  1. Sébastien David, at your service... ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  2. I like the looks of the MC500. I would go with that if I didn't have any existing wire. However, since you already have good wire, I wouldn't really bother with it. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  3. it can't be worse... it will probably make a small difference, and whether that difference is worth the cost is up to you. the only real way to tell is to actually try it! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

  5. seems a bit high... here we have a 47" Panasonic HDTV monitor which retails for $3,188... CAN! that would translate to about $2,000 US! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection This message has been edited by Seb on 05-09-2002 at 07:31 PM
  6. isn't car audio's standard impedance for amps, speakers, etc. 4ohm? wouldn't that impact anything? ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  7. yeah, the unfortunate thing about the audioreview email script is that it puts audioreview in the title of the message, I don't even think the subject you enter appears... so it looks like spam, but it's not. it is also likely that lots of people aren'T even using the same email adress! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

    RF-3II w/ RC-7?

boa - unfortunately, I am not(yet) blessed with a bottomless wallet. my future is indeed ahead of me, but I think I would prefer being able to afford a higher downpayment on a house instead of living in a crappy appartment where I will not be able to enjoy my ht anyways... therefore, compromise is the name of the game for me at this point. once I can afford it, trust me, those 3 series will go in the back and the 7s will replace them in front. for now, however, no can do, unfortunately, unless I win the lotto, which is unlikely to happen since I don't play. dndphistin - yes I agree completely with your comments. my goal with this thread was simply to find out whether the RC-7 would be a tonic match for the RF-3IIs. the ideal would of course to listen to them together, however for practical reasons I am trying to find someone who has done the same as me and could tell me about the sonic match between the speakers. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  9. I say go for a 16:9. All games now (on the next-gen consoles) or almost support 16:9, which is a more natural viewing mode for humans (you see much wider than higher). The future is 16:9, the past is 4:3. It's true for TV, same for games. And I suppose you're not going to play many SNES games anymore, are you? Besides, it seems that you are going to use this system mostly for movies, which of course warrants a 16:9 screen. Trust me, it's so frustrating to lose so much screen area when watching a movie! Better than watching 4:3 movies though... OAR rules! You want a 16:9 screen for sure. Also, direct-view TVs still have a big advantage in terms of picture quality. Just look at those big Sony XBR TVs, the picture is absolutely stunning with a prog scan DVD player. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  10. your dealer, like the majority of them and the home theater enthusiast poupulation, is wrong. there can be no overkill at the center. it is the single most important speaker in home theater, as 60-75% of the sound goes to the center channel. go with the RC-7, it will more than make up for the price difference. I am going to buy RF-3s and probably an RC-7 as well, so you can see the RC-7 will definitely NOT be overkill for your speakers. It will sound better, fuller, and will have better quality than the RC-3. Plus, the RC-3 looks wimpy compared to the big 7. and you certainly don't want a wimpy center channel. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  11. higher than your earing will allow... it depends whether you're using equalization, but the volume should be very high with those RF-7s before the receiver starts clipping... ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

    RF-3II w/ RC-7?

I'm nearing my purchase and having second thoughts! please help meee!!! my main concern is will the RC-7 be a bad match for the RF-3IIs? if so, then I think I'll go for the 7, the RC-3 just looks too wimpy. then again, the RF-3s look wimpy compared to the 7s as well... argh! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

  15. get the RC-7 if you can afford it. about 60-75% of the sound in home theater goes to the center channel, you need to have a very good speaker in that position. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  16. moon, here's a trick: try to use some masking tape or something to pull out the dent. you can also try with a needle. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  17. I cannot find anything to say, as always in those situations. 18. I'll tell you why they think Bose is good: they have never heard anything better. The only reason Bose sounds good to those people is because their only previous experience with sound is that of a little boombox. Of course, the advertising helps a lot as well, you'd be amazed at what people can come to believe... it seems if you show them an image ON TV of the little Bose system transforming into a huge home theater system, they WILL believe the image to be truthful and believe that Bose gives you great sound with a small size. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

  20. I wonder if it is really a smart decision to put RF-7s in the back. Kind of a waste of money IMO, you could buy MANY additional DVDs if you used RF-5s for example instead. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  21. the JBL PB series were pretty good last time I checked. Of course don't expect super-high volumes of good bass quality, but for the price they're pretty good. I would try and go for the PB-12 however. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  22. I would definitely up the ante in the bass section, and drop those RS-3IIs for something more manly, either RS-7s or a direct-radiating speaker, don't know what sounds best to you. it seems like a dramatic mismatch, all that Ref 7 series and the 3's in the middle... no way! DO NOT rule out SVS. I think that for the money you cannot go wrong on those, with all the praises they got from everyone. I feel a pair of Ultras would go along with your system better than the Strata, and you'd get more bang fro the buck than the Storms. As far as spending the rest of the money... easy one: SOFTWARE. You should be spending half your budget in software anyways in the long run, you can do it in the short run, good for you! I always crave more DVDs, whereas I could actually live with my present system, which sucks, esp. compared to yours! Or you could SAVE the money, but I doubt that's an option in your mind... Just think, you could be coming back from the DVD store with a MOUNTAIN of DVDs in your hands, and spend all summer watching those! Okay I am drooling now. Back to Counter-Strike! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
  23. I would go with small for all speakers. Or you could run them large and use the LFE+Main function, however one of the purposes of having a subwoofer is to relieve the mains from low-bass-producing duties. 80Hz is the way to go, it may be a bit high for the RF-3II but that's what you have to work with, so... ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection

    Sdds

I believe it's sound that fits on 70mm film... Although film is normally 35mm when projected... Good question! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
