  1. i tried by wiring as well on my old rf-3's. couldnt tell any difference either
  2. i need to find something like that to wrap my cables in.
  3. seal the chamber? when i took off the bottom pannel to my scalas, there was no sealing or weather stripping. i just put it back the way it was. is this lack of sealing "seriously" detrimental to the bass bin sound? the bottom panels have a pretty flush fit, but nothing is perfect edit: it was screwed on of course
  4. heh... i completely quoted the wrong part of your post.

  6. well it's either the bass traps or the roomtunes. they both go in corners, so i can't have both. i've been following your advice so far, so if you think i should go with those first, i'll give it a shot. besides, the cheaper pricetag is quite attractive
  7. hey guys, that foam behind the carpet sounds like a great idea. with the foam and extra carpet on the door (door is located on backwall as well), i think i may have enough "deadening" and absorbtion material in my room. the next step will be the diffusers like i said, and lastly (the most expensive) the roomtune pack. if i don't feel i need the roomtune pack, i may just pick up those $69 bass traps from ebay that someone posted the other day. and mike, i'll check out that site you linked me to. thanks.
  8. As some of you may know, i've been on a quest for acoustic room treatments. ideally, i was planning on the masonite panels and the roomtune pack that nodisc recommended. i was in home depot yesterday and i saw this really thick high quality area rug in their "bargain bin." it's about 7'x4.5'. it was only $48, but it seemed to be of the same quality as some of their more expensive $200-$300 area rugs. so i figured, what the hell, i'll give it a shot, and if it doesnt work too well, i'll throw it on the floor somewhere. i hung this heavy sucker on my wall and the difference in sound i'm experiencing is amazing. i know it's not just placebo because when i clap, i no longer hear an echo either. unfortunately, i couldn't center it on the back wall because of a door, but the sound doesnt seeem to be "off" in any way. i'll put a small rug on the door just to play it safe though. now that the rug is in place, i doubt i'll be taking it down. it sounds and looks great. i still plan on making masonite panels and buying the roomtunepack. instead of having the masonite panels behind me, i'll try placing them on the ceiling to act solely as diffusers. it may present a problem with my projector, but i'll figure something out. well, this truely opened my eyes to what room treatment can do. even something little as this made a remarkable difference in clarity. i can't wait to hear the differences once i have my full room treatments in place. i've gone from not being too impressed with my la scala upgrade over the rf-3ii's in my 11x11 room, to being completely blown away. just wanted to share my experiences with you guys. thanks for reading.
  9. go for the kill and get k-horns. you're going to want them anyway.
  10. i used the spikes that came with the speakers for my carpet-on-concrete room
  11. i saw something like this on one of those public broadcasting channels. i think they were offering this if you donated $50 or so, and they'd throw in a free t-shirt if you donated $100 or more. can't say it held my attention long enough not to change the channel. although i do love when they air those disco reunions!
  12. ohh, they're "in wall" speaker wire. i suppose that doesnt make a difference, but i was hoping they'd look somewhat expensive to impress the neighbors when they come over to hear what's been rattling their walls. thank you for taking the time out to find them for me. i apreciate it
  13. i unplugged my mcintosh mc250 and said to myself "hmm, this plug doesnt have one fatter 'connector,' so how am i supposed to know which way is right side up?" well, i plugged the sucker in upside down and i could swear a hear a difference. placebo is lingering in the back of my head. someone tell me if what i'm hearing is real. i would assume plugging it in upside down would put everything in a sort of.. reversed phase (not sure if this is the correct terminology, don't laugh ), but then again i do remember reading that we can't tell the difference which way the phase is, as long as everything else is the same. enlighten me. thanks.
  14. hmm... and which kind of audioquest cable would this be? is there a model number of some sort? i need longer cables, and if the audioquest stuff is only a dollar a foot, i may as well buy $20 worth for my 11x11 room. it sure can't hurt. edit: i hope it looks prettier than radioshack wire!
  15. what happened to building those cornscalas or buying those rf-3's? you sure have a lot of cash saved up for someone your age
  16. uh, so your cables only work when im standing far away from the speakers?
  17. interesting find. i must say, that is quite a nice pricetag if these are on par with auralex's traps.
  18. what i really need is a moderately priced vga extension. one of my projectors has a breakout connector with both a usb and vga plug, so i can't just replace the whole thing with a single cable. i'm not sure what brands to look at for this sort of thing.
