  1. Agreed. Those pictures look way to sharp for me. Your eyes are naturally a little blurry, especially since not everything you're looking at at any given moment is in focus, so the fact that every edge in POTC is razor sharp REALLY bothers me. Plus the movement of the people seemed jumpy and very unnatural. Not something I plan on upgrading to...
  2. Ok, and for the higher values, the 50 and 600uf caps, would an non polar electrolytic work, or would I still want to stick with polypropylene caps? I can always wire some in parallel to get the desired values, or is there a drawback to that I don't know of?
  3. So I was just checking PE for caps, and all they have for the polypropylene caps are 4.7uf and 18 uf, for every brand!!!! Where can I find these?
  4. Ok, I'll eventually get around to that. I think I can get Deoxit at Radio Shack and I'll check PE for fuses. Thanks!
  5. Another two questions I want to bring up...if anyone's looked at the pics on that website, each speaker has mid/high frequency attenuator on the crossover. I've actually messed around with these, but whenever I adjust them, the tweeter/mid gets scratchy. Would it be a good idea to clean these? I read somewhere about something called Deoxit that is supposed to be good, but I really don't know. The other thing, is there anywhere where I can decently priced replacement fuses? Stereophile did a review of Hifituning.com fuses and said that the high quality fuses do make a difference, but those suckers are expensive. Thanks!
  6. Ok, thanks. While we're on the subject, part of the crossover is kind of an S shape labeled with 1 1/4 AGC. It's on the negative tweeter lead...what is that?
  7. The audio quality argument in favor of vinyl is one of the main reasons I really want to switch from CDs. I got to listen to my dad's old copies of Darkside Of The Moon and Meddle and they were incredible sounding, even on the crappy turntable we had at the time (which we gave to my grandma). But even still, I walk into Best Buy, find that ska CD I'm looking for and hope to high heaven the quality doesn't suck. So I rip it as high a quality as I can and deal with it although the CDs I've gotten lately haven't been that bad actually. I did strike it lucky on a trip through Plains, Georgia though. I found a Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Ultradisc II (the gold plated, uber quality CD) release of Meddle in a random shop for 15 bucks. I can tell a distinct difference between that and the generic copy. The only problem is that if every recording studio took the time to make a CD sound like that one does (even without the gold plating), I think it would still cost a fortune and I would assume be about the same price that vinyls go for currently...
  8. Oh and they're RS5s (the 1980s model), so even if the foam hadv'e been rotten, the 100 bucks I paid for the pair would've still been worth it I think. Here's a page about them just so you know... http://www.infinity-classics.de/infinity/models/Reference-series-1+b-2-10+A+B-1981-86/index-Reference.htm
  9. Yeah, I understand about the woofers, but luckily for me, the guy who I bought them from (last Friday actually) said he had the foam replaced in something like 2004, and I checked them out arnd they're basically new. Which is why I'm asking about the caps.
  10. I agree, very beautiful. And I too have always made a hash of any woodworking project I've tried []
  11. I was just reading an old thread about Mcintosh stuff when I came across a post from oldbuckster that read: "anything from the 80's needs crossovers, or atleast the caps changed, but don't believe me ask around here ....." So, not really knowing for sure, I'm asking. I have some old Infinities that, at the newest, are 22 years old. I haven't taken a look at them, but I would assume that the crossovers are still original. Would it be wise to at least replace the caps (which is something I can do myself)? Or should I look for completely new crossovers? I'm not trying to ask how they would sound (since this is the Klipsch forum after all), but would it generally be a good idea? Thanks!
  12. Yeah, I missed the opening, and have missed most of the events. It annoys me that NBC and whoever else is showing the games won't broadcast the discus and shot put (my sports[Y]), but that's just me. And all this stuff about age, the opening ceremony, I kind of believe it. I was just watching a Youtube video of a CNN report talking about the girl singing and they had a clip of an interview of the musical director for the opening ceremony. He said they had to switch the two girls because the one on camera had to be flawless in basically every way, according to government inspections, bureaus, etc. etc. China is still a communist/socialist country after all...
  13. Yeah, I just figured that high school/college age kids like me are the broke ones and that people that have their own homes would at least be somewhat better off than I. But yeah, definitely. You just gotta keep lookin for that sweet deal.
  14. Hehe, wrong Mcintosh [:$]. Even still, 450 is a little much, though I would love to have that. And yes, you are completely right. Luckily, I've been able to sell my old PA speakers for more than I paid for them, though I made the mistake a year ago of selling my old RF-15s for half of what I paid. I'm trying not to do that again. But I'm still looking. Might end up with Crown stuff again if I get my Power Base sold.
  15. Indeed. Great work and I am completely jealous []
  16. I think vinyls are on the way back in part because of the increasing popularity of DJing. At least where I've seen them, most of the new vinly releases are rap/hip hop. I think another part of it is that younger people (I might just be one of the youngest persons on these forums) are getting tired of the crappy quality of CDs. Plus vinyls and the stuff you get with them are so cool! I am absolutley jealous of my dad's iron on he saved from the I-don't-remeber-which Chicago album. Stuff like that. Granted it is handy to have all of your music in a little white plastic box, but I really am not a fan, but it's all I've got. Besides our old Pioneer PL-L70 is broken and it's all we've got as far as turntables go [:'(]. One last thing in my semi-rant, and you knowlegable fellows can correct me on this, but one of the main reasons I'm reluctant to start using vinyls is that they wear out. All of the ones we own are my parents' and I'm afraid that I'd listen to them so much (and I listen to music A LOT) that they'd wear out and be gone, permanently. Is this correct?
  17. Just looked finally, and yeah, would love to have a Mcintosh like that, but 1500 is WAAAYYY over my head! I am only 17 after all, and my budget is basically what I've been able to scrounge up from selling my old stuff so far...
  18. No, but I'll certainly take a look. For me at least, Mcintosh is the ultimate and that would be awesome. The only problem is that I'm trying to sell my Power Base first and I really want to get that gone before I buy anything else...
  19. Yes, would be great in a weight room []. I'm growing weary of my one little KRK Rokit [].
  20. Does anyone know anything about the new Harman/Kardon HK receivers? The 3490 and 3390? A new 3390 can be had pretty cheap, and I'm using an older version of that, the 3380, which isn't bad itself, but I'm still looking for something better. I might try and pick up an Crown D-75 and just go that route since my Power Base 2 sounded so good...any thoughts? Thanks.
  21. Yeah, so I've heard, but again, it's out of my budget, so ebay has certainly been my friend lately. Unfortunately, I let a Citation 12 slip through my fingers for 180, which would have been awesome, since I can use my existing reciever as the pre, but whatever...
  22. I also forgot to mention that a straight two channel reciever would work, but I'm looking for one of better quality than my HK-3380. If it weren't for budget issues, I pobably would have bought the Outlaw Audio RR2150, but the hunt for a good deal is more fun []
  23. Yes, I did find that review. Very tempting, but still looking. Still not sure if I should go vintage or newer...haven't done much homework on this yet, been busy. And thanks for the response.
