  1. my lack of digital camera and organization skills don't worry. i have a chair set up in the back of the room for proper listening...
  2. hi dean, while we're on the topic of la scala crossovers, i'd like to take you up on the offer presented in http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/625076/ShowPost.aspx . unless you've changed your mind, then i can always try ordering myself since you guys said theres no hassle involved. thanks.
  3. hey that would be great, dean. can i send you a money order? my paypal account is down to a $40 or so dollar limit without verification. also, would you mind ordering the two caps i need as well? i priced out the following and decided to go with the 12 guage inductor like you said. the #10 @ $50 each seemed a bit too pricey 2 2.40 mHy inductor wound of AWG #12 solid $63.18 2 .30 mHy inductor wound of AWG #14 Litz wire $18.38 2 .20 mHy inductor wound of AWG #14 Litz wire $15.14 2 39 uFd. +-5% Solen "Fast Cap" $19.80 2 6.2 uFd. +-5% Solen "Fast cap" $5 __________________ $121.50 let me know if my math is off. it happens quite often.

Mail Orders of less than US$ 1250.00: A US$ 5.00 U.S. custom processing fee and a US$ 3.40 post office charge to be paid to the Post Office when you receive your order. UPS Orders of less than US$ 1250.00: A US$ 2.00 U.S. custom merchandise processing fee and a US$ 17.50 custom broker charge to be paid to the Custom Broker when you receive your order.
  5. i found this site called speakerbits, but they don't carry the inductors i need. they only have them in 16 guage, and they are off by .03mHy (not sure if that matters much). i'm looking for solen 2 2.40 mHy inductor wound of AWG #14 solid 2 .30 mHy inductor wound of AWG #14 Litz wire 2 .20 mHy inductor wound of AWG #14 Litz wire i'd really prefer not to have to order from canada. thanks guys.
  6. well that's exactly how i feel, too. except i've come across certain people who seem to think otherwise, deeming digital "crap" under any scenario.
  7. Just because it seems to be the bandwagon to jump on these days doesn't mean everyone who's against digital is on that bandwagon. Everyone has a right to their own opinions. ah, yes, but sometimes people forget crappy analog can sound just as bad, if not worse, than crappy digital. calling digital "crap" is not proper opinion... it's mere ignorance.
  8. oh, but don't you know it's common practice to bash anything digital? everyone else does, so may as well join the crusade. i also find much irony in the fact that most of the people saying digital is crap are self admittedly using crappy forms of digital sources themselves.
  9. you really tried to use a propane torch to solder small components?
  10. funny you say that. i think if my AL scalas were any brighter, i'd need to put a thick curtain over them.
  11. ah, the amp works fine.. just wondering because i don't really hear about anyone ever "upgrading" caps in their ss amps, even vintage. the only cap replacements i hear of are in tube amps
  12. are you implying that caps on solid state amps should be renewed every decade or so? my mcintosh mc250 (ss) is from the late 60's or early 70's, and i was wondering if the caps are shot or not. wouldn't using non original components in a case like mine degrade the value of the amp?
  13. http://phile.net/khorn.wav supposed to be 7ms, but it sounds like a lot more. i think this software is screwing with me.
  14. basically, as i understand it from my lacking research, convolvers "mold" whatever media you're playing around an impulse. the impulse is what i'd be creating in this case. it does this all via frequency. you can create lowpass and highpass filter convolutions with a bunch of softwares, such as scopefir. what i did was take a "neutral" impulse file (all frequency decibel levels the same and there is no delay or effects added) and made my highpass/lowpass from that, since i do not posses a license for the other specialized software. convolutions can do many things. act as an equalizer (fully customizable of course), use it as a crossover (not with foobar's convolver though.. it's a bit limited), make accurate reverb effects, etc... the possibilities really are endless. and it does all these things extremely efficiently, and much cheaper than buying the actual hardware to do it standalone. what i'd really like to try is some DRC. there is software that creates impulses catered to what it analyzes from your room, but i don't have a microphone. i uploaded the impulse i start with here: http://phile.net/impulse.wav i'll work on that k-horn simulator after i grab a tasty beverage.
  15. if all your files do is exaggerate the time delay rather than correct it, so a person can get a general idea, i can create a convolution for that real quick at 400hz so they can use it with any music file they want. let me know.
  16. well, i finished that subwoofer i was talking about a few pages ago
  17. with a room that small, like mine, it should be easy to fill with bass, so you won't need to get a super expensive sub. also, with a room that small, corner loading the scalas should buy you some time before you are in dire need of a sub. to be honest, at first i was quite dissapointed. if this forum's search feature wasn't so terrible, you could probably find my posts knocking the scalas. i really became impressed once i positioned them correctly and made risers. room treatments were icing on the cake. these speakers are extremely sensitive to placement from my experience. now all i need to do is upgrade the terrible crossovers i'm using and i should be solid.
  18. it's been three months already? wow.. how time flies. cornwalls should be okay for the room. i have my la scalas in an 11x11 room, and they sound great after some minor tweaking (room treatments and risers). i upgraded from rf-3's as well.
  19. just correct the delay. better be safe than sorry. it's only an extra grand, right? sell a kidney. i'm sure the delay makes much more of a difference than that extra kidney.
