  1. This is like comparing a chevy to a BMW. The iFi is significantly better then Promedia 2.1 in construction, size, and audio qualities. The iPod compatatibility was the main selling point but these make one of the best 2.1 computer speaker systems out there! There is a line input on the back of the iFi for connecting to a computer, Klipsch ommitted the $3 mini-stereo cable in their kit.

    Stealth

The rise of the machines. Oh O. . .the end of civilization! []
  3. Not even close. The Encounter has better bass then Sound Sticks, but the iFi is really a true 2.1 system with a 8" subwoofer that has true bass you can feel down to 27 hz and a midrange that neither soundsticks or encounter can touch. The iFi system can get much louder with lot less distortion than Encounter or SoundSticks systems. For $150 the iFi is a down right steal!
  4. Yank_in_OZ I was always impressed with the low freq audio effects of 2005 DVD War of the Worlds especially with the freak lightning at the beginning and while the killing machines roamed as they destroyed everything early in the movie.
  5. I listened to both of these two speaker systems quite a bit before choosing the iFi over the FX6021. I was a bit turned off with the physical construction of the FX6021 system, I saw a lot of damage done by consumers misuse and wear and tear. I thought the midrange and treble was very accurate with the FX6021, but was disappointed with bass not sounding real and particular the loss of upper bass above the crossover point. The iFi was not a bright sounding system, but the bass and midrange far surpassed the FX6021 system, listening to rock, R&B, jazz, pop was a whole different experience with the iFi then the FX6021. The construction of the iFi system looked much more expensive, so it was a easy decision. BTW both blended perfectly with my G5 tower.
  6. Right to the point, very natural sounding with slight bit of brightness missing. Like any speaker system you can tweek the EQ if you want it a bit brighter, but I like it neutral for accuracy. The bass gets a bit stronger and cleaner after many hours use, but Jay would say its your ears that are adjusting also []Great deal for $149! Sharp looking 2.1 speaker system with iPod compatability.
  7. This set incudes the cult favorite "Pitch Black" and its much more involved sequel " The Chronicles of Riddick". (expect a another Riddick film in the future). The third is only a 35 min animated movie "The Chronicles of Riddick - Dark Fury" This is really a nice deal if you find this package on sale (typically $13). Chronicles of Riddick does have an constantly active surround sound environment that sounds damm good. I find the movie sufficiently entertaining!
  8. Escape series (NY, LA) was just plain fun and silly (eyepatch aside). Kurt has played many types of tough guy movie roles (he's good at it). Examples: Stargate, Tombstone, and probably one of the best B movies out there, the 1998 Sci Fi "Soldier". MI3 was all action, Poseidon 2 was a inferior CGI attempt in rebirth to cheese cake disaster movies, and X-Man 3 continues the comic book story that now has a cult following. Boxoffice Mojo shows X-Man 3 basically paid for itself in 4 days (worldwide) .... pretty impressive.
  9. Cool. . . . Costco is still handling them!

    X-Men 3

Went and saw X man 3 also . . . love to have Jugernaught as a friend . . . particularly during rush hour :-). This movie's CGI was amazing. Sad for the lost of several key mutants but love the ending enciting a possible sequel. I heard they might do a another story centered around woverine.
  11. I'd point out the bass boost mistake to the author and perhaps he can correct his article and results. Good observation Jay!I wonder if the author also allowed all the speakers to break in?
  12. Excellent surround sound mix for 5.1 dolby and DTS on Narnia DVD. Enjoyed the movie.
  13. The Phillips doc doesn't list anything for the speakers other then say they are 6 ohm 3-way bass reflex, but the amp has a frequency response of 50hz to 20Khz +/- 3 db with 2 x 140 watts RMS. The iFi has a 27 Hz to 20 Khz response and conservative rating of 2 X 50 watts RMS for RSX-3 sat's and 100 watts RMS for 8" tuned subwoofer. Judging the the 3 way bass-reflex design uses a 6 1/2 woofer and 2" midrange 1" tweeter I would say this speaker probably has moderate bass output, doesn't have a very good mid range response, but would have very bright sound (stronger high's). The iFi would have deeper bass and much better midrange because of the 3 1/2" woofer/midrange 3/4" horn tweeter design in RSX-3 sat.
  14. Well I won't be moving to HD or BlueRay until they make universal players or until one format wins out. I was a early DVD player buyer and I remember how quickly the players changed and improved. But kodo's for being brave and telling us all the juicy details concerning the Toshiba HD A1 HD-DVD player!
  15. This same question has been discussed earlier, its safe to leave it on standby, but most prefer to turn it off if you don't intend to use it for awhile.
  16. It was already pointed out in past discussions that the iFi RSX-3's have no crossover filter to roll off bass frequencies that could possibly cause damage to the small woofer. Still if your using this speaker in a 5.1 small rear speaker setting as Jay mentioned with the receiver perhaps they would work without damage.

    Narnia

I finally saw Narnia and it was certainly worth adding to my collection. Hope they produce more from the seven book series.
  18. You right it is highly doubtful two diferent iPods would exhibit the same problem. Not knowing how Klipsch designed the interface to the iPod I would love to hear their idea's regarding your problem. I would contact the Klipsch help desk and see what they think.
  19. Quite an accurate point! Hollywood does think that Joe Public wants to see fantastic visual and sonic representations of someone's story concept, but what is usually missing is the actual story itself. CGI has turned into a rich man's substitution for actual story content. Now we know in some cases without CGI you could never present the story as the author/director imagined it, but in too many recent examples the studios thought they had a automatic money machine when they went overboard with CGI. This is why I go out of my way watching out for various classic movies to come out on DVD. Its true they dont make movies like they use to!

    King Kong DVD

I bet Amy your really going to avoid the new improved extended version this November of King Kong. haha [] In reality LOTR fans appreciated the fine details added in their extended versions (like the deal with the dead scenes in Return of the King) because of the books depth, but with King Kong what can you add but really the part where Kong is packaged on the ship and taken back to New York.

    King Kong DVD

I enjoyed the movie enough to buy the single disk widescreen, but thought the deluxe edition was not worth it considering that Jackson is probably coming out with a DTS extended version in November. If you like the extras go for it, otherwise wait and the extended version will be out in November. There are scenes shown in trailer that aren't in this release . . . does this sound familar. [] Right to my point from this URL "Ok, I'll ask the obvious, where are the rest of the special features? No deleted scenes. No commentary. No useless DVD games. A trailer for an unrelated movie. The "special" edition contains production diaries that aired on the Web, a 30-minute TV documentary that aired on basic cable, and a documentary on 1930's New York? It's almost as if they are holding back for something." You guys looking for low prices....Target 2 disk for $20.99, CircuitCity 1 disk widescreen $13.99 [6]
  22. Well this is a close call and sure to get a few opinions! I like the iFi system over the Ultra 5.1 because I just wanted a really good looking/sounding 2.1 system to work with my computer. Personally I think the iFi has very clean natural sound and no hiss when used to play music or DVD movies from a computer. The iF is a more modern speaker system (appearance wise) compared to the Ultra 5.1, but hey you are comparing Promedia speakers to Reference speakers. There has been requests for the iFi to come in Black also.
  23. The Cinema 6 system (5.1) is closest to the Klipsch iFi (2.1) in size but you would differently prefer the Cinema 10 system (5.1) since you like the RSX-5 satelites [H]
  24. Interesting problem description! Does the Nano work Ok on any other iPod interface speaker systems? If not....I'd back up your music on the Nano Ipod, and then do a restore (using latest iPod updater) which erases the Ipod and resets it back to factory default without any of your music or data. Then add some files back and see if it behaves the same way. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983'>
  25. Everyone I have shown this movie likes it. Worthwhile to add to anyone's DVD collection, since it is now bargain priced. Plot Summary Genres: Drama Tagline: In everyone's life there's that one person who makes all the difference. Plot Outline An idealistic prep school teacher attempts to redeem an incorrigable student. Plot Synopsis:William Hundert is a passionate and principled Classics professor who finds his tightly-controlled world shaken and inexorably altered when a new student, Sedgewick Bell, walks into his classroom. What begins as a fierce battle of wills gives way to a close student-teacher relationship, but results in a life lesson for Hundert that will still haunt him a quarter of a century later.
