  1. Build cars people want to buy, there are alot of people driving vehicles other than american made....why because for some reason, perceived or otherwise, they feel they are better than those made by Ford, GM, or Chrysler. I agree with theplummer BTW.
  2. Nice, I will have to dig up some pics as well. I went all over the country as well. I was in Sarajevo many times and also down to Mostar. As a matter of fact we flew all over that area. I have a pic with my next to the blown up T55 they had up on this giant pluton overlooking Mostar. Did you ever get the chance to go to Dubrovnik, and who can forget the Sipovic!! I also made up to Zagreb and various parts of Croatia. I got a bit dicey at times, but I will never forget the place. I tell my wife that if it is ever truly stable, that I would love to take her there.
  3. Groomlake, I was in Banja Luka in 98. I have to say that the Balkans are incredibly beautiful, one of the most beautiful places I have been.
  4. LOL, that is what my MIT educated, NASA employed/retired EE buddy said.....until we hooked them up to his test equipment and then gave them a listen. BTW, he has a complete MAC setup, which I have to say is pretty incredible, his comment was that they are without reproach. He was equally impressed with my old BBX.
  5. It will be used in conjuction with my VRD's, which I almost sold a while back for a MC275, glad I didn't. Unfortunately there are no Mac dealers anywhere near me, but I have listened to one hooked up to a MC275 with Jubilees and Tannoy System 15 II DMT's. It was impressive to say the least. Right now I am using a highly modified EAD ovation, only problem in no phono stage. I put alot into my TT to just have it collecting dust
  6. I had sold my BBX a few months back. Now I am ready to start playing vinyl again. What is everyones opinion between the two. I loved my BBX, I just sold it because it wasn't being used and to be honest it didn't have remote capability. I also will be using it to play CD's on my Marantz SA 8001 and occasional PPV movies/events.
  7. I live in Idaho, and may be interested, esp. if trades can be part of the deal. Thanks
  8. Jay, funny you mention this. I have RF 83's and loved them with my HK 345. I recently upgraded to a Denon 3808ci to go HDMI and all that good HT stuff. I must admit I am very disappointed. As you stated the bass is just nonexistent like it is with the HK, plus the HK has a warmer sound to it. Thankfully I have my VRD's for music in another room. I tried playing music with the denon and it lasted only a few minutes, fatiguing almost immediately. If some are new to horns and have amplification similar to the denon I could see why they don't like horns Needless to say that I will probably sell my denon and try to find something closer to the HK.
  9. So I guess there is no real advantage to going that route seeing as I have a Marantz SA-8001 being fed to a EAD preamp.
  10. As the question states. I know a DAC is a digital to analog converter. I am looking for practical applications between the 2 and how they would relate vs. each other or a CD player and what is the advantage of one over the other. THanks
  11. I was given a pair of Altec Model 14's and when I went to open them up for xover upgrade, what did I find.....A film container filled with hashish, of course I ddin't know that is what it was, my neighbor told me...wink, wink. Needless to say had I been 20 years younger it may not have been thrown away. You just never know what you may find
  12. I am just curious: I have one back closed off and I can definately notice the difference, but now I am wondering. I made the backs inset so they are flush with the to the grill cloth, becuase I have done this I know I have altered the the volume of area that would be part of the horn, how much would this affect the bass response. The panels I made are 15"x38"x 1/2 inch thick. That is 1170 cu in. of volume I have encroached on per speaker. Any input would be appreciated.
  13. I am going to close off the backs and keep them. Is there anything special other than the obvious that needs to be done or that you did to close them off?
  14. Lonelobo and Kevin, I missed your posts on the Thorens It is a TD 160MKII. I purchased it from Dave Archembeau of Vinyl Nirvana. It is real nice, dead quiet and all the bearings are tight and spin forever. I put a SME 3009 Series II improved w/ removable headshell. I had the Tonearm/headshell completely rewired by Alfred Kayese of KRaduio products, (hell of a nice Canuck)about 5 months ago and have played maybe a dozen albums since then. I also purchased from him an original SME adapter plate which from my understanding are getting hard to find. It has a Audio Technica OC-9 Cart, which sounds fantastic. The plinth is custom, walnut and maple which is also very nice. All in all it is a great TT. Kevin, it and the Blueberry Xtreme would be a great foundation for a 2ch. TT setup. Hope this helps Sam
  15. Yeah, Bob is having issues, but dang they still sound nice. He said come he** or high water he is going to make it work. He has been out of town on a "run" and has let me play with his Alesis Masterlink and also let me borrow his Marantz SA-8001, man is that a nice unit. I will be getting one very soon. I am curious, why is there such a fuss over false corners, if the easy fix is to just close offf the backs? I imagine I will need to put some kind of reinforement on the back to combat any flex due to the bass, or no need to worry about that.
  16. Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it. I think I have a solution, I just had to think outside the box. My wife (God Love Her) said she didn't mind if I moved my 2 ch. gear into the living room and turn my little room into the HT area. I really don't want to get rid of the Khorns and I think this will work. The Khorns will still be in corners that are12" apart (fireplace faces diagonally into the room), but the room itself is 17" x 30 including the open area into the kitchen. I am hoping this will give them alot more area to 'breathe', we shall see. I will look more at Kevins solution. I am assuming all I have to do is just close off the backs, similar to the Jub's or is there more to it than that? Dean, I saw your Khorns at Bob's, they sure are nice and he really likes them, has them in a nice setup. Bob is a 10 and has really helped me out. The main reason for going away from vinyl is I just don't have the time for it. I have 3 kids, and between Horses, karate, piano, guitar.....etc. I don't have the time to just sit and listen. I just throw a CD in and I don't have to worry about it. I will keep all my vinyl and get another TT down the road some. If any one is interested, I have a nice BlueBerry Xtreme for sale and my Thorens TD160. The Thorens has a 3009 SII improved. I just had Alfred Kayser rewire the tonearm and also put an original SME adapter plate on it. It has a very nice walnut/maple plinth and comes with an Audio Technica OC-9. I will sell the two together for 1600.00 or break it up. I am not getting any hits in the Garage sale area and would rather see these to someone here.
  17. Am I crazy or does this make sense. My room is small (11.5x14x9). Using the long wall is out of the question, so my sweet spot is about 6" away from the Khorns. I was thinking of going to another reference series, another set of RF 83's or 7's if I can find them. My reasoning is that I can align them so the sweet spot is where my chair normally sits. I have my vert. cornwalls but they are pullng duty in my shop/garage and I would like to keep them there.Am I crazy or does it seem logical considering my room size. I love the Khorns, but just feel I am not doing them any justice in such a confined area. Thoughts on this please. Also because I am going away from vinyl, I am selling my BBX and Thorens. Any takers out there?
  18. My apologies, I was just messing with you.
  19. The SR 8001 is a fine unit, however it does not pass 1080p/i or 720. It only scales to 480p. So if you want it to do any video processing and you are going 1080p you may want to reconsider. This has been the primary rub with Marantz AVR units. http://us.marantz.com/Products/1875.asp Hope this helps and if I am in error please correct me.
  20. I feel I must chime in as well. I have had my VRD's for 2years plus, and any time I have had any questions he has been extremely helpful. Customer service like that is rare in todays' market and he sets the bar very, very high. Thanks alot Craig....and oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! How old, 25?
  21. I ahve heard alot of good stuff about the marantz SA- 8001 Apparently it's predacessor had some issues, but sterophile rated it very well. BTW I have an oppo 981hd and it sounds fantastic,it will play SACD as well. IT gives my Rotel rcd 1072 a run for its money.
  22. Is there an advatage to having the tweeter below the mid, or was it out of necessity?
