  1. It IS a good week for suggestions -- I loved Word's Apart by Saga when it came out -- a great song and video on MTV -- Was it "On the Loose"? I'm going to get it again --its great instrumental prog pop-- Lucinda Williams's "Car Wheels On a Dusty Road" is incredible -- soulful country folk with guitar hooks a plenty -- Let me offer this one though, EASY AllStars " Radiodread ", which is OK Computer set to deep down reggae grooves and samples. Radiohead's original is treated with a load of respect --and these songs are revelatory in dub. Great stuff , and great musicianship and sound--
  2. Surprising how many of them are long time jazzers -- not much new blood-- Sonny Rollins is always good-- so is Bill Frisell's trio --
  3. Saw PT during the Boom Boom Out Go the Lights tour -- splendid guitar player-- And when he played that song, I don't think there was anyone who wasn't screaming it out with him -- great show--
  4. MXC on Spike is hilarious, and brutal competition between those folks across the big pond-- The comedic voice overs are a hoot--
  5. Thebes, never heard of the Comboy Junkies -- they good? Kidding--that's a great album-- How about Mahogany Rush Live? This was one of my favorite albums in the late 70's, and I played it along with the VanHalen debut album in the car nonstop. Similar to VH because it had alot of guitar pyrotechnics, and Frank Marino plays with alot of style on the speedy riffs and leads. Classic rock that was overlooked, but what a show! Heard this last week after not hearing it for years-- its still fun--with a great version of Purple Haze that takes off--
  6. Websites are easy to build and manitain -- if they are simple -- Try 1and1.com -- you can make your own site for $5 a month -- mine is www.keithlindquist.com -- very simple-- and you can build a much more complicated site with them, too --very inexpensively. You just pick templates then fill them in with your information and graphics. There are also options with a more dymamic look and more Flash-- Other than that, learn Dreamweaver -- I'm taking a course in it now. Much more intensive, but you can be much more creative and install more multipurpose systems on your site--
  7. Great pick of tunes to play -- Eric Johnson lives on-- speaking vicariously, is the kid getting laid alot because of his ability with his hands?
  8. Obviously, none of you have seen Kung Fu Hustle, the baddest, funniest B-movie ever to be seen-- Incredibly creative effects and fight scenes and unbelievable situations with alot of bad acting. I've seen this 8 times(?), and it still is amazing-- Entertaining as hell--
  9. Shoot -- heard this so many times--a big hit. But I had to cheat because I couldn't remember who did it -- I'm gonna go jump off a cliff!
  10. Quirky and excellent movie -- A family of misfits drive their daughter to a pageant a few states away from home -- that's the plot. That's it. But-- there are so many surprises that come in unexpected ways. The problems they all go through and the resolve they show to get there is fascinating to watch. At any time, you look at these loser characters and think they deserve to be where they are in life, and yet their faults prove to be strengths. A great story about seemingly average people -- its a family movie for adults. I hope it gets some awards -- this needs to be seen--
  11. Eruption from Van Halen -- We called it Erection after several beers and chemicals, heterosexually speaking--
  12. Ouch-- Fred and Shakira should do a duet to really stink up the place. The BEST cover has got to be Hendrix's version of AATW or the Allman Bros remake of Stormy Monday-- The worst cover is anything Motown sacrilegously sung by Michael Bolton --
  13. I saw POTC DMC last night, and I think its easily as good the first, maybe even better. They could have just used one big ball/wheel rolling through a forest instead of two, but otherwise it was darn entertaining. Maybe a little too much effort was put into having the characters spell out the P-L-O-T but the first one did that, too. DMC has as much Bruckheimerish gloss as the first one, but the effects are worth it -- Davey Jones is inventive and menacing as is the rest of his crew-He's the same Brit actor who played the old vampire in Underworld and the old rocker in Still Crazy and Love Actually -- If you liked Johnny Depp in the first, don't miss this one either--
  14. Agreed -- my cousin was a Zappaphyte back in the 70s and I always thought "why?". I remember a girlfriend back then started breaking it off with me when I criticized the fact that she listened to Peter Gabriel's early albums and early Talking Heads -- she was right to. Led Zep on Cadillac commercials? Ozzy played at NFL football games? All the seemingly subversive stuff from back then has gotten its due. Every time I listen to a Zappa guitar solo now , I think "Man I was missing this?" I think it was the "yellow snow" type lyrics that made me not pay attention to the music. But in this thread it sure kills the replies!
  15. How about this LP gatefold? What album did it come from -- still gives me the munchies--
  16. I liked SS, but that first one pronounced was my fave -- something about looking at the cover in a smoky haze listening to Freebird for the first time and not being able to tell if Alen Collins was a girl. Also Second Helping was the best collection of songs, and that cover of Call Me the Breeze is amazing even now--
  17. That's Les Dudek -- played with Allman Brothers at some point -- Had some other good albums, too, but none ever caught fire--
  18. A spectacular website for Nikon is kenrockwell.com. I shoot with a D70, and this site has been the finest resource for lenses, technique, and how-to's. Simple language and very helpful--he only asks for donations, but its free--
  19. You know that reminds me, weren't there three songs rolling around in the 70's with the exact same riff? Honey Hush from Foghat, "Train Kept a Rollin'" from Aerosmith,. and Jeff Beck had a song with the same riff off his live one with Jan Hammer-- am I crazy?
  20. Its more of a coming of age movie for twentysomethings than a comedy. But I loved it--Meryl reminds me alot of my wife!!! She is incredible in this--she never raises her voice but she speaks with such intense violence--no other acttress could have pulled this off. The movie is a very interesting look into the fashion industry, which seems like a very dog eat dog world. I thought it was funny how they all called Hathaway fat when she looked thin and cute to me--
  21. Foghat Live was their most fun album -- their big hits with alot of oomph behind it. Classic blues rock -- these guys were never innovators, just good musicians that had their best songwriting on Fool for the City. You couldn't escape that song on radio back then-- Killer slide guitar, too
