It's a bi-radial horn with a big ugly slot. The horizontal polars are pretty consistent but the verticals are collapsed: http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2380a.pdf They sound alright I guess. I've mixed in a lot of venues with these horns on the HF. Kinda looks like a 402 minus a couple of holes ???? Could it be ???

Does anyone have any information / comments on these horns ?? I think they are TAD TH4001 clones.

I had a '70 cuda that I painted black... No clear just color... with lots of sanding... It had great dept.... not a wet look. You could place a yardstick at a right angle to the finish and read the end..... clearly.

You didn't get the memo? If you do some drilling & modification, you can mount the driver inside the mouth of the horn, thereby saving some overall net length... trust me....would I lie to you? That's where mine is now... at least on one of them... must of been from 2 seperate runs... Why can't people here respond with all the information and not play I got a secret ... or secret handshake club .... Example... some one is using TAD drivers that are way expensive.... which driver ?? how expensive ?? the jubs aren't cheap by themselves... passive networks... Dean's. Roy's or (Al's) ??? Which version of Roy's ??? I heard there are a few but I can't get an answer on what the difference is sound or component wise....or at least no one has the time to help.... opps... I think I said to much the some one is here with some little pills for me ... very small pills... but a bunch of them... with very small speakers.... that have a box connected to them... I seem to recall Roy once telling me that the TAD 4002 driver, though expensive, could replace the K69 driver and also require fewer PEQ settings (I don't know how many fewer). Some might even think it's prettier and if so, that would be three out of three! I'd wonder if a change to the TAD driver, requiring fewer PEQ's, would satisfy some of the concerns expressed here? (I don't know if it would make a passive more simple as all this crossover stuff is voo-doo to me) The driver is on the back... you still have the big black horn up front.... by less EQ I meant a simple passive........ stir... stir.... stir[6]

OK.... Has anyone built a Trachorn that would replace a 402 ? Does anyone have a drawing or dimensions for such a horn with a reccomened driver ? What improvement over a 402.69 combination would one expect ? Prettier ?? less EQ required ? simpler network ??

I think you can get the same result by playing a recording of that sound and sticking your head inside of one of the uglies powered by a 500 watt amp.... Who says you don't need power.......[<)]

OK... What power would be required if you are say crusing along at 5 watts and you have a musical peak,,, say a loud bass drum hit or something... how much more power would you need to reproduce that. Would a low power amp be able to produce that in the time required ?

Has anyone designed one to be used on a Jubilee bass bin.... as good as the 402 I am hearing people want to try a very expensive driver to minimize the EQ needed.... if I read correctly. So would one of these Trachorns be the answer. I have a pair from Al on my Belles and it was the best money I ever spent.

I agree with Richard... The ES networks need to be driven hard to sound good. On a pair of Belles I upgraded with Al's Horns, Beymas Tweeters and ES networks. I did this one step at a time to hear the differences if any. The new horns and tweeters really made me take a step back and sit down. They sounded great, teally opened up the speakers. I then added the ES networks expecting another WOW... I did get a WOW but it was more like WTF... Everything I gained with the first 2 mods were gone. I called Al amny times and he walked me through just about every setting and combination ( lots of time and patience ) We finally came to the conclusion that I don't play my music loud enogh and on occasion I listen at low levels. So with out question he took back the ES networks and refunded my money. For noe I am using the stock networks refreshed with any parts they needed. Hope this helps... you have to be the judge... maybe just refreshing them would be enough or maybe the universals from Al

How would you compare that sound to a McIntosh MA252 SS
