  1. Tross, if your pre/preo/receiver can handle PCM tracks, then you are set. Depending on the player, wether HD-DVD or Blu-ray you may have to use HDMI or multi channel analog connectors to access the tracks as optical doesn't have the bandwith for the larger audio files. Read this for further information.
  2. Fair enough. To often I've seen people intent on upgrading for no reason other than being duped by marketing. Hope it works out and can't wait to read your reactions. You can say that again. Hollywood has had its hayday with us, and they are not through yet.
  3. Thats cool and all, but not to rain in on your parade though having an AVP that is capable of decoding these tracks may just be throwing your money away. For your consideration and anyone else contemplating a purchase soley based on the merits of 1.3 HDMI tech and HD decoding abilities: However as of this past Novemer: In practice I think its a great idea what your doing, however I wouldn't have discounted any gear you may already have had that was fully capable of decoding the tracks. Just my .02 cents.
  4. Wow. These are words I do not need to be hearing right now. My first big purchase will not be a car or house out of grad school [H]
  5. Absolutley. The 82's are a great speaker with surprisingly great bass. Space them out accordingly and enjoy a healthy 3D soundstage!
  6. And the Referrence folk demand a recount as we feel there may be a Heritage bias [] Kudos to Malotky.
  7. There are some DTS tracks that outshine DD tracks, but there are some DTS tracks (iRobot) that are simply wretched. As JB said I would lay blame on the powers at be. It may be a lisensing issue or a preferrence at the studios end.
  8. Old news which many of us gamers have been "waiting" on for about two years now. MS stated this service would be available in the US last fall, yet its already available for a few months in the UK. There was another quote in the thread regarding the future use of BitTorrent tech with the IPTV service that MS is launching in the UK. My concern for US customers is the continual file sharing lawsuits that have plagues this country. I have read on several tech blogs/forums etc that some ISP's have shutdown and threaten to terminate accounts if suspected use of BitTorrent applications/transmission are detected. To note there is nothing "illegal" about BitTorrents, it simply is the preferred mode of file sharing for just about everything.
  9. With Sony at the helm it completely understandable. Ken Kutaragi anyone?
  10. First and foremost what gear are you running?
  11. Mas, I have DEEP reservations about any streaming movie services due to America's horrible broadband infastructure. Implement this in Japan or other first world countries without a problem. However here in the states, I've seen reports where we cannot support it on a massive scale. It can be assumed this too would have to remain a small niche product. And as far as new formats, ma an pa Baker down the road can come up with any new device they woudl like. They still have to convince the studios to back them through payouts (500 Million for Warner to go Blu) or promises of security (HDCP via HDMI?) to get them on board.
  12. Agreed, tech specs tend to be ammo for fanboys to fire at each other all day long. Seen it now for over two years and its quite old. A bit more convoluted then we think. Lest we forget, regardless of the "HD" format war that has been going on, another just as relevant war has been fought in the hearts and minds of consumers: gaming. But even then, as part of the equation, the whole issue is still “unresoleved”. As I posted another forum, lets backup a quite few years down memory road? Taking care of one aspect of the equation, lest not forget the small point about gaming . Agreed. Anyone who considers this a cut and dry scenario is a fool, ignorant or a combination of both. All that can be said it to sit back and watch the show: New Line Shifts to Blu-ray Exclusivity
  13. Bested Jay? Common now. The RF35s have a much more refined sound than the F3s regardless of its entry into the market. I beleive it was a Klipsch tech who said that the F 3's were more of the spiritual succesor of the RF 3's and 3II's using their old parts such as cabinets? That being said, having demoed the 35's, and 82 side by side, its a toss up. 35's have the some of classic Klipsch punch in the upper end, where the 82's do not, but have a stronger midrange presence over the 35's. Kynergy, if you have the ability to get either the 35's or 82's, do it, they are both great products. The synergy products are not garbage, but they serve thier intended audience well. Step up into the referrence lineup for that added lair of audio refinement and enjoy.
  14. Was said DVD ever competing with another format to supplant VHS? Different ball game, different set of rules for engagment this time around.
  15. Simple: consumers who dont' know better. The massive amounts of cheap HD-DVD players that flooded the market this holiday season was indicator enough that Toshiba was clearing inventory for the inevitable, however for others who read the same add saw it as an oppurtunity to make a "good deal". O if that were only the case. So they bought the product, bought a ton of cheaper consumable media and may have felt good about it up until now. So here they are stuck with an format and a player that may ineveitably die before to long. I'm still not crazy about a Sony backed format; heck I've abandoned all thoughts of going "HD" until I'm out of grad school. In this format war, the consumer won short term, but lost overall. The competition helped gaurantee lower priced items for awhile, but with a supposed overall victory in the Blu - Ray camp, prices could very well go up higher reinforcing what I beleived all along: HD is a niche product for those who can truly appreciate it (read: afford it).
  16. What, you missed out on Lair? [] The PS3 as a gaming system is still... ahm lacking in titles. Fans are pointing to 2008 as the year the PS3 is redeemed with AAA titles to be released. In all honesty though, if you want shooters, third or first person, buy a 360 which has had many good titles for quite a while now. If you go that route, by pass Halo 3 and go straight to COD 4 as everyone I know swears by it - Activision delivered yet again anothe solid title. I'd play it, but I'm still stuck in Oblivion []
  17. Amy, Damon beat me to the punch by a minute. Could you close the topic I posted in the HT section or delete it? Thanks.
  18. NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Time Warner Inc's (TWX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) Warner Bros studio on Friday said it would exclusively release high-definition DVDs in Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) Blu-ray format, dealing a big blow to Toshiba Corp's (6502.T: Quote, Profile, Research) rival HD DVD technology. Warner Bros, Hollywood's biggest seller of DVDs, representing about 18 to 20 percent of sales in the United States, was one of the few studios that backed both formats. Source Guys n gals, I think we may have a format winner after all. Here's to peace in the HT industry for another 6 months until someone else reinvents the wheel.
  19. Cool, I have two Klipsch theaters in my city all within 15 miles.
  20. They should be, the 2's are more expensive than the 1's and have better parts and tech [Y] I'd love to get a hold of some 3's myself.
  21. Also do not discount the use of MPCM analog connections from you HD player to your processor for HD audio. Per current specs, all HD players decode the audio files at the player level, so it doesn't matter per se if your receiver can accept HD audio over HDMI. If your equppied for DVD-A and SACD then you can go HD.
  22. That is correct. If you use optical for your audio you will have the HD signal downgraded to DTS track as optical doesn't have the bandwith for the larger audio files. If outlaw hasn't announced anything with HDMI at last CES I think it may be safe to bet that HDMI will be standard in most AV products as of this coming year so pay attention to the 08 show. Good luck and have fun!
  23. Dave, Thank you very much! I just listend to Clair de Lune and I must say that this truly is a referrence recording its amazingly clear and tonally beautiful! If you don't mind, what piano was it performed on? I don't want to come off as being overtly critical and espcially disrespectful to Mr. Foster but the actual performance wasn't the best, but by far not the worst. Needs more emotion! [] I say this and now I have to dig out my sheetmusic in one of my boxes. Thank you very much for your efforts! Update: Love Handel on the Strand! Sounds alive, fun and full of enthusiasm. Reminds me of concerts back at music school. Cannot wait for you to add more peices. On that note, if you have done other recordings for CD's, where can we go about purchasing them?
  24. True, there is nothing like good ole fashion litugical organ music and full bodied pianos. Convience instead of performance is the rule of the day; tragic.
