  1. [] LoL... Ya, I know there's a lot of marketting mumbo jumbo all over the site; it was tough to look past that. I went by what professional reviewers (even though who knows how 'unbiased' they really are) and others on boards who have heard them had to say in my decision to go with them though. I didn't hear one "don't believe the hype" comment from one of them. And luckily, the reality is it isn't all B.S. []
  2. Yes, and a HT reciever is what it is... Hmm. Thanx for that. I haven't had enough time to devote to catching up with reading of threads on this site so I appreaciate the summary. [most of my reading has been focused on tube amp, horn tech, or crossover related threads]You saying that makes the comments I hear all over on numerous message boards regarding the low noise floor of the Outlaw processors all the more poignant. thanx, steve
  3. After my initial audition the 1st few days, I'm happy to say I don't believe the honeymoon will be ending any time soon. Really Really great, accurate, revealing, musical sound.
  4. So as not to be completely duplicative, I posted my experience with the Butler 5-channel tube hybrid amp here: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/702211/ShowPost.aspx They also have a three and two channel amps. The short of it is, very very good results. The bad of it is, it really exposes any limitations I have in the rest of the chain; like noise from the DVD player and pre-amp. Really good stuff, that completely woke-up my LaScalas.
  5. The Rotel is on my radar. However the Rotel seem to affer a a bit less for a bit more $$$, but not nearly as much more $$$ as so much more of its competition. Let me see if I can find that comparison table I found once... [click ticking sound here] Here we go:http://www.prillaman.net/950_chart.html [ MarkBK, I see this post on Outlaw's site... [] ]
  6. I eagerly await your review. My Onkyo 939 is -real- tired (read in my Butler 5150 thread) and I'm pretty sold on an Outlaw processor to replace it. ...not sure if I want the 990 or 970 tho...[8-)]
  7. Woa! That certainly woke this system of mine up; specifically these La Scalas! http://www.butleraudio.com/tdb5150.php I recently bought a set of La Scalas and a set of Heresys used on eBay; both sets from the 90s. After the initial honeymood period of a few listening session, I began wondering, where's the sparkle, where's the depth, were are the transients? I didn't want to let myself, but I was liking the Heresys more that I had been listening to alone a few days prior that I had sitting inverted ontop of my M&K subs before I received the La Scalas. I'd been reading a lot about replacement crossovers. I was wondering, jeez, these speakers are only a bit over a decade old, can the crossovers be 'worn'? Plus, when I listen to the crashing waves in Lost, it sounds instead like I'm listing to the 'sound of the sea' you hear when you put your ear to a big sea shell; not that realistic sound I got though my former HT speakers, the M&K S-150 THX system. Well, I knew my amp had been driven hard too for these past years. But I didn't realize just how worn that amp was [Onkyo 939 receiver] until I bypassed the internal amp, took the pre outs and plugged into the Butler 5150 I also just bought on eBay (two supposedly easy years of life spent only working a little on weekends... hope it's true). The difference was remarkable and immediate. The tweeter and squawker came to life like nothing else. And here I expected a soft hi-end from the triode driven zero negative feedback hybrid amp. Quite the opposite though. I can't wait now to hear what it will sound like when I get my Audio Research Classic 150 amps fixed and use them too, as I expect to get a 7.1 processor so need two more channels of amplification, using the Butler then for the 4 surrounds and center. (Lori, I could use those surrounds you were going to sell me if you read this [] ) ....Sitting here late late at night in a dimmed room listening softly to the DVD of ELP at the Royal Albert Hall and the synthesizer part just kicked in at the end of Lucky Man... Now that's what these horns are supposed to sound like! Can't wait to play it again during the day at about 15 to 20 db higher. dang, I like where this is going. [ip]
  8. Thanx Dean. E-mail has been sent. Sorry if you got a duplicate, but I didn't get a positive confirmation from the board the 1st time I tried to send it. -steve
  9. Dean, do you have a website covering your products/services? Thanx, Steve
  10. Cut me some slack ... very much a work in progress. [] Can't put Heresy's up front until I get a different TV or go front projection & screen, so I could move the subs where the current TV is with the Heresy in the middle: [All pix here http://public.fotki.com/m8o/our_house-1/music_and_video/ ... a lot of the same] I'm floored at how well facing the horns @ the wall creates a wide ambient rear surround soundfield. [] I'm running the rears closer in against the wall to the seating area, facing in even more. When you sit on one extreme of the seating area, you almost hear the surround from the other side a tad louder then the surround immediately behind your other ear. In all my rears of fiddling with rears or side surrounds, I've never achieved such a solid but totally ambient soundfield.[^] EDITS: 3/7/2006: Purchased a Butler TDB5150 5-channel hybrid tube amp.
  11. How true. Though there's no escaping the sound waves eminating from the La Scalas, Heresys and my M&K THX subs... anywhere! [][6]
  12. Thanx for the x-over info Bob and J. Sorry, don't mean to jak the thread. Just wanna add, I set up the La Scalas today and moved the Heresys to the rear of the room, pointed @ a 45degree angle into the wall to provide a wide | diffuse | ambient surround sound-field. Played excerpts of two concert DVDs. Woa...! [Y] ancientdude , yes, I'm married... [] When she saw them in the garage after I took them out of the boxes, her words were "are you kidding me? are you serious? this has to be a joke!" ... HAHA! I told her that's what she gets for not wanting to spend time downstairs in the real multimedia room (she has her own den she loves under the bedroom with a tiny/crappy Sony system in it.)-- I'm now doing what I want in the real multimedia room.
  13. Great to hear! I'm right there wit'ya... My Heresy's arrived today, and my La Scala's are arriving Monday! [D] Regarding the comments about the x-overs, thanx for the thoughts. If this site had a workable seach facility I wouldn't be asking, but can anyone provide linx to producers of after-market x-overs for the La Scala?
  14. no prob; just have'n a little fun... [] BTW, yur sig is pretty brave...[6]
  15. somewhatt OT I guess... weird that this thread would have a 5 star rating on it w/o many replies or listener eval in it, while another thread on this board about the same subject that was started a little earlier[ http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/679326/ShowPost.aspx ] and has some great a/b evaluation detail in it (read the post from tsmalls ), does not have any stars? ok, who's priming the vote...? [] ...just that when I saw 5 stars I expected some info in the thread that would even eclipse the well worded opinion tsmalls relayed on this matter... []
  16. hehe... Good illustration of your point. [H] Though I just used the Search facility on Klipsch's homepage and entered each model number individually to see each item.
  17. Hello, I didn't see anyone ask about the KSP-S6's. Are they still available? Thanx, Steve
  18. SOLD! Do you have a PayPal account? Not to worry, I'll also pay for the PayPal commision too. Else check & snail-mail I guess ; unless you have another suggestion? Either e-mail or PM me through the board and we can exchange contact info. edit: I asked you to e-mail or PM me through the board, but duh, I realized after that I can do that too! <grin> ...I sent you an e-mail. Hope you got it. -steve
  19. Man, my wife would strangle me if she knew i was suggesting this... There's two sets of black La Scala speakers at auction on eBay right now (one is a pro edition with handles). If one of us were to bid and win the auction, the winner could sell the other the extra speaker of the pair [my only requirement is the La Scalas be Black]. We could have the speakers shipped right from the seller to our two different locations. UPS Stores will pack and ship it if the seller drops them off. I'm having a pair of La Scala's shipped to me right now that way. From NC to LI NY, about $360 for shipping and packing of both speakers. Man if one of us were to want it enough to be serious to bid & win, I hope I don't end up sleeping outside... Background: I just bought a pair of La Scalas and a pair of Heresy's from eBay over the weekend, plus put a computer dream-machine together on TigerDirect and bought that too on the card. Plus I paid for a friend's whole-house audio system on my card too. This month is gunna be a killer. ...I'm embarrassed. Perhaps this is a month too soon for me to do what I'm suggesting above give the cost... [:$]
  20. Oh, now I see what you mean. They have the handles on the side. Ya. maybe I can sell the other to Coytee for his center's needs. []
  21. As the titles says, I just won two eBay auctions for a pair of La Scalas and a pair of Heresys! (both from the 90s, in black) Whoo Hoo to me!!! [<)] ...just wanted to share... [] Now I gotta figure out what I'm going to do for a certer ... which is governed by whether I'm going to do either DPL or LCD Rear Projection, or front Projection with a Screen. For the former, I'd do one center Heresy between the subs on either side with new LCD/DPL TV sitting on a shelf just above; for the latter I 'could' do that too or go one more La Scala hung on the wall behind the screen. However, I can't really swing the $$$ for new and you can't usually find one La Scala for sale... Question to all? My 'old' 3-gun cathode-ray tube Rear Projection TV is sitting between two M&K 150-watt Subs, each containing 2 12in. drivers in a push-pull configuration. When I crank DVD concerts the TV has -noticable- waving of the image side to side due to the intense bass that is shaking the tubes inside of the TV. So what is likely to be affected by bass more? - new LCD projection? - or DPL projection? I thought DPL would be worse with the thinking the tiny mechanical mirrors whould get shaken; but someone in Best Buy suggested LCD since it has more mirrors in it. ...anyone have and informed response in this field? Thanx much.
  22. Correct. No other Klipsch speakers will match timbre to La's or K-horns. It's a completely different animal, from a pure timbre perspective. Personally, I don't think Heresy's match timbre with the big boys either. K's, La's, Belles, and Corns all have the distinctive tone that no other speaker in the Klipsch lineup can match. Thanx very much. Just what this neophite needed. Ok, so I gotta make sure I win both auctions ; for the La Scala and Heresy. I heard what you say, but the Corns will be too big plus expensive right now. ...now if I can only beg the other bidder to stop bidding... it's already cost me a few hundred dollars... []
  23. you'll note it's not discounted, which I understand from my Klipsch dealer, is the taboo...
  24. [~] Tell me about it! I'd like to add, I beg anyone to listen to the Steely Dan Two Against Nature DVD on a top knotch 5.1 system and not be totally enthrawled by it. Gimmicky? Nea.I read this thread with great interest as I'm bidding on a set of La Scalas and Heresy II speakers now. The thinking was I'd buy a new single Heresy III for the center. (for speakers I have M&K S-150 THX w/2 subs now for the HT setup, and customized Martin Logan Sequel II for the 2-channel system upstairs). However I was kind of hoping to be outbid on the Heresy set due to the size. [???] My HT room has the perfect soffit running down each side to mount side speakers on, under or in ; right now one set of surround speakers are mounted on it, and it's not enough. So I was hoping to read about a 'smaller' Klipsch speaker that matches the timbre of the La Scala, and mount 3 to 4 sets on or in the soffit, both on the side and under it ... so should I infer from the participants on this thread that no Klipsch surround speakers but other speakers in the Heritage line will match timbre to La Scalas?
  25. Thanx all for the quick replies ... I see I'm not the only one who has trouble keeping his mind on work at times! <grin> What you all say makes perfect sense regarding 'more used less is better then less pushed 'til there's no more' (I just made that one up! [] ). Just remember too that the amp has a multi-position input attenuator at 3db steps, so I was thinking I could use that for safety's sake. Regarding the later question, so has anyone ever see an impedance curve of the La Scala or have a pic to post? Thanx again. P.S. Oh, and I also just remembered ... I already am a Klipsch owner ; the KSS line of speakers, if you consider that 'Klipsch' compared to this heritage stuff tho... []
