  1. I've got a couple of bottles I could lend you guys for testing.
  2. I will throw in my three cents worth this week with a band that started out as a bluegrass band and with personnel changes eventually became a pretty durn good prog rock band. I followed band personnel more than anything in choosing what music to listen to and it worked out pretty well. So going from Yes (following Rick Wakeman) I found this group of which Wakeman was once a member. Although he is not on this album. This album was the first for Strawbs in their move from folk/bluegrass to electric and remains among their best (IMO). Strawbs Hero and Heroine 1973 LP Also available on CD (A&M) There are some very strong tracks here with good songwriting and lyrics. The guitar work is muscular and hard-rocking. Why they weren't more widely known here is questionable but some speculate they were more into partying than the seriousness of the music. At any rate this is some very nice music showcasing prog rock of the early seventies. Similar to Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant, etc.
  3. Seti, I also have these installed in the kitchen and I don't know if you are aware of this but if you will simultaneously play Jimmy Buffett's A1A while popping pop corn in the microwave the popcorn will be saltier!
  4. Placed third in the 2003 Peach Pit Spitting Contest at the Johnson County Peach Festival with a pit spit of 22' 8".
  5. How about ***** SHOOTING.....................Us old Farts can see those............... If you throw them straight up. As long as I don't have to set my beer down! No Man, you got to lay on your back, old farts can't stand up and hold a shotgun too............

  7. Thanks Double J. The ones I was looking at were made in 1975 according to that list. Thanks.
  8. I was also looking at some used Heresy just now and wondered if there was an online way to look up the serial numbers to find date of manufacture or do you have to call Klipsch. Also what other info could be found by SN?

    Yes

Ah yes. Try the DVD 5.1 Surround Keys to Ascension. Yes it is live but Yes is not your typical band. They can be as good live as in a studio. Try it. This is the best Yes lineup IMO. Anderson, Howe, Squire, Wakeman and White. This has all the classic Yes tunes, good concert effects and pretty good sound quality.
  10. I will add a thought if you are completely new to vinyl. CLEANLINESS IS IMPERITIVE!!! I began my vinyl buying in the late 60's and continued until the early 80's when it became hard to get any vinyl. I never played a disc without cleaning it first. I have always used DiscWasher and now I can still play an album I bought in 1971 and there are no scratches, hisses, pops, etc. I got totally anal about it to the point where I would wash my hands before handling a disc. That carries on over to this day with CD's and DVD's. I catch myself teaching my grandkids this technique with varying results. Cleanliness...
  11. That is a cool concept and I have no doubt that it will expand over time. But don't try Atomic Rooster or Esther Ofarim. It is not familiar with them just yet. Better keep the vinyl and cd's for now!
  12. This is similar to what I am looking for in an upgrade. Currently I have SS-3's set up in the side position in a 5.0 setup. Had been thinking of LB and RB with bookshelves and the SB-3 would work fine. Question is: Can they be mounted on back wall? Are there mounts available to accomodate this? My SS-3's are about 7' above ground on wall. Thanks.
  13. Lee. Yessiree bob. Alvin Lee. Got my ticket stub around here somewhere. Yep, cost $5.00 to get in. IABD opened. The female singer was heavenly. Linda LaFlamme I believe. The band was ethereal. Hadn't ever really heard music like that. I was very impressed with them. And then Ten Years After came on and put on a show. Barton Coliseum.
  14. Buckster, It was difficult to get this music for a long time due to legal problems but now it is easy to get. There are three albums but this one has White Bird which is a classic. These guys were backing Ten Years After one night in Little Rock back in the day!
  15. I had already listened-watched the new Pulse DVD before hearing of Syd's passing. As told on another thread. It's appropriate I guess to lament the passing while enjoying the work of a great band and in such a wonderful form. This DVD presents the music as it was meant to be enjoyed. The 5.1 is excellent. The special effects were superb and to address an issue brought up earlier, The center channel seemed just fine. I believe this might set the bar for what we come to expect from all music video's.
  16. Just got my copy but I can't see it until this evening. Will check out the center channel. Hope it is not a defect.
  17. I will echo the STRDE998 recommendation. I have had mine for about 2 months now. For the price point it is an excellent buy and I like it for the power and a phono input. I have owned Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Technics and Onkyo receivers over the years and this one sounds the best. It sounds very good on music CD's, DVD's, Vinyl and TV. IMHO!
  18. Welcome to the forum. I recently bought a Sony STR-DE998 receiver and have been more than happy with it. I researched a few weeks before settling on this model. Also, and this is what sold me, it has phono inputs. I was Shocked at how many otherwise fine receivers did not have the phono input. But this one does. Just looked at Circuit City and it was $439. You probably could find it online for less than that. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Surround-Sound-Receiver-STR-DE998-/sem/rpsm/oid/120295/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
  19. Thanks Jay. I am going to reverse the setup I now have and just tinker with the placement. I thought it sounded fantastic the way I had it. But I will take a listen and go from there. I think in the end it matters not but that it satisfies my listening.
  20. Gentlemen, I will show my ignorance and admit that I mounted my SS-3's in the rear. Seems they should be at my sides or the side of my listening position. Now this begs the question, what type of speakers should be in the rear for a 7.1 system? Would bookshelves or surrounds either one work or would one be better than the other. Thanks for setting me straight. I'm glad I didn't afix all my wires yet! More moving to do. Thanks for the continuing answers you folks provide. It is enlightening.
  21. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee Hawwwwwwwwwwwwww. Got my SS-3's mounted as rear surrounds, got my cheap-a%% Kenwoods as R/L surrounds, the KG 5.2's front, got the settings all copasetic, put on Zep Achilles Last Stand and Oh MY!!!!! What a blast. Felt like the old days walking out of a J Geils concert. The ringing will go away in an hour or two won't it! Can't imagine what it will be like when I get my Sub-12. Wow. Now if I can just find the cat my wife will be happy-------------
  22. I just purchased a pair of ss-3 surrounds from e-bay, got them yesterday, installed them today and they sound wonderful. The seller had a good description and pictures and they came as advertised. Brand new. But there is a risk. No warranty. But I knew that going in. I watched the seller for a few weeks and read the feedback from others who purchased from them. This seller had no pictures and would not say that they even work. Said it two or three times even. If it were me I would move on.
