  1. When I purchased my RF-7's used they came with DeanG crossovers. While I can't AB compare them to stock RF-7's they sound fantastic. Since I have a stock RC-7 it does not blend well with the RF-7's with music. I plan on recapping the RC-7 in the future.
  2. Youthman, I have the same RF-7 HT speaker system you have. The RS-7 surrounds are more forgiving then what they appear on paper. The rear seats will not be ideal but with the visual effects from the screen you will feel like you are part of the movie. I had the same situation about a sub for my HT system. The RSW-15's are hard to come by in the used market. I ended up getting an SVS PB-12+2 and it is a very large sub and can fill a very large room. I prefer it only for movies and not for music, the RF-7's provide plenty of good clean bass. Once I get my Avia2 DVD then I can better setup the sub since it sounds too boomy for music. For movies it rocks, I played Twister the other day and it felt like the tornado's were in my family room. I keep the sub at 1/4 level and with the right type of movie it shakes the house, I can't imagine wanting to have two of these subs. I have my Klipsch 5.1 surround system bi-amped with 140 watts and it is capable of playing louder then movie theathers and concerts.
  3. No my Pioneer receiver does not have HDMI 1.3 support. It is a older model that I choose to go with my Pioneer Plasma which has 720 resolution and not the newer 1080 resolution. I did get the firmware update which fixed the LFE problem and can play DVD's through the receiver over HDMI. My entire HT setup consisted of older model equipment which I saved a bundle from buying the current models. Since I don't plan on getting a HD DVD or Blue Ray in the near future, my HT equipment will suffice for a while.
  4. I am very happy with my Pioneer Elite receiver driving my Klipsch RF-7 home theater setup. If is wasn't for the fact that my Plasma TV wasn't Pioneer, my next choice of receivers would have been a Denon.
  5. The Hitachi receiver sounds like it is the SR-2004 model which has a class G amp that can double the power for short durations (peaks). I don't have any experience with Hitachi since I have the Pioneer SX-1980 and still use it. I have noticed with Klipsch speakers the volume control almost never exceeds 50% on my Pioneer receiver however it is nice to have the headroom. I appreciate the vintage audio gear especially the "monster" receivers from the 70's.
  6. Thats what I said before I bought my RS-7's. Is your wife still pissed about the size of your SVS subwoofer? Why don't we pack-up our wife's and send them over to Dtel's house for some speaker edicate. The RS-62 would be a better match then the in-wall speakers you listed, they are taller then the RS-7's but not as wide.
  7. The wife is not giving me a hard time about the surrounds since I took them down after I was done listening to them. I will need to break in the wife slowly and start leaving them up on the wall as well as make some grills for them to help protect the woofer. Jonathan, I don't have experience with the surround speakers that you listed however looking at the specs, neither of them have the power handling or the efficiency of the RS-7's which are the matching surrounds for the RF-7/RC-7's. The CDT-5800C comes the closest at 94dB but is rated only for 50 watts. After hooking up my RS-7's I calibrated them through the A/V receiver and due to the efficiency of the speakers it adjusted them all by -9.0dB.
  8. Dtel & wife, I'm afraid that if I sent my wife over to your place that she would pack my speakers and drop them off with me at your front door. Here are some photos of my HT setup and my SVS sub: The A/V gear on the coffee table needs to be cleaned up once we decide on some cabinets, but overall I think the speaker setup looks quite respectable.
  9. I did not sense anything negative about your post, you were just stating the facts. The seller should pull the advertisment for the equipment that they cannot get, isn't that considered bait and switch? BTW, there is a pair of RS-7's currently on e-bay.
  10. The RF-7's/RC-7 was the beginning, the SVS broke the camels back, and now I am dealing with the RS-7's. I had to put the SVS in the living room where it can double as a lamp table, fortunately it is gloss black. There are double doors which open to the family room where my HT setup is. Since the SVS can fill the entire house with thundering bass the location is not a problem. Dtel's wife: I am breaking in the wife slowly, I mounted the screws on the wall for the RS-7's and had the wife get some movies from the library. I offered to mount the RS-7's for her movies but she is still pouting about the size of my HT speakers and about the screws. I need to get some proper screws from the hardware store and paint them to match the wall. I had them mounted on the wall when the wife wasn't home and I thought that they look like part of the family room. I will take some pics and post them. I couldn't imagine mounting my Forte's on the wall. Dvcdude: Sorry to hear about places that advertise speakers that they no longer have for sale. You could keep trying e-bay if you don't mind used speakers, they usually have a pair up about every 2 to 3 months.
  11. I also have a Pioneer SX-1980 and after almost 30 years I am still listening to it and love the sound. If you do decide to go with the McIntosh don't sell your Pioneer, they don't make them like that anymore.
  12. I got them from e-bay. The seller listed them for $275 Buy It Now. They are white without grills. I actually got them the other day and after cleaning them up and they are amazing. (The seller needs to cut back on his smoking). I am very happy with the sound both with 7-channel stereo and surround. The next issue is mounting them, like the rest of my speakers the wife thinks that they are too big. With the RS-7's you need to check listings often since they tend to sell fast especially with low buy it now options. There are places like this: http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/core/view_BigProduct.cfm?pid=532&sc=29 that sell them for around $700.
  13. I own a Panamax 5100EX which offers filtered outlet banks, high current outlet banks, surge protection, over/under voltage protection and satellite, antenna, telephone and ethernet surge protection.
  14. Damn, I almost forgot about my first stereo system. I had a 80W pioneer receiver with AAL speakers. I didn't have it long since I sold the system to my sisters boyfriend, I upgraded to the 270W pioneer receiver with speakerlab speakers. As I recall the AAL were good beginner speakers. The sound was decent for the low price. The quality of the drivers were low as well as the very basic x-over network.
  15. It was an inside joke (I hope) since my previous neighbor is a divorce attorney. I broke the news tonight (in front of neighbors) that I purchased surround speakers for my HT system. I will work with my wife as to how they will be mounted. My wife thinks that I am taking over the entire house with my speakers. I have my 2 channel in the basement with 270 watts per channel feeding the Fortes and now my RF-7's bi-amped with 140 watts X7 feeding them. Since I like my music lifelike (loud) my entire family and neighbors can appreciate my Klipsch speakers.
  16. I have yet to be disappointed with a Klipsch product. It all started with my Fortes and now a RF-7 system. One of these days I will have my sons help me haul the RF-7 downstairs and do an AB comparison with the Fortes. The Fortes sound like they have more punch but I suspect it is due to the receiver driving them. Unfortunately or fortunately (depends on the situation) I would love to have a pair of Klipschorns.
  17. Frzninvt you are correct, I've been working hard at work with little vacation time off and putting in overtime as well as agreeing to re-due the kitchen. With that said I just ordered a pair of RS-7's to complete my HT setup. I just hope I didn't take advice from a divorce attorney. How does the Speakerlab K's perform against the Klipschorn's? My first speakers were Speakerlab 30's.
  18. Thanks for the input however I used up my wife favors when she agreed for me to purchase the SVS sub. Once it was delivered all hell broke loose. I even offered to keep the RS-7's off the wall and mount them when I would watch a movie but she didn't go for that either. I do have another angle since we are in the process of selecting new kitchen cabinets and counter tops I just might sneek in some surrounds.
  19. Very nice work shepjk01, I was at your place when you brought these home. They look better then new now.
  20. My HT consists of RF-7's, RC-7 and SVS PB-12 +2 and the matching surround speaker would be the RS-7. The problem is my wife is already horrified by the size of the the speakers mentioned above and when I showed her a picture of the RS-7's she immediately shot them down. My HT is mainly used for movies since I have an independent 2 channel setup in the basement. Does anyone have any recommendations on matching surrounds for my HT setup? They don't need to be current production surrounds, I prefer the used market. I was thinking along the lines of Paradigm ADP-190's for the size but don't know how they would match (acoustically) with my existing speakers. I would also like them to keep up with the 140 watts that my HT receiver puts out.

    subs

Down firing subs are more kid and pet friendly.
  22. I purchased his black RF-7's/RC-7 and I am very pleased. I would recommend picking them up since they are too nice to let them get damaged in shipping. Shepjk01, I ordered a SVS PB12 plus 2 sub over the weekend, the wife is going to crap when it arrives. You should try out a tube amp with those cornwalls. Are you getting Klipschorns to mate up with the cornwalls?
  23. I still have my SX-1980 (powering Klipsch Forte's) and it still holds its own. I recently purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi receiver to power my RF-7's and after some tweeking it sounds great. With the Pioneer Elite set-up in bi-amp mode driving the RF-7's the SX-1980/Forte combo overpowers the Elite/RF-7 combo. Once I add a subwoofer to the Elite/RF-7 combo they may even out. I am new to A/V receivers and there is alot of settings/adjustments that need to be tweeked to make them sound decent. Most of the adjustments are hidden in the software unlike the old receivers that used conventional knobs.
  24. Give the RF-7's a listen and the choice will be clear.
  25. I recently purchased used RF-7's (with DeanG x-overs) and an RC-7, I would take this system over the RF-62/52 system anyday. I like my music loud and the louder I turn up the RF-7s' the sound stage gets closer and closer until you feel like you are on stage without a hint that the RF-7's are straining. I don't have any surrounds or sub at the moment but I am on the lookout for a nice used set. You didn't mention on how the RF-62 compaired to the RF-7 or what you plan on driving your speakers with.
