  1. You can also choose towers for surrounds. I chose RF52s for surround duty.
  2. Hey, I understand that it's not cool to bash other brands, and I would never consider doing so. If a brand wasnt a fraud, or if they at least barely produced a respected product for which the HIFI community gave respect.....(unlike most of Bose or white van sellers), I would never do such a thing. Sure........... there are probably Bose exceptions to the rule(901s, maybe), but most of the Bose 5.1 HT garbage selling in stores today is total dog-crap. Geezz...... My own father spend about $2-3k on a piece of sh!t 5.1 Bose system that makes me vomit in my mouth a little bit every time I visit from out of state. I guess that's one of the drawbacks of living nearly 1,000 miles apart...sheesh. We dont get to discuss hifi purchases.(low-fi in his case) Had I been around, I could have built a system for him for the same money that would have put that sh!t system he owns to shame. It wouldnt even be close. You have never, or will ever.......hear me talk down about any brand except for the "White Van" guys.... or others that fit within the same category.
  3. Whats your budget and listening preferences?
  4. Given the possible nauseous gases a burning plasma might emit, I'd recommend using a exterior camp fire rather than a fireplace... Bwahahahahahahaha.... OK, that WAS funny!!
  5. Yea, no kidding.........DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in a metro of two-MILLION, and there is only "ONE" showroom that showcases the reference and higher end lines faithfully. Geez, and I feel lucky that we have ONE!!! Why is that so?? What's up with that?? Is 2-MILLION not enough for 2 quality retail establishments? I feel lucky that I found one, and was able to seek it out, but geez.... They could sell SO MUCH MORE if they only tried, wouldnt you agree?? Why doesnt Klipsch market their better speakers more?? I can appreciate their Synergy stuff at Best Buy, but what about those who want REFERENCE or better?? Why must Klipsch hide their better product? It makes no sense to me whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!! Granted, they wont sell High end stuff at BB, but geez, at LEAST... make it available in shops for those who want them!!
  6. Anyway you slice it, or dice it, that would be terrible advice to give if you know anything about Bose. That's because there are many comperable sat-systems selling on the market that will run circles around bose performance wise for less. If you check their frequency response, you'll find huge holes large enough to drive a truck through. There are numerous respected companies who sell sat-systems that are worthy of recommendation, but Bose is NOT one of those. It's no wonder Bose refuses to publish specs for much of their product line. The whole point of these forums are to educate those who dont know any better, and pointing out the fact that the bose sat systems fail to even quality as "Low-fi" fall within those paramaters.
  7. It's called insecurity. [] They have been able to market their brand of innovation more successfully than most audio company's; Klipsch included. It's because most of their consumer based HT systems selling ARE junk. This forum may be a little different because it's 'klipsch' specific, but try asking for recommendations for a Bose Surround system at any Hi-Fi forum. Try your luck at Ecoustics, Audioholics, AVS, or any of the major forums and see what kind of response you get.
  8. Dont rule out towers for surrounds. I auditioned several RB/RS models for surrounds, but chose RF-52s towers for surround duty instead. I thought the 52's offered a lot more speaker, and they work well with my RF-82s fronts.
  9. That's per pair if you know how to negotiate, and no those are not 'per' speaker prices. Do you pay full retail when you shop? I own some of those speakers, so some of those prices I listed are actual prices I paid. The only item I guessed a street price was the RF-62s. I based my guess on the fact that I paid $750(1,000 retail) for a pair of RF82s, so I figured $550 should be within reach for lower model.(rf62s)
  10. The SVS PB12-NSD/V sells for $699, and it's in a different league compared to the Klipsch subs in the same price range. Dont get me wrong because I love klipsch and own their speakers, but their subs cant hang with SVS selling at a similiar price point.
  11. LOL..... THE CANNON!! hahahahahahahhahahahaha It's probably not worth spit........ Good luck finding specs for that water pistol.
  12. I was going to say the same thing. If they dont have one in stock, they'll happily order one for you and it will only take a week for them to get one in. I had to have my surrounds ordered, and the wait was slightly less than a week.
  13. Geez, thats incredible. In a metro area that large, you think there would have to be several places to buy them within a 1 hour drive. Have you guys done zip code searches on the 'find a dealer' page?
  14. I would buy neither. You can get a lot more for your money than those recommendations. If I had that budget, this is what I would buy......... RF-62 fronts...........$550 RF-52 surrounds.....$450 RF-62 center..........$350 SVS-PB12 NSD/v....$700 Receiver.................$500 (many good choices in this range) For $2500, it would be awfully hard to beat the sound of the above system.
  15. I'd suggest he look at the SVS PB12-Plus. It's in the same price range, and will best all three.
  16. What do you want from your subwoofer? I wouldnt necessarily match any of the above with the RF82s depending on what level of performance you need from your sub. When it comes to subs, I personally think you can get more performance for the dollar by going through someone like SVS. For example, the list price for the RSW-12 is around $1200. For about the same price, you can get a SVS PB12-Plus2 which is in a different league in every way. It really depends what you want from your sub.
  17. All three receivers are very comperable in quality, so you cant really go wrong with any of the above. Of the three, I give the edge to the Yammi because it's graphic user interface and user friendliness of it's menus.

    RF-82

I've had my RF-82's serving front duty for a little over a month now, and I couldnt be more happy. I have a system that is strictly HT, and for my purposes, it's been happy days in "nuts" house. LOL BTW...tonight is a dedicated movie night!!! Wooooooooo!!!! Ever notice that beer tastes better on friday afternoon?
  19. I watched the Elvis theme this week, and loved it. It's about time they picked something fun to watch. I didnt watch the results show tonight, but I did see that Chris got voted out...........wow! I thought he was going to make the final 2 for sure!!
  20. That's a beautiful room, and impressive rack you have there. Very nice!! Have you done anything to treat the room acoustics? It looked like you had a lot of untreated bare walls in your photos.
  21. Given your budget, I would buy the SVS PB/12 NSD. It would be a no brainer. I have yet to find a subwoofer than can come close to SVS for the money. HSU also makes quality subs for the money, but they cant come close to going as low as the SVS. Construction quality wise, they are comperable, with the main difference being the SVS goes lower. If you can squeeze a few more dollars into your buget, I'd also recommend the SVS PB12/Plus. I subscribe to the theory of "I'll always have it", so I might as well buy the best one possible. When it comes to subwoofers, you definitely dont want to settle with "good enough" or "it will do". You can find their subs at www.svsound.com Good Luck
  22. You're missing the entire point. Whether or not DVDs are encoded with 7 discrete channels is irrelevent to 7.1 surround. That's why receivers have these things called sound processors, so that they can process the sound into a matrixed 7.1 format[] Many receivers do an excellent job at it too!! Just be sure not to buy the same receiver as that guy who earlier in this thread commented that his receiver does a bad processing job []
  23. I wouldnt know what they sang last week because I lost interest several weeks ago. I dont know which week was worse..... Barry Mannilow week, Rod Stewart "singing to the 40s" week, the crap they sang during Kenny Rogers week, or the junk they sang during "love songs" week. I just cant decide my favorite. (not to mention crappy genres I missed) Does anyone have a list of the weekly 'themes' since the top12?? While I admit there were a few good ones, many more were rather stupid and unwatchable.
