  1. I'm thinking I should start my own thread. Ran a spectrum analyzer prior to installing new x-overs, etc. and wanted some input on that also. Plus, this thread is already at 7 pages. I'm thinking it best but if you all think I should keep it all here - fine. But it will likely turn into War & Peace.
  2. Jeff - We're certainly not going to depend on gadgets over our ears. It's icing on the cake and added input. I'm taking my time with this to do a proper test. We plan to listen first, then test. BTW - You told me flat out I was listening to all kinds of loss in dynamics just by virtue of me running the khorns thru a 65 wpc amp. When I said I couldn't detect ANY loss of dynamics, the bass remained supreme, and I was missing no detail at cranked volumes - you said that I just don't hear it. But it's happening. If something bad is happening that we BOTH can't hear - then why would I entertain buying a megawatt amp? LOL Maybe one could say the same for you re your test. What I'm even more interested in is the results of your hearing test. I hope you have insurance for it cuz seeing how you mentioned the probably dollar difference between sending 1 vs. 2 x-overs to Bob...... um..... you know... Oh! I have to tell hubby that they could use some breaking in time. Actually Jeff - did you run them long enough? 3dzapper/Rick said they could use a warm up. Patience. I have a fun/interesting opportunity here and don't want to do this 1/2-a**ed. P.S. I can't use "Hey 19" as a test track. That song is in my top 5 "I'm on the verge of vomiting" songs for me of all time.
  3. Jeff - I say this friendily & fondly.... I think I ALREADY pegged you as "B". Fini - Do I call my hubby "hubby"? LOL No! We're scooching the TV back (finally) as it has to be impeding on the sound. Kind of a big deal in it's own right. Then we are going to do another ear listen & he's going to play around with some PC EQ thing & a mic to get some type of reading B4 we do any switch. We plan to get that Behringer EQ soon, but this will have to suffice right now. I think it will for this comparison.
  4. Dean - I currently have 1981 Klipschorns with AA's. 3dzapper's are AA's with new caps. Going to see if there's a difference. Still waiting for hubby to get home with the mic plus when he does he has another project to deal with. I suspect we might not even get to the 'swap for the new ones' till tomorrow at this point. We'll see. Sorry I'm taking so long.
  5. It looks like we'll probably at least 'start' testing tonight. Hubby wanted to test with some gadget (I've been too sick to ask what it is). He didn't want to rely solely on ear - he wants to 'see'. Was supposed to get the Mic for this on NYE but the guy who's borrowing it was sick & didn't show. Hubby's getting the mic tonight. I think we're going to put each speaker in a mono port, then a/b them that way as ONE listening test. But first we have to ensure both speakers as they are now are on as equal a playing field as we can get them. Jeff - you said you tested with some old Steely Dan and "might" have heard a difference? Can you remind me as to what song? Hubby has some old SD around here somewhere. And where/what exactly did you hear an improvement on? Was it across all tones or just in certain high ranges, etc?
  6. But what scares me is spending $450 or so on new crossovers and hardly noticing any difference also. That's what scares me about it.
  7. That it? You're already done with your test? Are you saying there's a difference, but not worth buying new or refurbing crossovers for?
  8. That's interesting - rotating the top horn section while leaving the bass bin. I wonder if that would work for me and wondering how one can secure it so there's no vibration, etc.
  9. Why is using a receiver that has extra ports for surround sound but can still do 2 - bad?
  10. I have the Moto 6412 dual tuner. I can't imagine not having their hd dvr. Petrol, don't consider - just do it. No brainer.
  11. Hi guys. Slow going here. Hubby inisted on watching a football game and I've pretty much been in bed all day sick. Normal TV volumes are too loud for me right now. I think I'm kinda sensitive to input being sick like this. Not really in the mood for listening. Not sure if we're going to do anything tonight, but will try. He was supposed to do this spectrum analyzing thing but didn't get his mic back last night due to the absense of his friend at the NYE party. BTW - The house we were at had Klipsch Synergy. They sounded very bad. Someone asked me "do yours sound as good as these?" Uhhh... I kinda had to contain myself.
  12. It'll be rough though. Listen, pull out speakers, install new x-overs, shove them back in corners - then listen again. Unless the difference is dramatic/in your face, it will be very hard to remember what we just listened to before spending several minutes changing them out
  13. I was incredibly sick yesterday & today. Hubby got home at midnight last night. We've not yet gotten to listen to music let alone install the x-overs. Hopefully we can do this tomorrow but we'll have to listen to what we have again. Especially him cuz he's been gone a week and I think I tweaked a few things with my receiver settings. Going to a party tonight. It would be nice to install one in 'b' and flop between the 2. I might try that before installing both.
  14. Yea, but I got accused of the same thing. 1) ex member stirring pot 2) couldn't possibly a female. Conversely, I personally can't fathom a teenager? or younger person referring to themselves as "Timmy". At least back in my day - it wouldn't have been 'cool' (just ask Cartman), and wouldn't fly with my peers. Hopefully times have changed.
  15. 3dzap - I got the crossovers! I just cracked open the box. Can't try them till tomorrow (if that) so I hope to be able to have a good test review by Monday?
  16. What the heck kind of fish is that. It's beautiful. You let it go - yes? Jeff - I contend you cannot visit someone for a listen. You have to have it in YOUR room. Otherwise - not a good test. Buy it & start a thread when hooked up.
  17. Jeff - Buy Borntorocku's amp. Don't know how many wpc is, but it looks like an affordable starting price. If it doesn't work, just put it back on Ebay.
  18. I'd take them but I don't have a 400 wpc amp so I would lose dynamics and it would sound bad even if I couldn't hear it. They would be a waste on me. Though you could sway me with free shipping & adding a foofoo veneer.
  19. Only an amp with 3,500 wpc will make them sound good. Big bucks though.
  20. But does the seller indicate what kind/type of speakers he has? Do you not take into account here that the klipsch run differently - efficiently?
  21. Like Music for the Masses style? LOL I'm getting this ASAP. thx!
  22. Duke - It sounded so good too. Nicoltl - How is the new DM? Been meaning to get it.
