  1. I guess I'll add my pic. Ear may flip over this, but in my 11 x 11 x 8 room with lots of furniture, there is actually a surprising amount of bass...
  2. CECAA850, I don't use a sub, but I'm here anyways!
  3. Three-phase? How much power would you be looking at getting? And I would love to see that video. Besides, I would glady take some of those woofers off you hands (for storage reasons of course) until you got your house rebuilt []
  4. Generally, a rear center channel is 6.1. 7.1 has back left/right behind you and left/right surrounds for the sides. If it were me, I'd wire the two in parallel and have both for the one channel. They're plenty efficient and you certainly would be able to hear them!
  5. Ear, you are very strange..... Ricci, saw the vids on YoOtoobe, very impressive.
  6. Welcome to the Forums! I hope everything has worked out for you. About the amps though. I have used a Crown CL1 with varying speakers for about 3 years now and I love it. I had in on some RF-15s a while back before I moved it to a subwoofer and it sounded great. It's now on some Infinities I scored for real cheap (100 bucks like new, though I agree, free is better) and it sounds fantastic. You will love the bass for sure out of the CWIIs with teh Com Techs. Good luck and enjoy your free CWs!
  7. If you want to get nitpicky and technical, sub isn't sub to begin with. Technically, it's infra...
  8. Not to say it won't work. If you're looking at that type of sub for music, and you get a good power amp to go with it, you'll never lack output for sure!
  9. Islander is correct. Most pa speakers don't dig as low or go as high as home speakers/subs will do. A folded pa horn is good to maybe 30 hz in the more expensive ones (Cerwin Vega Afterburner comes to mind). The other thing about PA subs is that they're meant for long throw, high power handling, and high sensitivity to fill large rooms since they are almost all used for concerts. Look at the Klipsch cinema speakers though. The MCM 4-T-Grand will go deep for sure, but the horn sub is massive. At the same time, in a small environment, you will still get deep bass out of a PA sub, just not as much as with a home subwoofer since PA subs (the speaker itself) are usually low excursion (only 7-9 mm at most) and deep bass is dependent upon displacement of the driver cone itself. Hope this helps.
  10. Oops. My bad. I thought you were saying you don't give a *** about the price because you can afford it [:#]. But yes, the 13w7 is, in my opinion, still expensive as hell even at under 700, though you're paying a lot for the name like with, say, BMW. And this will be my last post on this as it seems we've successfully hijacked another thread [:S]
  11. Weinstock, welcome to the forums. I can't really make a recommendation on main speakers since I've only ever owned a pair of Klipsch RF-15s, but for the subwoofer, and I hate to recommend something that isn't Klipsch on the Klipsch forums, but I've always recommended an Earthquake Supernova of whatever size you can fit in your room. They're ported via a passive radiator and are usually tuned to about 17hz so they'll go plenty low for movies and also sound very good for music. I've had a Supernova MK-IV 10 for about 3-4 years now and I love it. I picked mine up off Ebay for about 400 bucks. Took a gamble that paid off big time in my opinion. Except for the occasional subwoofer I'll make myself, I'll never use anything else. Here's Earthquake's page. Hope this helps and good luck on your search! Just FYI, a budget is always good to know too! http://www.earthquakesound.com/ The Supernova page specifically: http://www.earthquakesound.com/supernova15.htm
  12. Ear, you don't give a *** because you have a steady, high income apparently. Those of us that don't, well, don't [:S]. But yeah. 1199 for a 13w7; it's stuff like that that has made me a true believer in Ebay. There's one on there, brand new BIN 579.95 plus 60 shipping...639.95, which is barely half of 1200. And you can always find one cheaper in good condition used, just like a car.
  13. Actually, nevermind. I bought one of the Shure cartridges they sell at Fry's Electronics and it works great!
  14. That kind of sounds like it just may be over my head. I don't consider myself to be very gentle with things and I would likely break something. Plus, if I do swap the caps, I probably won't be ordering them for a while, so I'll just have to wait and decide later.
  15. Just yesterday I decided to delve into the world of vinyl by picking up a Sansui FR-D35 turntable at the local Goodwill for $18.81. Pretty sweet deal I thought, but now I find that the needle is broken off of the cartridge, so naturally I can't use it. And in knowing abosolutely nothing about turntables, I have no idea what I should be looking for to replace it so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not looking for anything uber expensive (less than 50 bucks is preferable), but just something that works. Thanks!
  16. I don't have a set routine, but usually when I'm doing my homework (still in highschool, just FYI), I might have music on for 5 to 6 hours at a time. Other nights, I don't have it on at all. However, I always make sure to catch Jazz Classics on Staurday nights, and I almost always stay up until it's over at 2 am. Very nice and I enjoy it alot, though I must say, my classmates (I'm 17) laugh at me about it...but I'm fine with it[].
  17. That's exactly why we are in this hobby. To enjoy it! Great to hear your hard work has paid off!
  18. Hmmm, that's annoying. Well, can you remelt the glue? I am assuming that it's regular hot melt, just old, or would you recommend cutting the parts out instead?
  19. Yeah, I acutally paid 100 for the pair, but how much they are really worth I have no idea. When I get the chance I'll order some of the Dayton 1% poly caps. For the 19uf, I plan on wiring a 15 and 4 in parallel which will work and then npe of course for the 50s and 600. So I'm looking at spending maybe 35 dollars, which compared to what I paid is a bit ridiculous, but with what I would like to assume to be the value of the speakers, that's not that bad.
  20. There's a Yamaha CA-610 II for sale on ebay with 4 hours left. Current bid is at.....$52.44. Is this something I maybe should be watching? It'll proabably end up around 180 is my guess... Link just FYI: http://cgi.ebay.com/YAMAHA-CA-610-II-INTEGRATED-AMPLIFIER-AMP-45-WPC_W0QQitemZ300250491238QQihZ020QQcategoryZ73369QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  21. Right, and that's a result of what Harry said about the bottom line. In this microcosm of audio, our debating LPs and CDs has brought to light the problem with basically everything these days. People want to make more money (isn't greed one of the seven deadly sins?) so they skimp out on manufacturing, labor, design/engineering, QC, basically everything in many cases. Which in turn means outsourcing and crappy products. And no one does anything about it. So here we are, going back to old stuff that was made right, before money was the top priority.
  22. So I've had some time to ponder this, and if anyone knows of any good 2 channel receivers too, I'm open to all suggestions. I've become hooked on the jazz program on Saturday nights on WABE (NPR here in Atlanta), so a radio would be nice to have too [] Thanks!
  23. Gret woodworking man! For an "amateur" you do better work than I do! And I've been do this stuff for at least 2 years now, which is plenty of time to get good at it. But I have to go back to an earlier post you made. The guy with the Klipsch Heritage clones, you've got a pic of his Belle clone on top of a subwoofer that looks like a clone of a VMPS Larger Sub. Just thought I'd mention that...
  24. Yeah, so those of us that aren't happy with the low quality stuff have to pay more for good stuff. Just like every single other thing you can buy. No surprise there.
