  1. Enjoy!! http://www.coorslight.com/iceswipe/
  2. I'll say! Next time try taking pictures other than the big red X that was in the parade!
  3. Thanks! I found out about the Oppo after I posted the question. I understand the picture quality is outstanding with the Faroudja. How about the audio output?
  4. My old Sony 200 disc changer sounds terrible with my system. I simply use it as a CD storage device now and play music through a $50 Magnavox DVD player. Sounds pathetic, I know, but the Magnavox sounds much better than the Sony. I want to get a new/used DVD player that has excellent CD audio also. I'd be looking in the $200 +- price range. Let me know which ones to consider. Thanks!
  5. I've noticed similar distortion on many movies and tv shows. I think it's just the audio engineers not giving a crap. [8o|]
  6. My new (to me) HK 730 is doing great after fixing 98% of the crackling volume knob problem. I found out something while fiddling with the bass/treble tone controls. The bass control knob looks like it is set up at it is supposed to, lines up with the little markings for its lowest and highest points (7 o'clock lowest and 5 o'clock highest). The treble, however, is way out of alignment. At its lowest setting, the indicator mark on the knob is pointing at about the 5 o'clock position, when it should be pointing at the 7 o'clock position. The highest point is around the 3 o'clock position. After roughly figuring where the mid-way point should be (10 o'clock) the high frequencies sound MUCH better. Watching Phantom of the Opera tonight gave me chills as the music and singing was incredibly full of depth. Is there any way to safely remove and re-position the knob so that it is flat at the 12 o'clock position? I tried pulling on it just a little bit and it doesn't seem to budge. I don't want to break anything! Not a big deal but it just bugs me.
  7. After getting the crackling volume knob problem fixed, I can say that I absolutely love my 730 that I just got. $79.99 buy-it-now on eBay! Midrange vocals seem to be much more realistic. Listening to the Eagles Farewell Tour DVD, Glen Frey's voice sounds a million times more natural than my old Sony receiver. The treble is still bright somewhat, but much more natural sounding. Cymbals sound like cymbals. Triangles sound like triangles. With most recordings, the volume knob at the 10 o'clock position plays the music incredibly louder than I expected from a 'low wattage' amp. Just goes to show what you get when you get some real watts.
  8. My wife and I had some friends over for lunch today. Afterwards she was washing the dishes and I was drying them. I had only dried a few plates when my wife dropped a knife on my foot. Now, this wasn't your ordinary paring knife. No, this was a foot and a half long, serrated Wusthof extra razor sharp knife she used for cutting the cake she made. [] End result? Me with a gash going about 1/4"+ and 1/2" long into the side of my right foot. She thought nothing happened at first because there wasn't any blood. Well, not for 30 seconds or so. Then it started a-flowin'. At least I got out of doing any more dishes!
  9. 1)Your receiver has a subwoofer pre-out. Use RCA cables to hook up the receiver to the subwoofer. The satellites should then be hooked to the high level speaker outputs on the back of the receiver. - or - 2)You can also hook the subwoofer to the high level speaker outputs and then hook the satellites to the high level speaker outputs on the subwoofer. Method #1 is generally preferred.
  10. I work in jewelry sales and many times I get people who are just 'tire kickers.' Example: groups of 15 year old boys in to try on Rolexes. Have we ever sold a Rolex directly to a 15 year old? No. Have we ever sold a Rolex to the 15 year old's parents for them to give to the 15 year old? You bet. Now, I'm not saying that every kid coming in the store gets to try on every Rolex we have. But, I at least answer their questions and get them excited about them. Being located in a mall, we also have young girls stop in and try on engagement rings every day. The nicer and more accomodating we are to them when they first come in, the more likely they are to come back later when they have a boyfriend. And to me, it doesn't matter if they end up spending $500 or $50,000. Its the satisfaction that they came back because you treated them well and that's $500 or $50,000 that the other jewelry stores in town will never see. Moral of the story is you never know how your actions might affect a future sale. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to spend more money for better service.
  11. PM me with a price on the LF-10, please! (From St. Cloud, MN)
  12. Well, the seller gave me the tip to turn the volume knob all the way up and back down 50-100 times (receiver unplugged of course!) Seemed to have solved the problem, there's only a very faint static-type sound at the lower levels on the volume knob. As far as the pre-outs go, my sub doesn't play with the volume off. The pre-out level is not fixed and is controlled by the volume knob. If I turn the volume all the way down, there's no sound from the sub.
  13. I received my HK 730 today, however something is terribly wrong with it! I hooked up my speakers and also my DVD player just to test it out. I made sure I had the volume turned all the way off when I turned the receiver on. I turned the stereo on and sound only was coming from my subwoofer. Couldn't figure out why, then I noticed that I forgot to push in the button to activate the speakers. [:$] After turning the receiver on, an incredibly loud crackling sound came from my right speaker when I just barely touched the volume knob. I checked all connections, unhooked and re-connected them. Same thing. I also hooked my speakers up to the other speaker inputs. Same thing. The crackling sound is loud enough that I think my speakers will blow, NOT something that I want to happen! I tried it without using the pre-out and pre-in to my subwoofer. Same thing. This sucks! It crackles like my Mom and Dad's old Emerson stereo, except a million times louder. HELP! (I contacted the seller right away)

  15. Hey, I'm just up the road in St. Cloud. Nice setup! And do you really have a 77 foot screen?!? [6]
  16. Thanks for the tip on the system profile, Colin. I live in St. Cloud, right in the middle of MN. I haven't received the receiver yet. According to UPS it's scheduled to be delivered to where I work on Thursday (my day off). I told ones at work to call me when it comes in. Must be a pretty hefty unit, UPS site says the box is 40 pounds! Oh, and what price did this unit sell for new? Was it in the $500-$750 range?
  17. Does anyone have a detailed spec list on the HK 730? Thanks! [<)] Can't wait to get mine in a few days!
  18. Pretty funny, but pretty fake. Cars are built with sensors in the bumpers that prevent airbags from deploying at speeds under 35 mph. Also, if you look at how slowly the airbag deploys, there's no way that it would inflate in time for a person to not slam their face into the steering wheel in an accident. I can just see it now...kids everywhere smashing bags into the bumpers of cars to try and get their airbags to deploy. [N]
  19. LOL. Fortunately someone else passed it along to me. It's at over 500,000 views now!
  20. So the Tape and AUX inputs can all be used similarly? I was somewhat worried about too big of a load on the inputs from having the receiver's volume too low and the TV's volume too high. Or is that not going to be a problem? My TV is a Mitsubishi HDTV, I'll be using the variable audio out jacks.
  21. In a few days I'll be getting a Harman / Kardon HK 730 that I won off eBay! It's my first 'move forward by looking to the past' audio purchase. Took a bit of convicing with my wife, though. She couldn't understand how a stereo that's 30 years old is better than one that's only 10. 'They don't make them like they used to' just didn't cut it with her! Here's a question in regards to this: Since there's only 2 auxiliary inputs I plan to connect my DVD player to one input, and route the other audio through my TV. For convenience sake I'll be using the TV remote to control the volume on the receiver. At what level should I set the volume knob on the receiver? 1/4? 1/2? Also, this is the first time I'll be able to run low-level RCA inputs to and from my subwoofer. What's a good crossover point to set? My Definitive Technology sub has a 50hz or 100hz selectable high-pass crossover and a variable 50hz to 120 hz low-pass filter. And what type of interconnect should I buy? If I use some el cheapo stuff will that be ok? Thanks a million for everyone's help on here. I know several people (Colin especially) aided in this decision. [] [~]

  23. I just sold a pair of Definitive Technology speakers that look just like those Klipsch's for $211! I was going to put a buy-it-now for $75 for them but decided instead to put them at $1 start with no reserve. []
