  1. This may be a silly response, but have you tried setting up the Cornwalls upside down? That way, most of the speaker would be above the couch. If the bass sounds better that way, maybe you could tilt them upwards a little so that the horn was pointed more at your listening position, but that's just my off-the-wall idea...
  2. I installed the ZoneAlarm security suite last night and overall I'm pretty pleased with it, but there is one odd thing that has happened--any of eBay's sites (eBay, eBay motors, etc...) don't load right anymore. The buttons don't show up, things that should be on the left side of the screen are on the right side and vice versa, and pretty much everything else on the side is messed up in some way. FWIW, the same thing happens when I try to open eBay in Firefox (my default browser) or in IE, so it's not necessarily the browser's fault. Is there a setting I need to change for eBay to load correctly (either in ZoneAlarm or in the browsers)?

Bass response is better than I have any reason to expect from headphones, the highs are sublime, and you'll be able to hear all sorts of detail in your recordings that you've never heard before (at least I did). IIRC, I paid ~$120 or so for them and to me, they're the sweet spot of the Grado line. Sure they make better headphones, but for triple (or more) the cost, they don't offer triple the sound quality. Some people don't care for Grado headphones' aesthetics, but I don't give a rat's arse what they look like as long as they sound good and are comfortable to wear.
  4. Lansdale, huh? I'm curious where that guy lived, since I am originally from Lansdale and my folks still live there.
  5. Forward those emails to this address: 409.fcd@usss.treas.gov "409" schemes are named that way since, IIRC, 409 is the international access code for Nigeria (where a lot of them start). "FCD" is the Financial Crimes Division of the US Secret Service.
  6. I took my wife to see that film on Friday night and I really enjoyed it. I thought some of the more technical aspects of the film (camera angles, lighting, etc...) were very well done and the acting was superb. Should it win an Oscar, the prize would be well deserved.
  7. Every now and then, I'll listen to a DVD with the TV turned off, since the soundtrack is quite nice. Case in point--the Sarah Brightman "La Luna" DVD: some of the songs she sings on that disc are much more pleasant to listen to than those same songs on her CD's ("Nessun Dorma" and "Moon River" for instance). The video, in that instance, isn't necessary to enjoy the music.

Jimmy Page for instance, in addition to very fast chops, invents crazy chords and techniques, can play slow blues with incredible power, and is an extraordinary acoustical player as well. I can't put Alex in either category, but in my mind, this is what separates the good from true greatness. Michael ---------------- What do you think of Steve Vai--both as a technical player and as an artistic player?
  9. If I had the option to do so, I'd download .wav files, since they're the most detailed. Even if you can't hear all the sound now, on a later system you may be able to pick out the details that get lost in a compressed version.
  10. Heck, I got the email last night and was tickled to death. Now I only have to wait five months until it's warm enough to wear a T-shirt. Now for my recommendations this week (they're all on CD, BTW): Sarah Brightman "Classics" Comments: She's got an AWESOME voice that is only getting better with time, the recordings are mixed so-so (often the orchestration overpowers her singing), and the cover art (especially on the back) is very very very very nice. ;-) Rancid "...And Out Come The Wolves" Comments: When I need to get rowdy, three chords, a bass, and some drums do the job--it's not particulary complex music but sometimes raucous is what fits my mood. I was channeling my high school/college freshman years this weekend and when I saw this disc on sale for $9, I had to buy it. Green Day "Dookie" Comments: Ditto the comments for the Rancid CD--they fit the same exact niche.

  12. http://www.horton-brasses.com/ http://www.ballandball-us.com/ I've used hardware from both of these sources before and they make some nice stuff. Their hardware is somewhere on the far side of expensive, but very much worth it.
  13. I just purchased the CD's "Alive Behind the Green Door" by Flogging Molly and "Out Come the Wolves" by Rancid this weekend and they're both great. They're not for everyone, but I like 'em anyway.
