  1. What do they look like...got any pix? [6]
  2. Fini, sorry about the misinformation, I was under the impression they made more stereo then mono thus the higher demand for mono. Thanks for the heads up. CP1, the states are as follows: First State left the factory as a butcher cover - a rare gem to find, only a handful exist. From what I have read they never actually made it to stores like people believe. They went to beatles fan club members and stores/stations as a pre-release. Some company exec. had 11 or 13 or some low number that he kept and gave to a relative many years later. They are multi thousand $$$ copies you see sell from time to time. Second state a butcher cover with trunk cover "pasted" over the top of it to hide the butcher under it. This was a cost saving measure to use the existing jackets but get rid of the butcher. Third state is a 2nd state that has had the trunk cover removed to show the butcher under it. All are very cool in my book...I would not turn down any of them. EDIT: here is probably better info then I can give you off the top of my feeble mind. http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/butcher.html
  3. The trend I have noticed with just my casual interest is that 2nd states are worth more then the 3rd states or "peeled" covers. I believe $600 is about market value, obviously condition and other factors apply, but that is a ball park figure. Being that it is mono makes it a bit more valuable. Covers that are pasted a little off center or ones where you can vividly see the "V" in Ringo's shirt bring more money because it is very obvious that the butcher cover is under it. I think it would be a great piece of music art to have a 2nd and 3rd state cover framed along with a copy of the letter sent out recalling the butcher. FWIW, you can get copies of that letter for just a few bucks on ebay. I bet if you look hard enough you can find one on line and download it. BTW, if anyone out there in Klipsch Forum Land (KFL) is looking for a x-mas present for me I'll take this.
  4. Buffalo Springfield, I can never remember the name of the song. The title is not what you thik it is sort of like thinking Baba O'Riley is called Teenage Wasteland....but I digress. The chorus goes something like "[8]Stop children whats that sound everyone look what's going down"[8] EDIT: Good one Jeff, looks like you win in the fastest typist contest.
  5. Still no pix. The properties of the red X say it is still a local file on your computer's hard drive. What OS and browser are you using? Have you been able to post pictures in the past? EDIT: Testing to see if I can get your Lil Squirt pic to show.
  6. Joe, Right click on one of your pictures and select "properties" you will see that your pictures are located somewhere like this: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Joe/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/image001111.jpg The web page thinks they are on your computer, note the "C" drive above. This is why they show up when you read the page. The web browser can find that path on your system, but not on any other system. Thus we don't see them. On the tool bar above where you compose your message look at the 2nd icon from the right. It looks like a mountain with a sun in the background - hover your mouse over it and it says "Insert Image". Click it, then use the browse button to locate your photo. It will upload it automatically when you post the message. Downside is that you can only have one picture per post. A more elegant solution is to upload your photos to a web server then put in the proper HTML to make image tags. This way you can get more then on photo per page. A bit more work, best bet is to use the first method I describe above.
  7. Marty, I can't find the cornwalls on either the DC, Philly or Baltimore Craig's list. Please post the link. Thanks!
  8. Is this the same good old Dynaco as the famed MK III & IV? http://cgi.ebay.com/Dynaco-Mark-MK-VI-8417-tube-amps-7199-FREE-SHIPPING_W0QQitemZ5841472073QQcategoryZ50593QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem They look cool, which is pretty much the only reason to buy audio gear, right? Anybody know anything about these? @120 watts they seems more then adequate to meet the needs of a tube lover looking for gobs of power. Just noticed they are in HI. I will gladly got pick them up for anybody interested in them...you just have to pick up the cost of the flight.
  9. When I first read the lyrics I was thinking some southern fried rock band and even put Molly Hatchet as my first choice. However I will never in a million years come up with the title. Do I get partial credit?
  10. Bite your tongue! The wife and [&] will spend the night in the garage before my Forte IIs. However I would not shy away from a different pair of "beater F2s" in the garage...better yet double bass bin stacked, split LSIs...where might I find a pair of those between Baltimore and say...oh I don't know...Indy?
  11. Hmmmm, That is about 30-45 minutes from my house. My garage is almost finished, soon it will need gear don't ya think? just might have to keep an eye on them. What should be my max bid if I am of the attitude; "I don't really want them or need them but this is too good of a deal to pass up?" If anyone wants them I could be persuaded to pick them up and hold them for you. However I just might have to A/B them with my Forte IIs to show 'ol GaryMD that the mighty Cornwall is not the end all be all non-corner speaker [6] Ducking now!
  12. I think the same thing from time to time. I find of the 3-4 forums I frequent only the HT forum is, for the most part, about home theater. I guess it is not "cool" [H] to post general stuff in the general forum. But what the heck. This is a free service and there is lots of good info here, you just have to wade through the crap some of the time. As for the album art I would rather look at Krall covered in a green dress even if the pose is uncomfortable then the baby/apple one. To each his (her) own I guess.
  13. The Goldring 1012GX is a fine cartridge. I bought mine used so I can't say for sure about it being mounted at the factory...but I think they are factory mounted and ready to play out of the box new. After about 6 months of using the Goldring 1012GX I switched to a Dynavector 20X. My thinking was that some day I would probably upgrade the table and this way I would already have a nicer cartridge (plus I was wanting to buy something). I do think the Dynavector is more musical. I hear more detail and clarity. However, if you figure I went from a 500 total set up (cart/table) to a 1000 dollar set up (new cart same table) I did not double my pleasure. The jump from CD to vinyl was WAY more of a leap then from one cartridge to the next, as would be expected by most I think. My seller removed the cart. and packaged it up carefully. While it is time consuming to attach the cartridge to the headshell, hook up the wires, align the cartridge, level the table, set the VTA, adjust the azimuth, etc. it is not all that difficult. Being the way I am I doubt I would trust the factory set up anyway and would still check/adjust things myself.
  14. If you go with the already mentioned Music Hall MMF-5 it will most likely come with a cartridge, because they were sold that way new. Be sure and check with the seller. I did the same drill you are contemplating about 10 months ago. Wanted something decent to see if I would get back into vinyl, but did not way to remortgage my house. I found most on the contenders on my radar (300-600 bucks) came with a cartridge. I bought a used MMF-5 and have been happy with it. If you can seriously get a used one for 350 I can't see looking any further. I paid $450 for mine and thought it was a fair price for both seller and buyer. Mine was pristine, owned by a guy (total nerd) that was more picky about condition then me. He actually wrote Roy Hall (founder of music hall) to complain about the lack of transparent-ness of the dust cover (btw it looks fine to me). Roy wrote him back saying that was one way to save on cost and they would rather put the money into the table. He saved the email traffic and gave it to me...like I said total nerd. Bottom line I think you would be better off with a used table like a Rega, Music Hall, Project. Only problem with used is that they are a precision instrument, so you need to get some comfort level from the seller. Check out this thread it has two pages of the same info you probably want to know http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/523457/ShowPost.aspx Let us know what you decide and good luck.
  15. I'd say you nailed that one Michael. Chambers Brothers I think. Don't forget to scream "Hey" at the end of every verse [8]
  16. Add any of the music scenes from Ray to your DVD show off list. For a slightly older move try any of the outside rain scenes from Se7en. They are very subtle but the rain from the surround speakers sounds like it is coming down on your head and you feel as if you should be getting wet. U2 Go Home - Live From Slane Castle is a great concert DVD
  17. I picked up the CD today after work. Not too bad...not great either...but then I am not a huge x-mas fan.
  18. Get some duct tape and make headphones out of em.[8-|]
  19. I can't tell you specifically if the sunfire TGIV would be better then the others (no personal experience) listed ...but I can tell you it is a sweet pre/pro. I really mine. As to the amps, others may disagree but I think the more power the better. Obviously you have to pay for it, but if you have the means I would go bigger. I am currently using four 2 channel amps to power my 7 channels of HT. Each of them can be run as 2 channel or bridged for mono (and more power). One day I decided to test the difference. I listened to some familiar music with one amp which is rated at 225 WPC. Then hooked up two bridged mono amps which gives 350 WPC and listened to the same music. The music running with two mono amps had more punch to it. It also sounded more musical, with more depth, clarity and faster bass. The meters on the amps suggest I was running between 2 and 5 watts. I don't really understand how having aprox. 200 vs. 300 watts to spare could make a difference...but I would swear I heard a difference.
  20. I did that same thing. It was a real b!tch twisting on the wire nuts at the end of every 100 feet of wire. Dean, why no train avatars any more?
  21. Correct on the band...need a hint. Is you memory failing your transistor?
  22. No more Mr. Nice Guy - Allice Cooper Here ya go...is a RnR hall of fame band good enough for ya Michael? Do you remember Murray the K, Alan Freed, and high energy? It's the end, the end of the 70's It's the end, the end of the century Do you remember lying in bed With your covers pulled up over your head? Radio playin' so no one can see We need change, we need it fast Before rock's just part of the past 'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me Oh oh oh oh, oh oh
  23. That is in fact a fair price. Thanks for posting here...good luck on the sale. If you lived closer to me I would be in the car now!
  24. Yes to the C1 being ported and C2 having PR. Both Forte version have a PR and I think you are right about the F2 having the 15" and the F1 having the 12". It should be easy to tell once you look at them if they are F1 or F2 right on the cup where the binding posts are it will say "Forte" or "Forte II". As for price it really is all over the map and the prices seem to overlap regardless if they are C1/C2/F1/F2. $350 on the low side and I have seen people asking as much as $1100 (not sure if they got it). I have seen a pair of C2s sell on ebay for over $950. $700+ on a regular basis. I personally paid $750 for WO Chorus last year and sold them for that this year. I thought it was a fair deal when I bought them, so did the guy who bought them from me. I don't think it is fair to compare them to Cornwalls and say one is better/worse and there for sell for more/less. Personal preference determines on what side of the Cornwall or F/C side you are on, but they really are in the same ball park in that they all sound great and are pretty darn big when you look at today's speaker size. I can't see a wife saying Fortes are perfect just what I had in mind, but those Cornwall or Chorus are too big. Yes the Cornwall is bigger but the other are not smaller enough to get past "cube wanters". Side note: I have the nicest pair of Forte IIs you will ever see in OO. I have had them since day one NIB...still have the boxes. I would not take a single pair of Cornwalls on the planet for them. Not even GaryMD's factory zebra wood. If they turn out to be FIIs grab them in any condition if he is selling them for $450 or less.
