Your receiver is over 30 years old. Chances the caps in the protection circuit may need replacing along with adjusting the DC balance and idle current of the power amp. I suggest you post in the Pioneer Audio section of AudioKarma, very knowledgeable people over there: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php BTW I still use my SX-1980 and still love it.

show us your FORTES / CHORUS speakers
Southern replied to quadklipsh's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Here are a couple of pics of my Fortes which have been modified for bi-amping: -
I'm interested. Looks like you have an all-grain setup. I have some equipment but not all to brew all-grain. I would be interested in more info/pics of your brew setup.

I did the same when I modded my RC-7 crossover: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/135665/1374176.aspx#1374176 You have certainly been busy modding your crossovers and Emotiva gear. Hope you have a chance to sit back and enjoy all your hard work.

Sorry for the offensive remark Dean. I didn't compare them side by side, in fact they were in totally different environments but my comment was in reference to the smooth high end of the modded RF-7 vs the RF-83, especially if you drive the RF-7 with a tube amp.

What're you driving your Forte IIs with?
Southern replied to Paul Folbrecht's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
1. That you are single. 2. I wouldn't want to have a stereo war with you. -
Hook it up in place of one of your main speakers and play music through it. If it sounds normal then it isn't your RC-7, it may be your A/V receiver. If you still have the "tweeting" sound then you can remove the crossover from the back and disconnect each speaker one at a time to help determine the source of the problem.

SET12 was the one who suggested adding the resisitor to my Dynaco. I put a 16 ohm loading resistor (two 8 ohm resisitors in series) across the output of the Dynaco amp. No mod to the crossover required. Here is the thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/132967.aspx?PageIndex=1

I've heard frankphess DeanG RF-7's with his VRD monoblocks and I was impressed with the low end, it sounded very natural and extended lower then any tube amp I've heard. Then again I've never listened to the Silver Seven's.

What're you driving your Forte IIs with?
Southern replied to Paul Folbrecht's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I have my Forte's bi-amped (Dynaco ST-70 on the mid/highs Pioneer SX-1980 on the lows) and never looked back. -
My Dynaco ST-70 has no problems with the RF-7's, since the Dynaco is only driving the horns on the RF-7's it is hardly being pushed causing the Dynaco to run at class A. Since the HF crossover section is a capacitive load I installed a 12 watt Mills resisitor across the speaker outputs on the tube amp to create a resistive load on the tube amp. Glad to hear that the resisitor mod made a big improvment.

RC-7, RF-7 and RF-82 crossover schematic?
Southern replied to Andrea C.'s topic in Technical/Restorations
Since I just replaced the Caps & resistors on my RC-7 I don't have the inductor values but here are the capacitor& resisitor values: Low Frequency Section: Resisitors: 1.5 & 2.0 Ohm Capacitors: 24 uF & 28 uF High Frequency Section: Resisitors: (2) 2.0 Ohm Capacitors: 3.75 uF, 12 uF, & 18 uF. Resistors are 10W, Capacitors are 100V. Here is a write-up I did modifiying my RC-7 with pictures. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/135665/1374176.aspx#1374176 -
RC-7, RF-7 and RF-82 crossover schematic?
Southern replied to Andrea C.'s topic in Technical/Restorations
Welcome Andrea, The caps have the values in MFD on them along with the voltage rating. If you are just replacing your caps then you won't need a schematic for the value of the inductors. I have DeanG crossovers in my RF-7's and modified my RC-7 and I am very happy with them. If the RC-7/RF-7's seem a little bit on the bright side, I would recommend the resisitor mod that DeanG uses. The mod makes the RC-7/RF-7 sound more like the RC64/RF-83's. -
That's what I told myself, I ended up installing spikes on my Forte's, inexpensive improvment that was worth it.

MissMiller, Klipsch speaker use a seperate crossover network "box" instead of soldering components to the drivers. My suggestion would be to keep your phone away from your home theater system. I have listened to a Logitech squeezebox: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/wireless-music-systems/devices/5745 that can play wi/fi/mp3 music through your system from a computer. Provided you can connect a seperate amp to your Sony A/V receiver, a popular amplifier that has good feedback are the Emotiva amplifiers: http://emotiva.com/xpa3.shtm The XPA-3 is a 3 channel amp that will drive two main speakers and the center channel, the XPA-5 is a 5 channel amp both with pleanty of power. I don't own Emotiva amps but I have listened to them and I am impressed with their sound and build quality.

My DeanG RF-7's sound very similar to the RF 63/83's. Dean uses a resisitor to bring down the horn resonant peak which may account for the harshness you are hearing. I highly recommend the DeanG x-over upgrade to your RF-7's and would also recommend a tube amp running the modded RF-7's. Search for (DeanG RF-7) and you will find more favorable posts.

Going to see Styx, Foreigner & Kansas tonight!
Southern replied to wuzzzer's topic in General Klipsch Info
Several years ago I bought Styx Equinox CD, previously I originally owned this album on 8-track (don't laugh it was my very first stereo system). To this day when I listen to the CD I am waiting for the song to fade out to switch tracks. I can still tell (when I listen to it) which songs and exactly when it was about to switch tracks but of course the CD version doesn't switch tracks. Glad you and your wife had a great time, unfortunately my wife and I don't have the same taste in music. At least my middle son and I share the same music taste. -

The best part of this concert is that they are playing at a small (4600 seat) theater venue. For both concerts I have center section balcony seats, my son and I prefer acoustics over how close we are to the stage. -

My son gave me the Snakes and Arrows for fathers day, I feel that this better the the R30 DVD I own. I remember back in the day my chest pounding to Neil Peart's double bass drums, hopefully I can experience that again even though Neil is down to one bass drum. -
Klipsch for rock music: Heresy III or KLF 20 Legend?
Southern replied to Little Wolf's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Is that possible ? My wife gave up on trying to shout above my music, now when I turn up the volume the doors in my house slam shut even if they are already closed. -

I enjoy the bands from the 70's/80's. July 5th I am going to see Rush with my 21 year old son. The last time I saw Rush was back in the late 70's when I was in high school. I also have tickets to see the Scorpions in August, Michael Schenker Group is the opening band. -

I know what you mean by "Significant Other". I still don't believe that there exists a girlfriend/wife who is an audioholic. Regarding the "ultimate" set of components and upgrades to the Forte reminds me of SET12's setup: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/132614/1345695.aspx#1345695 I havn't heard his setup but now people who have (like SWL). -
Could it be that he is missing the jumpers on the RC-64?
