  1. I also tried the Samsung (after my first Sony 975 crapped out) and I returned it and got a second 975, along with a years maintainance contract. It's worked fine so far, but I made some extra moneny and got a Denon 2910. It sounds better, mostly for cds (SACD playback is excellent on both the Denon and the Sony). Using HDMI, the Sony gives a sharper and more noise-free image, but the Denon gave far more natural colors (without any callibration!). Also the Denon has DVD-A playback, which I appreciate. So, m experience: Equally good movie sound quality, equally good SACD playback (or at least close enough so as to not bother about it) Sony gives more pristine looking pictures, but with less accurate colors. The Denon gives a more filmic image, with very natural colors, but a tad softer and a tad bit more noise (the Denon has extensive Noise reduction and sharpening controls, and perhaps time and fiddling will change this finding). And the Denon has faaaar better redbook CD playback. Anyways, good luck! Scott
  2. Sorry 'bout that guys; they are black. I am in Wyoming, but I have all the original packaging, so shipping won't be too much of a problem. I'll get right on answering those of you who have PMed me. Scott
  3. Ok, Now that I upgraded to RF and RC-7s, I have the following for sale (It will eventually go on ebay, but I wanted to give forum members first crack): 2 RF-35s 2 RB-35s and an RC-35. I will take offers on all or any of them. They are all 4 months old, were broken in properly, and are in excellent condition. I won't lie to you, they were played regularly (no "light use" here); but they were played at reasonable levels, were not abused, and are in like-new condition sonically and cosmetically. I want to find a good home where they will be appreciated. I can send photos to anyone interested. Thanks! Scott
  4. Thanks Bobby. Duff: I'm sorry, but I flew out today, and UPS still hadn't shown. It will be a week before I get back to hook up the Carver Pro and listen to it. I promise to provide my thoughts when I get back to do it. Scott
  5. Man, I got the mains and the center, which I stuck right into my system. UPS screwed up and didn't deliver my amp last night, like it was supposed to, and that killed me, even though I could still run the speakers effectively off my reciever. I don't even want to imagine how frustrated you are! Good luck, and congrats on having more patience than me! Scott
  6. Wheelman, I cannot say enough about how wonderful the Arcam is for music, whether in stereo, Neo:6, or with SACD pass-through. For example, tonight, even though I don't have a seperate amp to drive the RF-7s (thanks to the innept POS employees at UPS...but that's another story), so I'm using the reciever to drive all of them. No muddiness in the bass, and the highs aren't harsh at all. Frankly, I can't believe how good these speakers sound being driven by a reciever, sonsidering how demanding they are on amps. I honestly think it's one of the best revievers ever made. It does not have auto-EQ, etc, which I know is all the rage right now, but that's ok by me, as I'd rather adjust it manually (I'm not using the EQ at all at the moment...it isn't necessary). Scott And once again...I love the RF-7's!!!
  7. Lol! I don't have room for two systems (nor the electronics for a second). Besides, if I sell off the old system, I can get four rb-75s for surround music and truly awesome HT surround. Then I just have to start saving for an RSW-15... The b@$tards at UPS haven't dropped off my Carver Pro amp yet, even though they've had it on a truck for delivery since 7:30 this morning (ha, you gotta love online tracking). I have to leave the state tomorrow and I'll be seriously put out if I don't get to listen to my new 7's on my new amp before I leave, especially when I paid for shipping to get it here today. Still, they sound really fantastic on my reciever (Arcam makes good reciever amps)...but it's not the same (can you hear the whine...?). Still, audio-heaven even as is. Also, it's truly amazing how much better the rc-7 sounds (from every part of the room) than my "old" rc-35. Scott
  8. I think it depends on how important music is to you. If you want to emphasize music, I'd pick the Rotel 1056, which I think would be the most musical. If music isn't so important, you might want to look at the Denon or one of the other ones, which may have more gizmos related to home theater. Good luck! Scott
  9. Cherry. Which looks really nice, somewhat to my suprise (I usually like lighter woods).
  10. Congrats, you're a lucky father! Scott
  11. Well, I went down to Soundtrack, recent paycheck, saved money, and graduation money in hand and...I have now joined the elite ranks of those of you who own RF-7 systems!!! I am awaiting delivery (this evening, presumably) of my Carver Pro amp to drive them, but at the moment I'm listening to them hooked up to my Arcam AVR-300, which isn't doing too shabby a job of making them sing. The cherry finish is lighter than I'd expected, and it turns out I'm thrilled with how they look, even though I'd have preferred maple. Now I just have to sell off my old system (-35 series) so I can afford to upgrade my rear speakers to rb-75s, and I will be done purchasing speakers for quite some time. I am sooooo totally stoked! These speakers rock! Scott
  12. I'm sure an all bookshelf system will sound excellent, and I'm sure that a floorstanding system will sound somewhat better; how much and if it's worth the money depending on your room, your ears, and your budget. I went with floorstanders, and they fill my gigantic and acoustically challenged room much better than bookshelves alone do (I have 4 rb-35s, so I can A/B them). I do hope, however, that Shane-o-mac is indeed the only hick here who listens to country western... It's ok, I listen to rap, which may be the polar opposite of country, but shares about the same level of popularity with audiofiles... Scott
  13. Weird...I thought this was a joke thread! In all seriousness, my friend has 901's (they're from the late 70s or early 80s, I don't know which version). They do actually sound pretty decent. They can't hold a candle to my RF-35s, but he got them for free from his family, so the price was right. The more recent Bo$e attempts barely justify the lable "speaker" (e.g. Acoustimass). JMHO! Scott
  14. Not to be nosey but...it's a third of the way through May. Is there a rough ETA for the iFi? I had wanted to give one as a gift. Scott
  15. Let me commend you on your choice! The RF-35s are fantastic, you won't regret it! Scott
  16. Well, that's what I get for not getting to a point where I had disposable income sooner in my life... Scott
  17. "His profile says he's 14..." Lol, your logic is inescapable.. Scott
  18. ""I'm not really sure where to begin..." I am ,he is 14 " Um, assuming you are using his handle to establish age (1989), wouldn't that make him 16...? Meuge is right, there was almost certainly something wrong with the store's setup or electrionics. The Reference series is known (as are most all Klipsch speakers) for being able to go to incredibly high volumes without distorting. The RF-7 does not suck. That being said, let me assure you that La Scalas are fantastic speakers, and since the laws of physics have not altered much in the last decade or two, the age of the design will in no way impinge upon its sound quality. Although I'm a Reference fan myself, there are literally dozens and dozens of members on this board who prefer the sound of the "older" Heritage lines. You will not be dissapointed by them. Scott
  19. Indeed, apparently they didn't sell too many. I just checked audiogon, and there is indeed a set of maple RF-7s for sale...but without an RC-7 and RB-75s I still wouldn't have a matching system... I don't want to buy used anyway. It's not just the waranty (although that brings piece of mind), but I want Klipsch to profit from the purchase. I'm just a bit heart-broken at the moment. Kudo's to the support team; I emailed Klipsch about it earlier today, and I had an answer within 4 hours. Now I have to figure out which finish is my second choice. Scott
  20. Ok, it's official. I was emailed by a representative who confirmed that Klipsch has discontinued the sale of maple veneer Reference speakers altogether. Which makes me very sad, as I don't much like cherry. I guess I'll be stuck with boring old black ash. Just thought some of you might want to know. To their credit, Klipsch has taken all references to maple off their website (as of today), so others won't get their hopes up the way I have. Scott
  21. The RF-7s may "look small", but they'll fill a room that size with even half-way decent amplification. Don't get me wrong, La Scala's will too (probably a tad better), but if you want to stay with the Reference line, RF-7s have the guts to do it. Volume is a function of speaker efficiency and the power from your amp (reciever, whatever). The La Scala's are an amazing 104dB @ 1watt/1meter, and according to the Klipsch website they output a max of 121 dB SPL. The RF-7s are a still incredibly efficient 102dB @ 2.83 volts/1 meter. There is no listing for maximum output level...does anyone know that off hand? Anyways, either speaker will move a whole lot o' air. Scott
  22. So, have any of you guys have actually seen maple RB-75s then? Like actual product in front of you? Like Colter, I personally really love the look of the RF-7s in maple, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger and buy them if I can't get matching bookshelf speakers...I don't want to use black ones, and the cherry would look funny if I have maple mains and center. I wonder if a moderator could comment? Thanks, just looking for a first-person witness to give me some peace of mind... Scott
  23. So...the Klipsch website says the RB-75 is avaiable in "A contemporary selection of black, cherry or maple real wood veneers..." but I can't seem to find anyone who carries the RB-75 in maple. I really wanted to get an rf-7 setup in maple, using rb-75s as surounds (7.1). Am I just shoping at the wrong stores? I would hate to not be able to get matching speakers. Is it possible to get the bookshelfs in maple? Please? Scott http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=660&dmore=True&rmore=False
  24. Cool. I'm going to be too lazy (or, more acurately, to busy) to roll my own this time around. I trust your audio judgement, and I too like lke to hear lots of detail in my music (not to mention HT). You don't suffer any listening fatigue at all? That's all the "smoothness" I really want. Scott
  25. Russ, my reciever pre-outs are RCA, and it appears that the Carver Pro uses XLR inputs. I see that some of the user comments warn against using converters with th XR1000...so what kind of cabling would you recommend? Thanks again! Scott
