  1. Born in Texas. There till 6. Grew up most of my younger years in New York (south of Buffalo). Could not WAIT, could NOT physically WAIT to come home. Haven't been back in twenty years... Friend, I miss the trees, I miss the Lake (Erie), I miss the wine country and vineyard I grew up on. I miss 18 mile creek, Shea's Buffalo Theater top balcony and $2 cases of Genny Cream Ale. Don't miss dingus day, crumbling infrastructure, state income taxes that go to the 'City' (New York), bankrupt city government (Buffalo), state police that think they are dirty Harry or large winter women (MY experience, no offense to the large amonst us - I am no wilting daisy myself, but my Texas wife sure is purty - had to come home to find her!). There is a reason why everyone up in Western New York knows the old polka, "I don't want her, you can have her, she's too ....." You need to come to Ft. Worth, I don't cross the Trinity into Dallas unless it is an emergency, seriously. And over here (for the most part), the only cows you are going to see have hooves. Oh and it was 84 here yesterday, and dry as a bone. EDIT - Haven't seen an armadillo in years...but we have sure seen a LOT of yankees (literally, THOUSANDS) moving in to the Metroplex who don't think this place is half bad... If it can't be the Frogs, Hook-em horns! K
  2. Isn't another name for the Jubilee the "Cleanzomatic"? Right placement, right disc, and we could have the GR up and scrubbing in no time! Anyone for a nice juicy red-meat steak? K
  3. Hey, I, like you apparently, am much more concerned with the audio portion of the player, and I picked up a used like new Denon 1920 locally for $250 and was glad to get it...I find that if you look around, you will find them going for cheap due to the fact that the player has a known flaw in the HDMI video switching on-off thingy...something that is well dicussed in the audiocircle, avs forum and places like that. Since I am still using a crt via s-video, it don't mean squat to me ( I am waiting till all this format, definition, plasma, HDTV, LCD, DLP, XYZ crap calms down ) They had discussed a firmware fix, but I don't even know if that is possible with this player, so you throws the dice. The 1920 was my first Denon, and let me tell you, if you have not heard SACD before, you are in for a treat. I have been amazed at the sound quality; the 1920 has a "pure" pass through button that shuts off the on screen display and the player display to give you the "purest signal path"...this may be hokum, but couple that with the straight 8 channel path on my pre/amp, and it is glorious to hear - audible difference. Much too bad the format is already dead but just don't know it; ah well let us praise the Ipod, brethren, and the demise of sound as we know it. If the video glitch is not a problem for you, I highly recommend the Denon - I have not used the Samsung, of course, but I can give the Denon a pretty rousing endorsement, and it is a steel at retail IMHO, and you can definitely get it cheaper. 4. Some of what I am reading here is just absurd. I have heard in our popular media about the increasing sense of "entitlement" rampant in our culture, but I have taken all that with a grain, but here is the perfect example. You are not "entitled" to be a jerk, ever. Much less a rude, condescending, defamatory, argumentative, pin head. Ever. No more than you would be able to go into the theater and yell "fire" (there is a limit to your so-called first amendment rights - and kudos for you Amy in correctly reciting the public vs. private nature of free speech). What this or any other forum lacks is the personal consequences that used to come with your being a jerk at an inappropriate time, namely getting your teeth rearranged. The wonderful internet allows the revenge of the weak, so that they may cower behind their computer screens and be patently and most of the time unreasonably offensive, without any recourse. Enter the need for moderators; in this evolved society, we shouldn't require them but here they are, because folks can't figure out how not to be tools, nope they are "entitled" to be as vicious and small as they want. The idea that somehow hiring black people at Denny's even remotely has any bearing on a private forum policy is well just absolutely laughable, first because the law has defined those persons who require protection from discrimination as a "class", that generally being blacks, women, seniors, the handicapped and children. Stating that somehow old, rude long time speaker owners somehow deserve the same protections as the disadvantaged minorities or elderly of this country, is at first ridiculous and is secondarily offensive. You are not "entitled" to say anything you want, you are not "entitled" to free handouts, or to unlimited government assistance, or to abuse the hospitality of our hosts, who in this matter happen to be Klipsch. He (or SHE) who hold the keys makes the rules, that is how it is in my car, in my house and on this forum. In your forum you may treat anyone how you choose, in this forum, you will do what you are told if you wish to participate, that is simple even for those of you who beleive yourself smarter than the rest of us. And by the way, I was one of those poor schmucks who owned a Promedia 5.1 system whose amp went bad out of warranty, and I too thought Klipsch handled it very very poorly, and I thought the criticism that Dragonfyr heaped on the upset newbie was harsh and unnecessary, because at the time I wanted to tear someone's head off too. SO what does that make me? Before you answer, view my sig below. Sorry Amy, I think you do a great job, keep it up. **Illegitimi Non Carborundum** K
  5. Hey man, I am ahead of you on the RC hunt..don't forget! Bruce
  6. Hey, I tried to answer this before, but it didn't work, so I am trying again. First, the dimensions of the risers (the original optional Heresy stand that came from the factory) are here on the forums, you will find them. Second, I need my Heresys up a little higher than the risers, which are really pretty low to the ground, but I wanted an angled stand, and something that was sturdy enough to hold them. Well I found some really cheap little stands that do a great job at Ikea, I couldn't find the link for you, so I took some picts that follow. It was like they were made for my Heresys, and I think they were something like $14.00 bucks per.
  7. What a &*ck - come on down here twit and we will have a talk about manners. Congrats to your daughter, having a mother who decided when I was in high school to go into nursing in her 50's and graduate with honors, I have lived through the whole process and it was tortuous for <me> - I can only imagine how proud you must be. Wish her the best for us. K
  8. Hey Anakin, You were talking about an illustrator file with that logo you did above, do you still have it and could you e-mail to me? OR, if anyone else has that logo illustrator file, could you e-mail to me? It would be very very helpful. Bruce
  9. Hey, did you look at the other speakers? What is up with that? Apparently, they have a pair with an LED readout in the base, and a remote control, for the speakers? I looked at the one design and it looks way cool, but there are amps in the things driving everything...I just don't know, they looked strange but awesome in that EU sort of way. Anybody care to follow up on these things and give an impression? I would be very curious to hear this sub. Mike, strangely enough it appears that the specs on the right are in English, just the description in german, I am going to babelfish the paragraphs, and see what the skinny is. K
  10. Thanks for the replies. I am really not in the position to buy any more speakers or audio crap (as I have dropped a nickle or two this year on this stuff), but I have been offered a gift by a client and it might as well be something like an RC-7! I just have to tell him what to pay for it, and I am trying to be nice and get a used one...I am a sap. Well my RF-7's were gifts too, so I guess I am on a roll. Anyways, I usually check with audiogon frequently, but to be honest, I just haven't gotten a warm fuzzie from some of the listers on that site. When I was looking for amps, I made a few inquiries as to the cosmetic condition etc., and the repsonse I got was rude as hell. Just didn't know what to think; figured I could place my ad here and trust ya'll a lot more than some nameless faceless on audiogon. I like the center i have now, but to be honest, it is just not up for the challenge of running with the RF-7 fronts...when I run the test tones for the 7 channel, the sound difference between the 7's and the KSP-C6 is really something else. THey both sound good, but very very different, and if they are going to start phasing out the Reference line as we know it, I want to get while the getting is good... So come on now, somebody must have a friend of a friend who knows someone's grandma who has a sister who gets a good discount... Bruce
  11. Hey, I guess now is the time to start collecting the matching components for these RF-7's. I want to start with an RC-7, black, local hopefully - decent price a must - used or new. Let me know if anyone comes accross a good deal. Thanks, Bruce
  12. Michael, Awesome, this will help tremendously. I will get something out to you. Bruce
  13. OK, cool! My surrounds had a keyhole in back, but inside the keyhole mount, there were holes with threads that I could screw in the post from the omnimount...you just need to make sure the threads are the same. I was able to find through searching on the net and the Klipsch site, what the thread separation was, and the threads matched the mount. The mounts are very clean and unobtrusive, IMO, and I don;t worry about anything falling. I am going to assume, that if Omnimount matched the 20.0 mount to that speaker specifically, then they already know what it is going to do. Go for over kill when it comes to weight, better a mount that will hold more weight than less. Good luck! K
  14. The SB-1's are listed on the Klipsch site as front mains in their own right, yes? So in other words, they don't have keyhole thingys on the back of them to put a screw head into to mount them on the wall? They are also going to need to be directional if you ae going to mount them from the ceilings... Your post title references stands, do you want wall mounts or floor stands? Actually I have suggestions for both. I am not sure how big these things are or how heavy, but if you are going to want to mount them from the ceiling or the wall, you will probably have to modify them (screw the mount into the back of them). I highly reccomend Omnimounts, the site is a little difficult to get around but they will actually have a specific mount for your speaker and you can match it - http://www.omnimount.com/%5Cproduct.asp?p=54 Now mind you, they are pricey, but they are sturdy too, hold my surrounds very nicely. They have speaker stands too, haven't used them, but I would check them out if I were you. Radio Shack makes a nice tubular steel small speaker stand that I use with my computer speakers (also Klipsch) that puts those things right up by your head, well made and not terribly expensive. Hope this helps! K
  15. Mike! Just got your message, I will give you a buzz soon, tonight, I hope - If I am not in the office too long. The etched glass logos are coming well, they are sharp as hell, will fill you in when I talk to you. Thanks for the replies, I am going to try to see if my lacquer thinner will dissolve this stuff, that was a good idea. I am goiing to try and get some picts up too, so you can all see what I am talking about. Thanks again. K
  16. Thanks for the replies. I guess I wan't clear, the Heresys I am talking about are HBR, that is the previous owner stained/lacquered/ did something to a pair of raw birch speakers (I thought I pointed that out, sorry if it wasn't directly said). They are Heresy I's with the butt joined edges, so even if I could reveneer the things, I don't see how I could reveneer and keep the original butt joined edges? But veneering seems like more of a hassle then just sanding the things down, especially since I want to make them black...AND, the corners are mint and relatively square unmashed...with no to few scratches at all...I think with a little time I could make these things shine. NO, I am not doing just the tops of the speakers, but all 6 sides, motorboard, edges, the whole kit...The residual brown color from the stain/lacquer/what-have-you is not real dark, just there...hence my question. I would love to learn someday to reveneer these things, but I certainly want to keep these H1.5's as original as possible... Hey, how does Klipsch do that industrial rock finish on the black commercial speakers? Do they do the texture first, and then paint them, or is the paint itself textured? ( I always thought those were cool.) Thanks again for the replies... K
  17. Hey all, I posted a while ago about a pair of Heresy's that I picked up for $200.00, (entitled "Frankenspeakers?"), and I am trying to sand and refinish them right now, and I have a few questions. First, the finish that was used on them was an oak lacquer, I am assuming, and it was not applied terribly well...the finish was shiny but bumpy, like the lacquer was left on overnight and it attracted dust and dirt? One the top of one speaker, the lacquer was almost opaque solid brown, couldn;t the grain at all, looked like brown paint. Also, I have surmised that the owner had never even taken the grills off these things, and this was borne out by the fact that the lacquer dripped down onto the black face above the tweeters about an inch and a half all the way across the top of each speakers motorboard...a shiny spiky edge on the matte black paint...fortunately the stuff didn't enter the horns... Other than that, the corners are perfect, very few gouges, and they sound good...so I am in the process of refinishing them. I would like to make them black stained...but here is the problem. I have sanded one of them gently down as far as i dare, but the brown lacquer in still apparent in shadows on the surface of the ply; I do not want to sand any further, lest I sand off the top layer, but I am afraid that if I go ahead and get them smoothed down, and apply an oil based ebony stain, it will be darker when the brown is andd be blotchy. Is there any way to bleach (for want of better phrase) the birch down to get it to blonde, so that the stain will be even when applied, or should I just paint the things black? I thought of rounding over the corners, but I would like to maintain the integrity of the cabs if possible. Anybody have a good black stain they would recommend? If staining is not going to work, and get them as dark as i would like, I am then considering the industrial black pebbled finish...what do you guys think? TIA, K
  18. OLORIN, I said I *felt* bad, not that I was bloody stupid. Mike, these things were about the size of a six by six, with one edge beveled off and tweets on two of the edges, with an interior little tiny downfiring woofer...kind of hard to explain. They aren't much around these days for resale, probably because they ^sucked^. Oh well, went out tonight and blew the cash on beer, so I guess I am all better...beer, is there anything it can't do? K
  19. Ok, look - I had to come here to unload my conscience. I have had a pair of Bose tower speakers (little 501's) from 1994, bought at a big box, never really used when I was in college because I didn't know any better. Tape on grey vinyl veneer, tiny little cone tweeters, good condition, but just nasty. That was hard to admit here. More easily admitted, they have been unhooked and sitting in a closet since I brought home my CWII's 5 or 6 years ago, put them side-by-side and the Bose sounded like utter and complete trash in comparison. Now, in defense of the towers, they are much much smaller, but still, they just sounded horrid. Now to the point, I just sold them. To a nice young guy who whipped out an Ipod to demo them, with a mini-RCA jack wire to connect to a Yamaha amp (that has no mini-connections)...all I could do was slip a phone cord into the AM antennae clip, and play him some AM Tejano...he listened to make sure all the ports were pushing air...and walked out with them...and his IPOD. MAN, do I feel bad. I feel like I stole his money, all <hundred> bucks he paid for these paperweights. Good grief. With the IPOD, he probably won't recognize the difference, but still... K
  20. Oh to be keeper of the cheese. K
  21. You are kidding? 6 Rf-7's off that Yamaha? Wow. I felt that the pair (2) that I had were laboring my Yamaha (that has higher wattage than yours) - it was running pretty hot all of the time just with those two, hence why I decided to upgrade. I think that you will be amazed at how much more detailed the sound will be when you put some more horses under those RF's - making some room for the impedance dips alone will take years off your receiver... Good luck! K
  22. With the disclaimer that I have not seen this movie since the early 90's, am I mistaken that the guy was not just smeared with dog crap, but he was forced to eat it too? Curious minds want to know... Eeekkk... K
