  1. Haven't tried the Gold Lion KT-77s but after talking with Doug at Doug's Tubes I bought JJ KT-77s to replace the Svetlana EL-34 tubes in my Quicksilver horn monos. A little more forward and a slight increased slam in the bass. Not as laid back or mellow as the EL-34s. Having said that I have moved on to EH 6550 which are quiet nice. Tube rolling is very subjective and I have no expertise other than knowing what I like. I prefer the EL-84 tube sound in my vintage HK A500 to any of the large tubes I have heard in other amps.
  2. Finally....a new face at the bar. Welcome kuisis.....take JBs seat....he rarely makes an appearance these days. A fresh bottle of Belvedere and jalapeno stuffed olives. An hour and a half to Martini time[D]
  3. Ace...thanks for the Miller beer....went down well. This place is getting to be a ghost town...where is dg and JB? The ss crabs were good. Wife fixed some very thin cornbread, cukes, tomatoes, and corn on the cob. Not bad at all. I'll have to try the mahi again with a hotter grill. Put a beer on my tab gentlemen.
  4. Wow.....great pics guys......beautiful scenery and no crowds! Sounds like quite a time.
  5. Thanks for the recipe. I think my fish was too thick and never got done in the middle so I put it in the broiler on high. Two other problems with fish.....it gets cold fast and it breaks up too easily. I usually solve the first problem with a dish warming in the oven and the heat from the plate helps. JKs at Kill Devil Hills usually does a good job with fish. I asked about their procedure and they told me they use a mayonaise based marinade and cook on a mesquite fire at almost 1000 degrees. The fish hits the grill, quickly flipped over, and then on to a plate. Total cook time is a couple of minutes or less. Soft shell crabs for dinner tonight[]
  6. Has anyone heard from fritz? I emailed him after his departure but didn't recieve a response. Hope all is well.
  7. Mahi last night......not a good idea on charcoal. $12.95 per pound and it was only mediocre. Finished the last of the gasoline martinis getting ready to light the grill for two marinated filets. I'll have a Evan Williams single barrel reserve while the coals get hot. Mike, Chris, Ace, next ones on JB. Cheers gentlemen[D]
  8. Yamamoto A-08......in my opinion one of the most handsome amps around. Never heard one though....can you post a pic for me to drool over?
  9. Up kind of early huh winchester? I like saturday mornings....up at 7:15 but much more laid back and no rushing around. Yard work is on the agenda but did half the yard after happy hour yesterday. Haven't had fish in a while.....may be good idea to check out the fish market later. Perhaps some tunes and three fingers of Knob Creek this afternoon. Ahhh! Life in the slow lane[^o)]
  10. Put a Jack on the rocks on winchester's tab....he had a good week....[D]
  11. Welcome chopin. I think bluesboy has plans.....maybe he will respond.
  12. I'll have an Evan Williams single barrel reserve on the rocks with you. Hey bud.....you just past your 1000 th post! JB......you and ace stopping by tonight?
  13. A new face at the bar......welcome Marvel....and yes it is Miller Time. I'm with you I try and take it easy during the week...maybe just one tonight since it was a hard day in the coal mines. I see a couple of the regulars here. Next one is on me.

  16. Looks like I'm going to have to open the bar for winchester.....you know those big city boys..... he's probably getting a pedicure. Two gasoline martinis with olives and pearl onions.....first round on me.

  19. Ain't that the truth OT..... must be mellowing out in my old age. Who remembers the last Vick thread. I think it was my old buddy mas that got things going saying something to the effect that he was not interested in the thread and that we should not be either. He suggested that we focus on things in our own circle of influance. Later I think my ancestry was questioned[:^)]. mas and I talked again a couple of times after that through private messages and in private I kind of liked him. I remember coming home on a Sunday afternoon right after mas posted and the thread had been locked. Oldbuckster read it before the lock and responded but I never asked him about that post. As always Buck came to my defense. Man I miss that guy[]
  20. Well spoken Dee. I agree totally. Amy is certainly an asset to this forum......and if I were 75 years younger she would be in trouble[^o)]
  21. Depends on the human.....Vick isn't worth a three leg, asthmatic, blind, and aging chihuahua[:#] Hey winchester.....I think my Vick thread 2 1/2 years ago went 7 pages before it was yanked..[8-)]..were getting close.
  22. If you like the Heels, Dean Smith (and Roy Williams) then all I can say about you is that you are a scholar and a gentleman and welcome to the forum[]
  23. Thank you Rigid for that very good information and critique. Sounds like a fun time. You don't work for the Chamber of Commerce by any chance[]
