  1. is the silvery coating on the cap leads supposed to be scraped off too at the tips?
  2. [] so i just scrape it off with a knife? edit: same process for litz?
  3. i'm glad i decided not to solder yet, otherwise i'd be screwed. it may look as though the woofer inductor lead is not connected to anything, but it is.. it's just hard to see in the crappy photos. i apologize, but a cameraphone is all i have.
  4. okay.. i'll see if my cameraphone comes out clear enough.
  5. i don't see how i'm not getting output from the woofer.. all it is is an inductor. i even tried removing the fuse (and holder of course) from the circuit.
  6. so, i'm getting no squawker or woofer output... any trouble shooting tips? i'm pretty sure i have everything wired correctly... tweeter seems to be working fine
  7. hey dean, got the package today. i'm sure glad everything was double boxed otherwise we would've had parts falling out! usps sure did a number on the outer box, they even somehow managed to snap one of the plastic holders off the inductors off. those woofer inductors are hefty suckers. the 10 guage version must be enormous. well, i'll start putting them together in a temporary fashion (wire twisting) until the weekend. have to run to radioshack and buy some rosin core solder and a new iron.. can't find mine. i will paypal you the $13 shipping later today, just leave me your paypal address. thanks again. -chris
  8. oh my, didn't realize how inexpensive the 511b's were. makes this even more interesting
  9. hey, that looks good. i didn't know they would mount from the front. i figured i'd screw up horribly since i'm really terrible making perfectly straight lines with my jigsaw, and i don't own a router. i see it doesnt need to be PERFECT since that big metal plate around the horn is going to cover everything. what are those four slots for? i'm assuming i could just use my jigsaw to make those too, and i don't need a router. i'm putting together ALK networks once my parts arrive, so i guess i'd stick with a three way version or else i'd feel my networks were a waste. i guess it would be okay to use the stock k55 in the 511b and use the k77 tweeter in a little box ontop of my speaker to preserve the three-way orientation. unless of course there is a way to easily/cheaply convert an ALK to a two-way crossover. i figure there's no harm in modifying my speakers, as long as i don't permanently screw them up of course.
  10. so, how do you plan on integrating them into the scalas? going to cut the hole larger? or are you going to make a seperate box for it and the tweeter ontop (because i'm assuming you'd want the tweeter higher than the squawker)
  11. i own a pair of ohm walsh speakers.. not sure which model
  12. personally, i think a professional paint finish can look just as exquisit as a veneer job.
  13. if i posessed the skill to put a piano black finish on my scalas, i'd do it in a heartbeat
  14. what brand does he use? that 30uf cap on my type-AL crossover was pretty huge []
  15. so, what do the crossovers look like on these new speakers? planning on swapping out caps?
  16. will you be designing something for the la scala in the future? i understand the horn you sell now would work, but i'd have to destroy the entire top end of the cabinet to fit it in there. as you know, it's not exactly a piece you can just screw on and off like a k-horn or belle. perhaps have the horn come out a bit with a gasket so it fits in the original hole and supply grills to accomodate the protruding horn? just some ideas...
  17. simple answer. acquire full albums and utilize the cuesheets. i think it's pretty much a standard for them to come with cue sheets these days. i stopped downloading loose mp3's about a year ago.
  18. looks like the lavry black is another contender
  19. looks a bit cramped in there. those REALLY sounded better than belles at $1900?
