  1. guess if klipsch would have started shielding the klf towers after they turned out a c-7, then they would need a whole new model, like the KLF-30 MII. probably too much trouble. been glueing on the buckin magnets today - ain't as easy as they say for the woodshop flunkouts like me. loved electronics - hated shop. & keep thinkin this glue could be Mr. Ed or Secretariot.
  2. pete, yea i like sony tubes too. just saw somebody had a 32" wega right by the klf-20 & no problems, saw the kv27 wega has that magnetic pole anti-distortion stuff but it's a flat screen...i thought that was good.
  3. as keith shows, not all sony lines are created equal. his very good - even has preouts ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  4. yes on the rc, i thought i did hear bobg or some klipschonian mention that it had a tapered array crossover for the 2 6.5" drivers. believe that's under that CES thread under HT section; where he's talking of the new reference towers using the same cross concept. interesting on that horizontal point. maybe it moves either direction(?)
  5. hey i now have both so i'll just say they have their differences. have to listen more at low volume & i'll report back - for me low volume is less than 100db. & i like loud rock & loud everything. a downside of course is the cost of the klf-30; about another $1k (msrp). plus the legends aren't shielded so i now have glue on my hands everybody has a different sense of value & hearing. they both are great sounding speaks. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  6. again guys don't confuse LFE with LOW BASS. Here's the ole reliable dobly LFE Explained file attached
  7. m.h., in my opinion of course (our ears, tastes, preferences may vary) these klf-30 will rock, roll, & slam u to a much greater extent than rf-3, especially if u listen to something like AC/DC "shook me all night long" or about any explosion w/ HT. the specs also show that these are louder more efficient speaks. i think the extra $ are more than worth it, but of course u should listen & try em before committing. though it looks like the legends are being phased out for the new reference this summer, so they may not be available new for much longer. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  8. nhawk, once I found the space, I liked the rf-3 & vel sub much better than the rp-5 or 3. then when I found more space again I liked the klf-30 best of all for that rock n' roll slam (disclaimer: klipsch legend towers are not magnetically shielded ) & that's even with my sony receiver which I believe is lower current than your yammy. suggest u audition the speakers with your unit in your home. or maybe audition another amp. see if your local klipsch dealer will work w/ u to get what u like best.
  9. i found putting the spikes into the feet of the rf-3 works best (as opposed to screwing the spikes directly into the cabinets). just in case. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  10. i think he was just referring to the shelf sys. that onky should be a fine unit. best to see how it sounds w/ your speakers before committing, if u haven't already. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  11. there's a post by talktokeith below in this section on this very RP-5 @999.99. for the meager price dif, the 5 are a much better value than the rp-3 imho (i had both). u may also want to consider the rf-3 & a good sub to be had for less than the rp-5 (that is at msrp anyway). ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  12. xr, the hiss may really go down when you switch the receiver to stereo/2-channel mode. if so, then that's those loud dsp on your receiver being reproduced by those loud speakers. for the hum, could be a grounding problem. try a search on this board for ground or hum. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  13. yea i may be one of those "stupid folk" forrest refers to - i read the online specs again after I ordered the speakers &, having previously purchased the rf-3, was suprised to see that the legend towers were indeed not shielded. makes no sense except I imagine on a cost basis. let the buyer beware is right. josh, glad to see that on your wega as i was looking at the 27" top o'line wega. didn't have any problems w/ the current sony trinitron until i put the klf up on spikes thereby raising the towers by 1". bucking magnets on the way & I got the glue yest. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  14. oh well thank ya tg. still a work in progress. & yes the hgs does mate well & sound great w/ the klf. great, tight bass. & they're all still breakin' in. rock on!
  15. yea the sony actually sounds pretty ok w/ the new efficient klf. though I am eyeing that marantz sr8000 or a denon to pick up some additional current & stuff. the sony came long (about 1 yr) before the klf, so u know...live & learn ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  16. ed, i think i passed the 1st stone it looks like svs & maybe those new klipsch rsw could be in your crystal ball. rock on but be careful w/ those longer waves
  17. yes keith, i believe t-man has a point. & if i put in 1 of those giant tv like you're talkin, one 30 would be in the closet & the other on the front porch like i said, i can work w/ the video thing - these klf sound so good (along w/ my vel hgs) that I could watch the tube through a kalideoscope & still be happy. t-man, sounds to me like the speaker is in fact skewing your lines. same thing happened to my sony as soon as I put the klf30 on spikes, which raised them about an inch. my guess is that big ole upper woofer or the midrange magnet came more into play. actually, don't notice it at all during movies, but do on cable when i bring up the menu/schedule (where I am usually at trying to decide what to watch). but also notice some picture breakup on dvd & cable when the volume is cranked & much bass- maybe because when those woofers/drivers are really driving they're throwing out more electrons? anyway, i guess those huge cans of pickled beets from sam's may come in handy. but maybe the sony will keep fixin itself. & hopefully the new magnets help. anybody have a recommendation for which epoxy glue to get at Home Depot? Elmer's? ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  18. ed & keith, hey this could be a case where 180 degree phase shift by switch could help. actually the 180 setting on my vel in it's new location, up front between klf, sounds much better. guess that standing wave needed shifting for me. ed, i've heard bass is non-directional up to 250hz, but i think it's directional for me much lower, like down to 120hz. since i was 1 of your 1st klipsch bb pals i can throw a lil pebble i think i mentioned & was a lil concerned about all that rear channel sub output vs a single ksw-15 for the front, lfe & front center channels. tv's, who's the true sub expert, i think said something like my 1st instinct. that is a big sub or 2 (like the vel hgs-18 was a good example )) for the main/front sub & may be a lil ksw-12 or 2 for the rear channel. jmgi (just my gut instinct) though. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  19. anybody have any specific recommendations on glue? elmer's epoxy? thanks, tool school dropout ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  20. huub, you're english is still much better than my dutch (sorry, love that line )
  21. 111, u may also try auditioning (if you can find one) a velodyne hgs line sub. they really put an emphasis on low distortion w/ their hgs(high gain servo) tech & all. cost a pretty penny though.
  22. pete, i guess that means the wega's anti-reflection tech can create a problem in itself any color tv recommends for the 27" variety??? i'm limited to a max 29" inside a cabinet. guess that rules out a rptv (?) main concern now is anti-magnetism, though i realize the main problem is the klf being too close to the tube. hopefully the bucking mags work caus I think putting on cups is beyond this tool-time dropout
  23. iwill, i have a pretty similar case w/ my sony & rear cornwalls. my options are either get a pair of smaller surround speaks & place on top of the corns, or get a new receiver. since the remote won't switch the sony from A to A+B, i'm going w/ the new receiver/amp (hopefully soon) ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  24. pete c, yea movin along. now looks like the tv will be going in w/ the 2nd sys & the safer rf-3 problem now is i'm looking at 1 of those flat tube sony wega for the main system & after bobg & treyc comments maybe another brand more agrees w/ klipsch klf towers. anyway, when the buck magnets for the klf-30 mids & tweets arrive i'll see if that helps. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
  25. do u know klipsch does have a new (rsw) reference line of subs debuting in June? but for immediate satisfaction & lower price needs, of course they're also velodyne, svs, paradigm, hsu, rel... just for the short list. ------------------ Klipsch KLF-30 (front), KLF-C7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster S-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box 2nd room: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage '75) Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd player Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on!
