  1. I have Quicksilver Audio Horn Monos and LS with Altec 511/902 horn/driver and ALK xovers. That combo pleases me. Using JJ KT-77 for output tubes. I think if this is your first foray into tubes Quicksilver will be reliable and you can try different tubes. Let us know what you decide and how you like the results.
  2. Way to go Dave[Y] On a related topic.....today I was at the stop light in front of the university and looked at the shoulder of the road and there was exactly one zillion seven hundred and twelve cigarette butts that had been flicked out of passing cars. Whats up with that? Same thing at what used to be a pristine beach strand here with people leaving there butts[+o(] Okay....got that off my chest.
  3. Not a bad little amp. Listened to it for a bit today and for the price its hard to believe the sound. A very small package with a whopping 13 watts per channel. With efficient speakers it is an affordable way to get into tubes. You did good bluesboy!
  4. What did I miss? Who put ol pigweed in the mulligan stew? An interesting thread for a change and look what happens. Was it Roy's ode to Mas?
  5. Buckster, It's pre owned. I'm over at Tarheel's playing with his new computer and drinking some Maker's Mark listening to the blues.
  6. Buckster I just left Bluesboy's house. Let me set this up for you. Bluesboy has hybrid K-Horns, A Fisher tubed integrated and a Sony universal disc player. We turned the amp on to warm up and then out to the deck and ate a few oysters fresh from the water to the grill. We then took our seats with a bottle of Makers Mark and a bucket of ice and two glasses. We put in disc two. Buckster you asked me if it is a keeper......holy mother of cr*p. John Mayer got it started as you know and then it just keeps getting better. Jeff Beck and his daughter? (cutie). Steve Windwood, Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy, Clapton.....yoweee! What an afternoon and Bluesboy's system left nothing on the table. MY five star rating.....run don't walk to get this one. The best guitar playing I have ever heard. Excited? Yeah.....a little bit.
  7. Thanks for that one Arky.....I will check it out. Hope your holiday was great. Still waiting for Dee and the little lady to show for dnner.
  8. Great menu just_like_dtel...... say hello to Mr.& Mrs. dtel.....tell them Tarheel said hey[]
  9. Duke....you are always welcome. Come on down and warm up for a couple of days. 77 here today but high tomorrow is 58....still better than freezing.
  10. Nonsense Dee....you and the misses pack up the station wagon and come on over and eat with us. Friends don't let forum buds eat at Cracker Barrell on thanksgiving. Turkey roulade, dressing, butterbeans, asparagus, real cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole with a touch of bourbon and sweet potato biscuits. See you about 7:00.
  11. What bluesboy said. I'll get back to you Buckster after taking a listen on bluesboy's fine system. Enjoy the holiday bud[]
  12. I gave this book to bluesboy two year ago and have just borrowed it for a second read. That first section is chocked full of music history from the folk scene in the 50s and 60s. Wow....what a book even if you are not a Dylan fan.
  13. If you play it backwards you can hear someone saying "pass the pipe".
  14. Just made the sweet potato casserole. I volunteered and this was my first attempt. Just to be sure it is good I put in two shots of Makers Mark. I hope the chefs on the food channel are wrong when they say the alcohol burns off leaving just the flavor. I had rather the flavor burn off leaving the alcohol[]
  15. Welcome back Skinny. I think you could take Thebes.... Chuck
  16. Are those ventless fireplaces drawing outside air or do we need to send you guys carbon monoxide detectors?
  17. Welcome to the forum Z. Congrats on the new speakers. There are many ways to go with the amps. All the above recommendations would do just fine. The McIntosh and Crown gear would be good choices or maybe a vintage tube amp such as Scott, Harmon Kardon, Sherwood or Eico. Take some time and listen to the speakers for a while before getting the sub. Enjoy.
  18. Unusual and very nice speakers Laurelhill. A great presentation! Welcome aboard[Y]
  19. Don't know a thing about any of those speakers but welcome to the forum Zubiriman. Someone will be along soon to help you. Don't be a stranger!
  20. I believe I sent Marty one classical tape recorded at 3 3/4 (not by me) and the rest were blanks or recorded at 7 1/2. Marty emailed me that the classical tape played okay but the rest were real slow. I ventured a guess that the deck was not operating properly at the higher speed[^o)] I don't know how the speed change occurs on that deck so I don't know where to look. Any help guys?
  21. Welcome to the forum Keithki and thanks for your comments. Don't be a stranger.
  22. Good post J. I saw Mapleshade's steamer about a week ago in their latest catalog and apparently they have tested the steamer with no ill effects. Pierre raves about everything so it was good to get your thoughts on steaming even on a different product. Keep us posted.
  23. I have a few recorded and blank 7" reels you can have. No need to return....I use mostly 10" reels. PM me your address if you want them.
  24. Great pictures.....glad Amy fixed them...tried to look at them yesterday but at my age and did'nt know if I had the time for them to load. A real tough little guy and disciplined to boot. I know you're proud.
