  1. moon, it sounds great in that regard but i need that instant gratification. w/ this VOD i hit a couple buttons on my remote & get the movie in dvd quality & features. don't even have to get off the couch & instant grat. new movies for about $4 & old for around $2. this should make blockbuster, netflix & tivo extinct unless the movie industry holds it up. it could even make the dvd & player extinct. iow everything is accessable on a central server rathing than handling at your home. all that's neede for improvement is the movie availability & sound/picture quality (though they're still pretty close to that already).
  2. ej, 10-4. another option is use an outboard power amp w/ the yammy & put a crossover box between the amp & receiver, or between a dvd player & the receiver direct inputs, like the outlaw icbm.
  3. still can't edit posts. was going to add, many dvds are putting the change in between scenes so its not as noticable. & of course some dvd are just single-layered.
  4. has the unnoticable layer swap become the dvdp test standard? sounds similar to the receiver doesn't pop when switched or hiss when turned all the way up. iow, don't let any of these be your main evaluation criteria. the layer change is in the material. depends a lot more on the material how noticable it is, unless the player is real bad or malfunctioning. it happens on real high end dvdp just the same from my experience.
  5. oh yeah they have the usual gamut of news channels in the 300 or so they have available. foxnews, fox sports, etc. yeah even though Time Warner owns CNN & part owns time warner entertainment. disney owns abc & espn & they have those too.
  6. ken, thanks for the company. for me this is big. no more rentals & late fees, except they still need to do 5.1 sound & the movies right now may not be the latest like say at blockbuster. this system is time warner cable. its wild going to the tv & being able to stop, start, etc just like a dvd player. if your dbs box is connected to dsl or maybe even by dial-up, like w/ the ppv channels, you should have it. would think it needs dsl because the uploads have to be pretty fast i would think to do the commands like fast fwd, rewind, etc. dss might be even better for sound cause i've heard their ppv channels do have 5.1. what does your dss use to upload info, like when you order a pay-per-view movie?
  7. & just found out they're in the process of doing the same VOD/MOD w/ the premium movie channels like HBO, showtime & the movie channel. no extra charge for that. should be up & running the next week or two.
  8. i don't have any butt shakers besides the woofers. that's an idea though. i do have a spare amp channel at 200W (7 channel amp - only 6 speakers). don't think i need to spend any more $ for now though. the velo hgs-18 in my smallish room is too much already. well sometimes.
  9. it put the pic file in the thread for me sun. just uploaded the jpg then i put the location between IMG & /IMG in brackets. is that what you mean? what i'd like to know is where can we see & manage the files we uploaded?
  10. justin, you take me back. i thought i'd be an electrical/sound engineer but then i started taking those college calc, physics, etc courses - no way i could go through that again. iow, hope you're good in the math & sciences. even if they're just electives its hard to stick w/ 'em when they rarely seem to apply to the real world. you'll probably learn a lot more on audio in here.
  11. did they use the same as george carlin mentioned?
  12. greg the reason you're getting a blank is because in your profile you have choose custom avatar checked yes but don't have one linked. if you check that no then it'll display the klipsch choice you choose down below. or if you check custom yes you need one uploaded or a link to it on the net. i know now because it happened to me.
  13. nah, no benefit really. they're good out of the box ( i hope for you). you just need that good sub to really handle the low bass & LFE. get that svs hooked soon!
  14. kain, sound like a good start. next i'd get "the matrix" & "U-571" & "private ryan dts". but that's my tastes. or do you already have those?
  15. "Well, I am no expert on this, but wouldn't you hear a difference in sound when things move from the main speakers (RF-7s) to the rears (RF-3s)?" usually even if you use the exact same speaks for surround or rear surround they'll still sound somewhat dif anyway because of the room & the dif in speaker positioning in that room. & the rf-3 are a pretty close timbre match to the rf-7 from what i hear. the rf-7 are mostly just louder. but you can compensate for that w/ the level adjustments w/ the receiver & preferably using a sound meter.
  16. fini, you may try upgrading your browser @ www.microsoft.com probably though its not compatiable w/ mac IE as w/ netscape.
  17. monster also has a 300 & 400 sub interconnect, & probably about 10 others. i use a 400 & its fine. probably would look at one of the nice audioquest now, say <$100. i'd make sure it has 2 things - at least double shielding & solid core wire.
  18. ok just saw your other thread & looks like you have nothing now? if you don't use a sub the a/v receiver will send all low bass from speaks set small & lfe to the front speaks when you set sub:no. that's why i keep harping on that adjustable crossover in the receiver like in the denon. sounds below 80hz are nonlocalizable for most (more like 60hz for me). so if you can set the crossover to 60hz & all other speaks other than the rf-7 small, then only the nonlocalizable low bass goes to the fronts large. all LFE goes to the fronts too, but its speced to be real low freq in the 1st place. when you get a sub you can then set sub:yes, the fronts also to small. then the sub handles all low bass below say 60hz & all LFE.
  19. kain, what receiver are u using now. i can't tell what you have & what's "coming soon".
  20. ej, i think most of the makers have their head up there & don't know how to explain it, so don't feel bad. when i came on here 2 yrs ago i didn't know a thing about it or digital or multi-channel (except for my quad fiasco in the early 70s .) that's correcto. i did it your way when i had the marantz sr8000. then went back to setting all my big speaks small & using sub out. couldn't find satisfaction either way for my finicky self so thats when i went w/ the pre/pro w/ the crossovers adjustable in the digital processor. maybe you could try what i brought up here by using an outboard crossover from the fronts preouts & running another connection from the sub out using the "SW" setting in the yammy. i think that'd work, but on paper. haven't tried it.
  21. tom, ok. that sounds normal. does that on quite a few i have & rent. not on the new cable tv video on demand though.
  22. boa12

    sub work out

a lil dif , but i like "pork soda" by primus. "my name is mud" is a great tune to test the undertones from the kick drum. great bass player in claypool too. strange stuff though.
