  1. $300? Hmmm. Maybe you could pick up some Heresies of Fortes. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find Fortes at that price. My thoughts would be to hold out until you have about $600 and find a pair of Cornwalls. Many on this forum have agreed that Cornwalls are the best bang for the buck. The Chorus is comparable to the Cornwall, but I have heard both, and I think the Cornwalls are still a better sounding rock and roll speaker. I think the Fortes are supposed to be close to the Chorus.
  2. I don't recall anyone saying they ditched B&W's for Klipsch. Are these B&W's that good?
  3. Ditto what Myhamish says on the EQ. I used to have one many years ago, but after I married my Crown to my Cornwalls, I came to the conclusion that I really didn't need an EQ anymore. Now, I'm down to an amp, a pre-amp, a CD-player and a pair of speakers. I don't even bother with a tuner or the old cassette player. Just 3 components rock this place.

Ummm.... even if I don't re-read it, it still says the same thing. []
  5. I bet you have no idea. [] It should sound awesome. I'm not familiar with the HPM 1500's (I used to have HPM 100's), but you might want to not have them in the system with your KHorns. They might drag it down. If you like earbleeding levels, the KHorns will rip!
  6. Only that in a post of an article by Bob Crites, Klipsch referred to his Rebel as a failure. At that's what I recall. You might want to double-check me. The only reason I say this is in case you are going to build a design that was not considered good.
  7. Pioneer HPM 100's to Cornwalls. The HPM 100's were a very good set of speakers.
  8. I used to live on a standard size 8500 square foot lot with about 15 feet between houses. My neighbors' and my walls were brick. They told me they could still hear all the lyrics and identify the songs I was playing.
  9. Good 4 U, Jay. Worst case is you'll know not to buy it again. Best case is you'll enjoy it. Let us know.
  10. In answer to Kaptain's question, all other specs being equal except wattage, the only benefit I can see to increasing wattage is to avoid clipping. I have heard people say when an amp clips you can hear it. I, for one, have seen an amp clip many times, but could never "hear" it. The next thing you know, the tweeter is fried. What is true about clipping is that the peaks get "cut off" and you lose dynamics. The sound is more muddled as all the instruments' volume seems to converge. If you can stay away from clipping, the dynamics are retained, and the music sounds more punchy and crisp, and less muddled and distorted. If you're curious to try, get a 30-watt receiver and crank the heck out of it. Compare what it sounds like to 150 wpc playing at the same loudness. You can use and SPL meter. I don't think you'd see as much dynamics loss/clipping going from 100 wpc to 150 wpc until you get it really loud. I used to run a 90 wpc Marantz and it clipped, frying the tweeter on my Cornwalls. Going to a 325 wpc (or whatever it is at 8 ohm) Crown, I never had a problem, and the dynamics improved vastly. The peaks were preserved like nothing I ever heard out of my 90 wpc Marantz.
  11. LOL, JB. Where do ya'll come up with those moving pics?
  12. I used to stay up past the late news and watch this:
  13. The Prettiest Girl on the Planet thread made me nostalgic. How about posting some pics of TV from the vaults of the good old days? Here's one for starters...
  14. Actually, JB, I'll be working on the house on Saturday, but not Sunday, of course.
  15. Garbage? Doesn't sound like a classic rock band to me. Did we run out of songs?
  16. "Bad Sneakers" by Steely Dan Next: "You'll see the day another way And they could put the sunshine for a nighttime where you lay" Name that Tune!
  17. Welcome, amigo! You are cordially invited to "cheesily" add another post to your count by posing a fresh challenge!
  18. Yeah, Mike. That Corvette of your is a piece! You need a Ferrari. Otherwise, shut up already! []
  19. Just two Duke? I'm surprised.[] now, Rick ..... I didn't graduate from the Def Jeff School of Amplification......[] Hey! I think I said 200 wpc is good enough in order to maintain full dynamics and avoid clipping. 30 or 40, on the other hand, would be asking for problems in this household.
