  1. In case someone hasn't already said it...welcome to the forum usnret. too bad the rest of us aren't there with you listening to that fine selection that you've acquired.
  2. excellent point thebes! it used to drive me crazy that my wife would be happy listening to music from a clock radio. I retired from the coast guard back in 2003--during every move, i always packed my own system and wouldn't leave it to the movers. my wife didn't understand why i wanted to keep every box and every piece of foam...until it was time to move...then, and only then, i was a genius.
  3. have any one you discovered anyone famous, criminal, or an unusual profession? Better yet, anyone a distant relative of PWK and entitled to a family discount on heritage stuff.
  4. very cool. i've been considering hiring someone to trace my roots. my grandfather was born on the island of Faial and my Grandmother on the island of Flores (both part of the Azore Islands). I'm the first generation that didn't speak Portuguese around the house, so I'm guessing I'd have a hard time tracing my roots myself. Most of the relatives have passed already--I do have an aunt that just turned 100 and another that is 86; but, they aren't much help with detailed info. I did manage to find out the name of the ship that they came to America on. Have no idea how much someone would charge to research birth records, etc...from a foriegn country. It is a very interesting topic though.
  5. Thanks Daddy--You're reading my mind, that is exactly what I was thinking. When I first saw a Belle and a La Scalla, I was drawn to the Belle (and that fascination has never left). Someday, I hope to own a set.
  6. Several Klipsch models have had second and third generations built. Why did they stop making Belles? I always thought they were beautiful speakers, and sadly, they are darned hard to find used.
  7. To me, nothing upsetting. Sorry OldBuckster, your boys made the list. http://music.msn.com/music/photos/enough-already/?GT1=28102&photoidx=2
  8. that's GREAT news Carl. I'm very happy.
  9. REO Speedwagon's Live - You Get What You Play For was, and still is, one of my favorite live albums growing up.... was going to buy the CD until I read all the comments about how they chopped out a lot of Gary's guitar solos to fit it on one disc - and he was supposedly executive producer or something like that - I'd like to think he didn't realize they were chopping it up until after he had signed It is still a very rockin album. I've seen them three times and they are a good "live" band--definitely took a huge slide when Gary left. It's a shame that Kevin Cronin somehow got control of the band. I've said it before...REO is a classic example of what happens when you take a band away from the guitarist and give it to the singer. Freddie Mercury had an ego as big as any star's; however, from the very early days he was encouraging all members of Queen to contribute--those royalties are often a bone of contention. Kevin Cronin recently said something like he was happy playing county fairs and indian casinos. Sadly, neither Richrath nor REO were as good after he left.
  10. how about Marvel's old running mate...Gary Richrath. I think Gary is one of the most underrated rock guitarists.
  11. gosh, i feel so silly--how could i forget. i love steely dan. Any NoCal members out there Steely Dan is performing in Berkeley at the end of July.
  12. Doc--my congratulations to you. best wishes for a long and successful career.
  13. Definately COMMUNICATION--both orally and the written word. It is amazing how much of a head start one can get when able to communicate effectively.
  14. actually yes. how about stevie's brother Jimmy Vaughn of the fabulous thunderbirds.
  15. of course any list is subjective. in my opinion both steve howe and brian may should be ranked much higher, and eddie van halen at number 5 is way too high--jimi wouldn't be number one if i was making a list either. but, i do like seeing "lists" because when i don't recognize a name, it is fun to learn about this person.
  16. it is my pleasure to lift your daughter and your family up in prayer. If i've learned one thing in life, it is that God is good. i look forward to seeing that good report that you'll be posting in a few days. Steve
  17. nice to have you back. i hope you have a complete and speedy recovery.
  18. no. it honestly all started out as an innocent question. i was just curious.
  19. whoever wrote the theme song for The Flinstones, and all the other stuff they wrote.
  20. i read somewhere that some company (to prove a point) put on their website Click on the Link to receive a free computer virus--4% of the website's viewers clicked on the link. of course there was no virus, probably just a reminder to people to pay closer attention.
  21. i would bet that you're right. if it is anything like other forums that i've visited, people that think that they are way smarter than they actually are that cut & paste someone elses work and present it as their argument. never been in this private area though; but, i suspect that i haven't missed much. it is way much more fun teasing OldBuckster about his favorite group, the Aging Old Farts...errrrr, i mean the Rolling Stones.
