  1. kev, in short, change of impedance by biwiring is a nonissue. just like doug said, make sure you remove those straps & don't have the high & low posts connected directly to each other, when/if you biwire.
  2. js, looks good. clu, or is it imelda clu?
  3. dave, glad you like it pretty much. i have an hts2500 i got when i had my acurus 200five. the trigger worked fine off the b&k pre/pro so that 5V dc from the act should be fine. ended up getting a b&k 7 channel amp that has its own trigger so i use that now but still use the 2500. as far as your current buzz, does it go away when you disconnect the cable tv where it comes in the room? & are you using a cable tv ground isolator? if not, something like the mondial magic isolator may eliminate it so you don't have to use a cheater plug. also do you notice any smell from the monster box? only thing w/ mine is the b&k pulls some serious ampage & at times the box will heat up some though - it's rated to 1800 watts, 15 amps. monster i think does do a quality job on their power centers. also have richard marsh who helped in the design.
  4. dillon, may want to check out b&k - ref 7250, 7260, 7270. in your price range (discounted) & b&k has a great sound synergy w/ klipsch as far as ss goes. also, i use netscape 4.79 & can't see your avatar. clu pointed out that if you have a space in your filename it won't read on netscape, so if you remove the space. just to let you know in case you want all to see your avatar.
  5. i can see all in this thread now. last time i saw clu she was alfred e. monroe. she is one versatile woman. & randy i remember that one.
  6. oh just to add, the LFE channel is not filtered to the sub out at all. that's different & should be run full out (ie don't use the crossover on the sub itself).
  7. unless its some goofy config, whatever you set the cross to should always be the low pass on the sub out/sub - that is, where it starts filtering off the sub on up in hz. when you set speaks to large, it bypasses the high pass filter (crossover point) & the speaks run full-range. when you set the speaks small it should then use a high pass filter at that same crossover point on down in hz. at least this is how all the adjustable universal crossovers in processors i've seen work. & this is where i've found it to blend best - all speaks small & processor universal crossover at 50hz (10-15 hz over the lowest flat capability/rated point on the speakers). i would think most w/ large speaks would die to have an adjustable cross in the dsp down to 60-40hz, especially w/ klipsch speaks. iow, OP you must be a real bass hound. really you shouldn't want the sub too high in hz & directional. it should blend in seemlessly w/ the other speaks. but that's the thing about tastes - some may like to hear the sub over the rest of the material.
  8. ej, thanks that worked. & thank you clu. yeah now your's & randy's come up blank.
  9. EJ, using netscape 4.79 & your avatar comes up blank. i have everything enabled. anybody else using netscape w/ same problem?
  10. bud, like jt says, the legends will be ok but not the best such as a lascala or heresy for center. also as he says on the sw. though many a/v digital receivers have a sub mode that sends only LFE to the subs. may want to try that & not use the subs for 2-channel music listening. or a 2-channel or a direct mode that doesn't use the subs is another option.
  11. F, if you're getting rf from the long speaker cable runs then you'll only hear it on those speaks. & it should sound much dif than what you're describing which sounds more like a ground loop. should be much higher frequency. in my case i can hear the station out of both rear speaks' tweeters just like its a radio though not real loud. if you just want to pick up some of those devices for rf noise, I heard Radio Shack carries 'em & they don't cost much. i haven't looked into them yet - i was going to contact the engineers at the station 1st. i saw a post by Justin where he mentioned a few/sources & their cost. maybe he or somebody else could help find 'em...
  12. rob, actually meant to add as for your intitial concern, it sounds to me like the sub output is turned up too high. colin & ml had good advice there - get it calibrated w/ a sound meter.
  13. mm, actually it goes the same for every receiver or pre/pro i can think of when you're hookin the sub to its sub preout - the digital signal processor (dsp) filters the sub out (digital low pass crossover) at either a variable point adjustable in the receiver/prepro controls, or at a fixed point usually around 80hz. believe most yammy's use a fixed 90hz for the sub & as a high pass for the speakers set small. also, yammys like most have the configuration where all LFE is sent to the sub out only unless you set it to "fronts" & then nothing is sent to the sub out. that's the equivalent of setting sub:no in most other units. so to avoid dueling crossovers/double filtering/cascading & such, & cutting LFE which is speced up to 120hz, best to not use the sub's crossover when you're using the sub preout for the sub.
  14. rob, your yammy is already digitally filtering the sub at 90hz (assuming you have the sub attached to its sub preout). so you may not want to use the crossover on the sub or you'll possible cut some LFE. iow, turn it all the way up to its highest hz setting or switch it out if it has something like a crossover disable or in/out switch. or if you want to use the sub's crossover to get the corns to jive better w/ it for music, you want want to wire the sub speaker level in parallel to the corns. then set the sub to "fronts". or you can also do the sub line level off the front preouts.
  15. skop, yeah for that a dedicated circuit would be good. i believe there that's emi trasmitted directly over the circuit. anyway i better shut-up or i'm going to get clobbered by the guys that really know electricity. right now i'm only getting some rf from the radio station a few blocks away over my surround speaks (long cable runs). need to call those engineers at the station again & see if they have some of those clamp-ons for speaker cables. i've found those guys are real sensitive to noise complaints (& avoiding contact from the fcc).
  16. & btw, yes I did try ground loop isolators & they worked some but not enough to my liking. if you have cable tv or dss hooked up to the receiver/prepro in some way, you may want to try disconnecting that & see if it eliminates the noise. if it does enough to your liking, & if you don't like using the cheater plug(s), you way want to get a ground loop isolator like the mondial magic box.
  17. " Does having all your HT gear on a dedicated circuit help with eliminating hums? " skop, i've been thru all the wringers on this before & i'll just say that on my main sys i have a dedicated 20 amp circuit & i still had ground loop hum. it was from the cable tv box which of course had a ground different from my electrical system. that's the usual suspect for a ground loop - cable tv or dss attached to the sys in some way or another. & w/ all my various tv/cable attachments to my sys, the only practical way for me was to use the cheater plugs on all components w/ safety grounds (3 prong plugs) & to float all those grounds (except for the cable tv which of course has its own ground). despite the safety issues. i'm no electrician, but in a nutshell the dif grounds will cause voltage to run along the interconnect shielding & hence that nasty buzz or hum. i couldn't even find an electrician that could figure it out.
  18. op, glad you turned the sub gain down some. that's the thing about LFE in movies. that's a big reason why they made it the discrete .1 channel - its speced for 10db gain over the other channels already. so if you calibrate the sub's output that much over the other channels/speaks, you're going to really get some gain w/ LFE material. but not so much to worry about on the low bass sub output from 2-channel music. & that's why they have or recommend dropping the lfe output 10db on dts 5.1 music dvd.
  19. if i could make it, i'm pretty much between either place, so i'm neutral. I like Al's idea. i want to volunteer to be the 1st Heritage Rep in KC. maybe also klipsch could help me w/ the bigger house. & if anything, i think klipsch should put the jubilee on wheels & tour them around to dealerships kinda like a king tut exhibit. also serve a lil wine, beer & appetizers.
  20. btw, i can see the law suits now, from speakers falling down on heads. looks like its only a matrixed "channel" anyway.
  21. hey, i was predicting that a while back. actually i was half-joking but should have known.
  22. hey take away page's heavy guitar riffs & that'll work. you might also consider "over the hills & far away" by zep. or for another honey ballad "wild mountain honey" by the steve miller band.
  23. gil, sorry thought you were talking the upper freq, horns w/ direct; &, direct vs reflecting. but looks like you're talkin woofs. figured you had no complaint against directs w/ your klipsch.
  24. wm, yeah crowe did some embellishments on the original no doubt. but please post over on the Vanilla Sky thread cause what really happened seems still up for debate. & yeah on tv leno ruined "the crying game" & that nathan lane "the 6th sense" for me. never have forgiven them. that's a risk waiting for a dvd or pay-per-view.
  25. see it. it'll either intrigue you or make you mad or both. if anything its got a good soundtrack & penelope cruz cruise. don't read the thread on it here before though. its got spoilers - sorry, thanks to me.
