  1. Wow, that's really impressive! I'm going to try to brace my KLF-20s and CF-3s and I definitely to apply some material to the horns. I've never done anything with wood, and I'm pretty intimidated - it seems like a daunting task for a complete novice. What I don't understand it how you would be able to use a solid piece to brace from wall to wall without removing a panel, you wouldn't be able to angle it flush with the panels. Perhaps anyone in Las Vegas could lend me a hand?
  2. I've been looking for a pair of RB-5s, and I LOVE Klipsch in mahogany, but that price is just too high for me considering the condition. I love the look of the original reference drivers but Klipsch made some poor decisions with them. I'm not sure if it was for cost savings, or just an oversight because they're fine for shipping via pallet - but between the heavy magnets and the plastic frames they very often get damaged during shipping. I'm not exactly sure why the cones are so susceptable to damage, but that is also VERY common to see. In my opinion, original reference speakers are always worth more locally. Both my RF-5s and RC-3s have been damaged during shipping, but my RS-3s held up.
  3. 120l is a pretty good sized box. You're going to want to tune as low as possible if you're going to be using the sub for movies. I'm sure that woofer has pretty limited excursion so you'd probably be able to use a fairly small port without lots of chuffing. I would think the KSW-15 was tuned at 30hz or slightly below, but you should be able to achieve 20hz tuning. What country do you live in?
  4. Hey DrWilken, welcome to the forum! You can get much, much better drivers for the money. If you have any woodworking experience you can build your own enclosure pretty easily. To get a ported subwoofer with deep extension and lots of output, it needs to be big. Sealed subwoofers can be smaller and still be able to provide quite a bit of output with a good amplifier. Let me know if you have questions or want help designing something!
  5. Honestly there was nothing about those that didn't scream fake to me. They looked very off between the port, terminals, woofer, small horn, and that Klipsch sticker on the back was a huge red flag.
  6. Large, low tuned ported is nearly impossible to beat. I completely understand size constraints, and sealed subs can be pretty decent with enough cone area and sufficient power.
  7. I'm going to be bracing my CF-3s and hopefully my KLF-20s. I'd really appreciate info on what you guys did. Should I add more foam? I was thinking about lowerening the tuning on both of them, but I recently brought my subwoofer home and that will likely make the mid-bass worse. I'm not sure how you're supposed to wedge the bracing in there, and how you're supposed to affix them to the walls.
  8. And here's a pic of them next to my KLF-20s for all you Epic and KLF fans. I feel very lucky to have found these both locally for such a reasonable price.
  9. Mine seem to be a bit strange. I bought these about 3 months ago for a decent price. They have the correct version 1 serial, but they have 5 1/8" ports and the heavy guage clear jacket wiring inside. The drivers are noticably stiffer than the woofers on my KLF-20s. Is this unusual to have the shorter ports with the clear wiring on a 1994 production?
  10. That driver is actually pretty impressive looking. It looks like the Xmax should be pretty high, did you do any free-air testing to get a rough estimate of what it can do? It looks like 20mm shouldn't be a problem for it. I'm surprised the FS is that high - the surround looks pretty stiff and I would have expected it in the mid to low 20s. Nice project there, that bracing in the center is pretty serious. I like to model subwoofers for fun, would you mind PMing me the T/S parameters?
  11. Hey Dean, I might have some interest in these. I bought a pair of used KLF-20s and I do like them. Are the crossover points and roll-off the same as the stock crossovers?
  12. Well my room is small. I got my KLF-20s for $400, and they're not that easy to find and not that cheap. I would be willing to use a lot of things for just surrounds. My RS-3s would actually probably be fine - wall mounting is pretty much the biggest priority.
  13. Wow, GREAT price. I was looking for another RC-3 since mine broke a few years ago during shipping (how rare). Awesome of you to help out a forum member like that.
  14. Tigerwood, I actually have a pair of HD595s I don't want anymore, and I live in Las Vegas too..... They're in good shape and I wouldn't want much for them. Maybe I could do a partial trade if you have any speakers you'd let go?
  15. Yeah I do have amps. I bought 3x Audiosource Amp Threes and I have a Behringer EP2500 (one channel used for sub). Are you suggesting I use a PAIR of KLF-20s as a center? That would be hilarious but my room is tiny, as seen in the picture on the first post.
  16. Hey guys, I bought some KLF-20s and CF-3s and I'm looking to set up my first surround. I'm looking for a KV-4 or possibly a KLF-C7, but I'm not sure what matching surrounds were sold with the KLF and Epic series. Do any of you guys know?
  17. I recently bought a pair of KLF-20s and CF-3s and I'm looking to try my first 5.1. I think I would prefer a KV-4 as I love the drivers and horn of the CF-3s. I'm located in Las Vegas and I have a RC-3 in good condition I could give as a partial trade. I'd also be interested in matching surrounds but I'm not exactly sure what was produced for use with the KLF and Epic series, so information would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
  18. I connected my Behringer EP2500 up to my Klf-20s and (new) CF-3s. The sound was great and the amp obviously had a lot more power than the speakers could handle. There should be no difference in sound between any well-designed solid state amplifier, so I don't really buy in to that part. I can't imagine any application where a clean 450wpc wouldn't be enough for speakers. I understand the love for Crown, QSC, Crest, but there's no way I could justify paying that much of a premium. I moved the EP2500 back to sub duty and have my Audiosource Amp Threes driving my mains now. There's an EP2500 up for sale here in Vegas for pretty cheap, $180 I think.
  19. I paid 100 for it. Guy said the remote will input one command and freeze, or something. I havent even tried it yet.
  20. Hey guys, I bought a pair KLF-20s off of craigslist a few weeks ago for a system in my smallish bedroom. Last night I was looking for a receiver to power them. I found a Yamaha DPS-A1 for what seemed like a ridiculous price and jumped on it since I don't need or care about video inputs. This thing is pretty damn big and heavy, the build quality is apparent the first time you pick it up. It is so heavy I'm not putting it on the top shelf of my tv stand, it's on the middle shelf and It BARELY fits. I can't wait to listen and I have high hopes. When I purchased my rf-5s I bought a yamaha rx-v659 and the amplifier section is overbuilt and way exceeds rated specs. Anyway, just wanted to share with you guys and if anyone has any experience with one or things I should know I would appreciate input.
  21. Just tried it in free-air. Cheater plug is just the adapter without the ground, yeah? That would be okay to put into a battery backup with surge protection, correct?
