few beers. now pioneer has released a blue ray dvd burner and if you know someone who also has the new pioneer and a big enough computer to process the data they can also check out your hd stuff. it takes a duel processor chip set! someone needs to come to our rescue! as stated above we cant keep upgrading our equipment just because! some even ground needs to be realized take down the pirates and let the rest of us have our equipment get old and die a usefull life ! ive been fighting the hd thing for a while now check out my web site www.tkohd.com feel my pain??? jay
  23. with your 6k budget a painted screen will leave you with more to spend on the rest of your system. you should check out the sony hs51 projector, as it gets great reviews and is supposed to have the best blacks in its price range. then folllow with the 7 series reference stuff for the front three channels and go with the 35 series in the rear. this should fit you budget and will sound awsum. you can always add amps and stuff later. one thing to remember, for more than a few of us here ht is like a good hot rod (its never done!!!) jay
  24. there is an artificial acoustic thing that happens when you put your speakers above ear level. they seem to sound bigger. and if you tip them down then you wont loose as much hi frequency information, as compared to having the horns close to a carpeted floor. jay
  25. anyone else have the computer hooked up to their front projection set up? we have computers everywhere and as of late i find myself sitting in the ht room...hanging out here or a few other forums that i belong to..... my wife happened to mention the bulb life thing, so i put it ti the calc and figured that at .083 cents per min it was worth having a 110 inch monitor!! anyone else?? jay
