I use the 1212 with an Alesis AI3 DAC, and am very happy with the results. ---------------- how do i get the 1212 with the speakers for $200?
  3. bring the troops home and end the madness.
  4. instead of buying one killer big do it all machine look at buying two, one fixed base and one plunge. i have 5 routers, it is so much easier to have them set up fo a specific use, they are reasonably priced and any big brand name is gonna preforme well. go to a wood working store where they will let you try them. my favorite is a pc americam classic 1/2 hp very comfy to use and does 90% of my work. the big 2.5 hp router gets the least use of all, corion edges and corion cutting is all it is used for.

The fact that they pair it up with the those lame speakers tells me though that it can't be that good of a card. If it really was a great card then it's like buying a porsche with bicycle tires. If you're looking at spending $200, then you might check out this card: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_id/122093/src=00631 It's been getting a lot of good reviews. When doing an LP to HD conversion, you're going to want to get as good of a sound card as possible. The quality of your speakers will be of no concern as long as you don't plan on EQing or anything like that (which should be a post process anyway). ---------------- thank you DrWho for looking at this card and offering your advice! i am not really good at expressing my questions but it seems as if you got this one right on. if there are any better ideas in the $200. (for a card) range please let me know. i have loads of music to re-do as i put 20k songs on my hd as mp3... prior to my forum days, so now i want to re-do them right. at least as properly as i can afford to do right now. my goal is to have all the music on a hd for an extended road trip in two years. when my second child graduates in two years i hope to leave here with my wife for a 2 yr road/camping trip where i will be able to play my music from my hd through some heresys prehaps along with xm radio in our 1941 chevy camper in progress. i am so clueless about this right now it isn't funny. but for right now i know i made a big mistake putting all this music on here as mp3. so for the next year i want to get it put on a hd as the very best format i can. with the best equipment i can afford to do the job. most of this music is on cd but some is on vinyl and has not been released as cd. some is only gonna be mp3 but that is a small amount of the total and i might find a source for better recordings for these few between now and then. it seems to me that if i do this right, i could possibly use this as a serious source for future playback on a "real stereo" when we settle down somewhere. so...any help would be greatly appreciated
  6. ok i was looking at the 0404 card and saw a bundle for 200.00, http://www.emu.com/shop/shopcategory.asp?Category=332 , i am using the stock dell speakers so these would have to be an improvement. would it be a better idea to get a better card and worry about the speakers later? i mainly want to record some vinyl to my hd.
  7. today my oldest child graduates from high school so i though i had better get the camera ready, charge the battery etc. etc. seems as though it has taken it's last bow, i was a bit bummed, heck i just got the thing and paid a thousand plus to boot. as i sat *****ing my wife pointed out to me that we actually got the thing 13 yrs ago, 5 trips out west, 4 times to florida, my daughters gymnastics competitions, my sons soccer games, every first day of school for both kids, parties, birthdays, gardens, cars, trucks, pets, family and friends all on film from the little sony. the bison laying 10 feet from our tent one morning out in yellowstone (keeping us from getting to the privy) with a hundred or so laying or walking about, the bear family at the tetons, and the huge bull moose that came across the creek right into our campsite out in montana, the whales off the coast of california, the rattlesnake that crossed our path while hiking at yosemite, and the eagles all grouped in trees in alaska are just some of the images the little gizmo preserved for us to view when we want. i need to get to the store and pick up a new camera, i wouldn't want to be without one today.

  12. just run a screw into the face of the amp just about mid-point of the rotation of the volume leaving it sticking out about 1/2", then place another screw into the volume knob placing it in a way that will hit the first screw limiting the travel beyond the danger point. nothing to it

  14. Thanks for all the great ideas. Glass tops will be ordered today. We compromised, if she keeps all liquids, potential liquids, and things that require liquids off the speakers i will fight the urge to get a Harley. now i kinda hope to find a plant up there
  15. that is a hard one to answer, i really like the way these fortes sound. i need to compare them side by side and see. the corns might be in the garage since they aren't as pretty and i spend a lot of time in there as well as the office/living room.

  17. darn it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5778965739&rd=1&rd=1 close to me, just don't want to compete in here.
  18. i think the total amps are divided among all channels, how i know not. ie 700 watt total amp running a 6.1 channel system would have about 100wpc.
  19. Hawaii is nice and thing grow sooo well there
  20. how many think it is obsessive to ask your spouse to refrain from placing a bowl of water with flowers in it on your speaker that you have waited 30 yrs to own??? it didn't seem like that big of a request to me, but then i'm a guy. i really like these speakers. does that seem obsessive or just being cautious?
